When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt.

Recently I was on some of my local facebook groups posting about how I've been in SEO, Web Design and Marketing since 2003 and I'm willing to help out anyone who is having a problem with their website or marketing campaigns.  I helped around 20 people until I posted in one group and I had 2 people jump down my throat about how I was spamming and that I should set up an ad within Facebook to better target my audience.  I mean, I was getting pretty targeted when I was posting in these groups because they were all local and I'm sure a good amount of them either had websites or have thought about putting one up as some point or another.  But this guy didn't see the link and basically just went on a witch hunt.  He got a few people on his side before I noticed what was going on and when I eventually got back to the thread, they had their torches and pitch forks waiting lmao When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt.

So when I got back to the post, I noticed that it was 2 guys talking back and forth and they were also tagging others within the post to help get people on their side.  I didn't want to do that because I thought it was petty and childish, so I simply responded in a friendly manner to each person that commented and put out every fire I could, except for the 2 main witch hunters in the group.  Just so you know, within private groups you have to get your post approved by the administrator, which mine was.  These two guys were just on a witch hunt because they didn't know what they were talking about.  They have probably been scammed by a design or marketing company in the past and just decided to label us all the same, witches lol.

After about 10 or 15 public conversations with the people that kept popping up, 7 of them enlisted my help as a consultant (for free) and the rest just faded away.  The only 2 that were so headstrong about this eventually left the post but went right into messenger and started harassing me that way lol.  So now I'm pissed, but I keep it professional at all times until they start insulting me for absolutely no reason.  Now I've dealt with this type of thing in the past, so I know how to handle it, and I'm not too proud of it because I eventually stooped to their level lmao When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt.  I tagged everyone that I had helped from my posts and they came in to defend me.  They weren't my friends, they were random people that I actually helped.  I then posted all of the screenshots I took from when these 2 guys started to harass me through messenger and posted them to the comments section of my post, which made them go into hiding.

After about an hour of this I had the admins of the group contact me and apologize for the behavior of the group members that were harassing me and I said not to worry about it because it wasn't their fault.  Everyone has a position on topics, whether it be right or wrong, they feel a certain way about something and usually will voice that when online because they are safe behind their computer screens.  I told them that I was just going to leave the group because I didn't see the point in defending myself every single time I wanted to post something to help others in my free time, but the admins quickly told me that they banned those 2 guys right after they noticed what was going on and that I am free to post whatever I want lol When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt.

In the end, the witch hunters ended up burning themselves at the stake and now are banned from a Facebook group that they enjoyed.  They decided to call me a witch and go on a hunt but it backfired because they did no research what so ever on what I was doing for the members of the group, for free.

In Conclusion:
This experience could have gone south really quick if I stooped to their level from the beginning, but it didn't.  I played nice until I had the cards I wanted and then I got them to fold.  They attacked me by tagging their friends, family and random people in order to gang up on my for this witch hunt and I turned 7 of them into potential clients since I gave them a bunch of advise on what to do with their websites in order to make the design better as well as increase their search engine rankings for more traffic and sales When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt.     Keep it professional and people will see that you're not there to harm them.  The good ones will contact you and figure out what you're doing on their own all while you're showing the nay sayers what you've actually done for members of the group.    In the end I actually turned their people against them and helped the tagged people out with problems they were having.  I didn't block the witch hunters from my messenger, and I'm waiting to see if they send me anything else lol When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt.

Torches and pitch forks waiting?? WOW! What a visual! I can see them coming after you!!! When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt. When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt. When helping others with SEO and Design turns into a witch hunt.

Great true story and glad you shared your experience. People can easily get carried away, can't they? The mob mentality is alive and well, especially in social media groups and communities. But if they ever aim at you, know where you stand, take your stand, stay calm and keep it professional!!

Sometimes you will be wondering what is happening in social media because users have the penchant for joining the bandwagon. There are times that I would see shared posts of my friends in Facebook about a bogus business or about a crime committed by a person that was posted complete with a photo. I would comment on those posts for them to be discerning because if they are sharing fake news then they might suffer the consequences. It is sad that some internet users seem to have no brain and act like robots in joining causes that they do not clearly know.

Yes. I do like sharing positive quotes or a happy story or some of those fun posts where they say “Do you remember when?” I very seldom share a news story. It has to be something I'm passionate about and also something that I have judged is from a reliable source. I have already had a bad experience sharing “points of view”. They may not be my points of view. But so what! Why can't I share it on MY TIMELINE? It is my timeline. Oh my! Some people just go all willy-nilly on you. There's no need for that because the solution is so simple. Unfriend me or ignore me.

I think the problem with A/B testing is that you get to do a lot of analysis. And often that much analysis is not required. And it's not easy to find out when to stop. So that being said, you can see that design and the SEO should be treated differently unless it is landing page. If it's landing page then only testing with PPC makes sense. Otherwise testing with non buyers won't get results there. That's why I avoid social media scrutiny of my stuff.

Damn, Razzy, I am glad that you came out of that chaos alive, haha ;) Anyway, don't worry about people like that. You have many the so called ''internet warriors'' that sit behind the computer and wait to find people to fight with. They just love it. Sadly, they saw you and began sharpening their knives. I am really glad that the other people actually came to help you out and that administrator saw who was right and who was wrong. That's why I dislike Facebook so much... there's so much witch hunting there where you get ganked up by people for absolutely no reason. I think that you handled the whole situation extremely well though!

Wow, that is a real witch hunt indeed! You were very wise but don't lower to their level. Just talking smart, with good arguments and attitudes, and you can win everything that stomps in your way. Keep up the good work ;)

Razzy,
My experience with you so far, and I have only been on here for a few weeks, is that you are a stand-up person who offers helpful content and great suggestions for all of us. Your posts are always useful, informative, and well-written. Anyway, that being said, your post here reminds all of us the cooler heads prevail in these situations, and that if you stick to professionalism and proper etiquette, you will most likely come out on the better end of things when dealing with nefarious people.

Recently, I was asked to do SEO for a blog. I checked the blog and found that there were lot of work to do. I had to optimize the site as well as the contents, I also had to do off page optimization and promote on social media. The problem started when I sgtated my fees. The blog owner wanted me to work but he was unwilling to pay what I was asking. When I turned down, he did not leave me, he continued to contact me and asked to do the work, It was very frustrating.

This is a caveat when using social media networks for your marketing campaign. I know it is all right to post once or twice a day with your promotional item but it depends on the kind of people in your network. If most of your friends don’t know you well then you might be tagged as spamming with that 2 posts you made in one day. On the other hand, if you are popular in your network then I don’t see any problem. You can even seek the support of the people in your network and they might even help you.
