What are the ideal long-term goals for a blogger?

I am a blogger but I have not thought it over on what I do I really want after 5 to 10 years. Will I take this too far and make it a major career in my life if I see I am good enough? It never crossed my mind on what's my goal in writing online every day. What is it there for me at the end of the line? Is it for money to measure ones' success after a long period of time?

What are the ideal long-term goals for a blogger?

The long term goals for a blogger will obviously depend on you. What may be a good long term goal for me may not be ideal for you. The important thing to do is to ask some questions and your answers to those questions will help you decide what are some good long term goals for your blog. Are you prepared to work hard and not make money for a while? If so then it might be a good idea to get into blogging but if you want money instantly then it may be better to go down a different route.

You said something very important here. It's a particular issue about priorities, because as you said... What works for you may not work for other people. But, I sincerely think that even if there is no agreement on the different points of view, there may be some kind of inspiration in the divergences.

I believe we as different individuals might have different long term goals that we might one to achieve but I think the goal that is constant for everyone is making good money. Especially since more than 90%of the people are out to make money with blogging so making money is one,having an authority blog and having good users or readers would be next.

I don’t like that line asking if you are prepared not to earn money for a while. Freelancers are dependent on their regular earnings and if blogging will be the main line then it would be doubly hard to cope when there is no earning to speak of. I understand that you have to invest time and effort in blogging that is why I don’t have my own blog yet because I am afraid that I will have no time for that because I prefer to earn from what I am currently doing.

This is something that totally depends on you and nobody else... Also, it depends on your passion for writing and the subject that you have decided to write.

It's like a circle of options that are eternally spinning in your mind reminding you of what you need to do to remain relevant in the game.

Good point here. We all have to cut our own path through this jungle. I think we need to find joy in what we are doing and writing too in order to stay inspired and not to let the doldrums get the best of us in our work. Staying "relevant" is tough, and it is so competitive out there, but I think that there is a constant place for us when we are producing consistently good and frequently good content.

I usually say that the most difficult thing is not to enter the market, but to stay in it in a relevant way (as I said before). But to stay alive in a useful way and not just existing just by existing waiting for things to happen like magic.

Exactly my thoughts! Plus even if you set a goal for where you want to be a blogger in ten years, I can guarantee you that there's a very big possibility that you will change your mind in the upcoming years. Focus on setting smaller goals first and have one big one for let's say this year or the next one.

I don't find it very useful to have these kinds of very long goals because this field is a very dynamic process, so... The things usually change very easily and if you don't know how to deal with it, you'll get frustrated really fast.

I think my future as a blogger is about changing and adapting to new ideas and evolving from there. Who knows where blogging is going to be 10 years from now? I just hope that my website is still going to be around in 10 years. As a long time webmaster I know things can and will change overnight and sometimes it not to our liking. So there is no way to know if my website will be around for 10 years and if it is around there is no way to know if it will be in its current forum.

I think revenue and the reach should be the goals for any blogger. By reach I mean more people get into the conversion. And by revenue I mean it's reasonable that way. I have seen bloggers chasing page views and the traffic. It does not help much. Real juice is in the revenue and the reach. The more people you reach and they convert into the revenue. That seems to be the option for many among us for things to work. I have learned that bloggers focusing on revenue are more successful. And everything falls into the place for them these days.

I will now change my priorities thanks to this reply. I have really been focusing a lot on traffic because I thought that can help my blog in earning. I will now focus on the reach and revenue. I will make this a short term goal now and measure my progress before I make it a long term goal.

You can get 1 million people as traffic. But if those people don't click on ad or buy something from affiliate links. Do you want such traffic? Some people get paid from even the 25 traffic views. And if one person can click ad and the buy something out of it. That's the conversion. So the long term goal is the reach and revenue. That's how I am seeing things. Reaching right set of people.

If you have a passion for writing and can devote much time to devote to your blog why don't you become a full time blogger. You can actually earn a good amount from blogging. Moreover if the traffic to your blog is high and visitors leave positive comments then this is a sign that you may succeed as a full time blogger. Money is not the only thing which will define how successful you are. The praises and respect that you get from others are equally important.

I love blogging, yeah we all like the aspect of adding Adsense and earning. For me, I do it as a passion as the information I know and give is useful to others. I have been doing this, many years indeed, but that was other blogs. I am very passionate about my new one as it is something I write and work on daily and close to my heart. Why think about five to ten years from now? That's way too far away and setting a goal that much into the future doesn't seem too realistic for me. Sure, you can have some rough expectations but you should focus on right now and the next few months. Set firm goals where you want to take your blog to, how you will reach that, different ways and more. I think that there's no such thing as ideal goals because it will always depend on each individual.

