Tips 1.) and 2.) are really the key to it all. Low quality backlinks, combined with links to websites not existing within your topic space, will surely slow down your best SEO efforts.

All very good points here. A lot of people talk about backlinks this and backlinks that, but not enough people talk about the quality of backlinks. The comparison of glasses of water to milkshakes was a funny yet accurate analogy when it comes to addressing the importance of quality over quantity.

The linking strategy is one that I often see on many sites, and I think it's actually very effective. I could be reading an article on one thing, and then the writer happens to include a link to another post relating to the current subject matter, and almost always I end up reading the other content as well.

I agree with the building of content because it is still the top priority in SEO methods. Nothing can be good contents because it is the building block of the site since a content will create a web page. Anyway, I know that you have to tag the new content with keywords and that’s where the complexity comes in. For the basic SEO worker, I guess any keyword that is directly related to the content will be fine to use.