I think it is healthy to have longterm goals, but to try to see where your content, heart, approach, expertise, purpose, etc. will be five years from now might be a bit problematic. I think that that kind of thinking is very passionate, and so it says something about what you want to be doing with your work, but, for me, anyway, when it comes to blogging, I am pretty happy meeting my weekly and monthly goals. There's some degree of experimentation involved, as well, and you need to give yourself room, mentally, to have a few setbacks and learning curves. Just stay current and passionate and consistent with what you do with your content on a regular basis and other goals, ideas, concepts, and challenges will unfold as you along your journey as a writer.

For me the ideal long term for as a blogger is to earn passive income without having to work longer hours, being able to travel to different places while earning, have a time and financial freedom, and touch the lives of other people through my blogs.

I'm a beginner in this field and I'm still on the process of learning how to write quality content. Writing was not my passion when I was still schooling that is why I really struggle in creating content. And English is not also my native language. But I could see some improvements ever since I committed myself in reading, writing, watching webinars of popular authors, bloggers, and other online writers. Hopefully a time will come that my efforts will bring its fruition.

I'm also in the process of developing my website which is related to writing and earning through digital products. I'm writing also about my journey on becoming a digital entrepreneur.

Well it is less so about what your long term goals are as a "blogger," and more about what your long term goals are as a person. It is going to vary depending on what motivated you to become a blogger in the first place.

For some people, the long term goals of blogging are to simply establish a decent balance of passive and active income. They want to gather a community of loyal followers which are also willing to help share their site, and by doing so keep up a steady flow of traffic. With a decent, consistent traffic and a good amount of content on their site, their income is able to grow without actually having to put in greater amounts of work.

Some people want to turn their blog into a full-blown business. Maybe they started off with writing their own blog posts and articles, but they may diversify and start hiring other writes to add more content to their website. Perhaps they get to the point where they start making and selling their own merchandise and essentially establish a small franchise.

And some just want to write for the sake of other's enjoyment, and that's it. It all depends on you.

It depends on what you want whether you are blogging for money? or just you want to share your thoughts in your mind? Whatever is your reason that will affect your goals. For most of the bloggers, their goal usually to make money from their blogs and for their blog to be renowned internationally.

Yeah, the goal of most bloggers we have at the moment is to make money out of it. However, it has been disheartening when I see some of these bloggers spam other sites to get contents. In as much as that is good for them, I don't think it is nice to do so when you look at that from a larger scale.

Having a long term on any endeavor is a good habit. I still have a full time job in the office so I am on the internet for a short period of time only. However, I have plans of having my own blog that will replace my office job for my livelihood. It’s nice to imagine that I would be earning consistently with my blog. But I know it’s not that easy to achieve that. The hard task is how to gain regular readers.

I have a hobby blog and I don't really have much long term goals for it other than growing an audience constantly. If I treated it like a business, though, I would imagine it wouldn't be that different from any business. My long term plan would be to grow it to the extent where I couldn't handle it anymore on my own and would have to hire employees and in that state I think it would be a good milestone since you would probably be earning more than just for one person or for personal expenses alone and instead it would be more like a publication or like I said, any other business.

Setting Ideal long-term goals for a blogger include setting money goals and working towards that to ensure it's actualised on time. Goals dictate your movement daily online and motivates you to input actions into all efforts. Readiness for success is part of the goals you are setting for yourself as a blogger. You never can tell where that goal is going to take you in the long run.

The major goal I'm planning to go into blogging is to have visitors on a daily basis. When I saw visitors, I'm referring to having those stable visitors that always check to see how the blog is doing and whether I've written new contents on it as well. Having those loyal fans is better to me than the money involved.

In my opinion, it would depend on why you started blogging in the first place. Some people blog to share their thoughts and life journey with the world. For this kind of blogging the more people that read and respond to your blog the more you achieve your goals.

Some people start blogs to promote products. For this kind of blog to succeed people need to come to your blog and click on your product links. The goal would be to convert your traffic to clicks. For this, you need to provide content that prompts your readers to click your links.

I guess the ideal blogging goals would be getting a specified amount of relevant traffic. The more your blog grows the more people you will want to attract.

The secret to achieving your goals is your content. So amazing content should be first on your list.

Blogging goals differ from person to person. Some might start blogging for fun, others might be thinking to earn extra income. However, when I started blogging my primary goal was to earn passive income that would help me earn my living. Currently, I am thinking to earn $1500 from my blog every month, which is the amount I need in my home country to pay my bills and buy supplies.

Well it depends on the content of your blog what it is all about. Does your blog contain helpful information? Does your blog contain basic tutorials? Because your long term goal will depend on the content of your blog, earning in the future is already a given fact or you should expect that their are websites that pays you for displaying their ads on your blog. I think if earning money is not your ideal goal then it is to spread your knowledge and help your viewers depending on your blog subject or content, to become famous is also one of the long term ideal goal. Many people will discover your personality because of your work or words, that is priceless but it will give you a great impact on social media.
