Top SEO mistakes for e-commerce

The e-commerce segment has been one of the best developments of today. Anyway, it is notable that the competitions between the stores are large and this number tends to grow in the coming years. And so, one of the hallmarks that a store can do to stay ahead of the competition is to optimize your store to position it in the first pages of search engines using SEO features.

But is your store well suited to appear on the first few pages of Google? With this in mind, we have separated some of the major SEO mistakes into e-commerce in order to get to know them and avoid them. Follow us!

Lack of Descriptions

In addition to being totally irrelevant to alleged clients, the lack of descriptions in e-commerce products puts an end to the chances of the page being well positioned in search engines. In this way, it is recommended to carry out an effective analysis of the product to be sold and to create a suitable description including the keywords to be ranked.

Another important point besides SEO is the fact that a good description directly assists customers in making their purchases.

Duplicate content

Duplicate contents are errors as serious as failing to describe product specifications. This is because it is very common to see e-commerce managers copy the description of the products on websites of manufacturers or even the competition.

In this way, Google and other search engines tend to penalize an e-commerce by understanding that the content has been copied so as to be categorized as less relevant to other sites. So always create original content for all your products.

Non-optimized images

Images are excellent visuals that bring the public closer to the e-commerce, giving details of the product to the client, but failing to optimize the images with SEO, could deplete the potential of this resource.

Thus, it is recommended to include keywords in the file name such as: celular-samsung.jpg. In addition, it is essential to include the Alt metatag with the words that you want to rank in search engines.

Lack of customer feedback

In addition to being essential to the credibility of e-commerce, comments are of great importance to improve the positioning of a virtual store.

The proof of this lies in the fact that pages that have customer reviews are more likely to be at the top of the search engines because of the credibility and authenticity that the interaction of the customers can create before the engines of search engines.

Therefore, maintaining comment fields on each product page becomes essential to improve the positioning of pages in search engines.

Unfriendly URLs

URLs in general are features underestimated by e-commerce managers who are unaware of their real importance to the SEO of their sites.

As proof of this, we only need to look at two examples of URLs

In the first example we have a confusing and difficult to understand URL. Already in the second example you can know the content only by reading your URL containing keywords of the product. This ease of reading URLs is as important to readers as to search engines that will interpret page content in their algorithms.

So, fail to create friendly URLs is another big mistake for good SEO practices.

Do not categorize products

In addition to getting a better visual organization for store items, creating categories brings improvements in e-commerce SEO. This is because a good categorization structure of products by types, brands and other aspects can directly influence the hierarchy of URLs (cited above).

Therefore, failing to categorize the products of an e-commerce is one of the big SEO mistakes that directly affect the positioning of the pages in search engines.

One of the major mistakes that people do is they neglect images. They either don't use image, or even if they are using images, they don't use keywords in the name and description. Another problem that I have noticed is duplicate issue. People are so impatient that they don't write the description themselves, rather copy words from manufacturer or wholeseller. having duplicate content will not only chase away the potential customers but also have to go through search engines punishment.

I also agree with your opinion!

I think small mistakes can simply destroy an SEO strategy in virtual stores. Myself, I have made many of these mistakes in the past, but with a little experience and patience it is possible to gain some prominence in Google.

There was a discussion about the duplicate content that was brought about by the description of products. When you are into affiliate marketing and you post about a particular product, how could you write a different description? Normally you will just copy and paste the product description from the original post. If that will constitute a duplicate content then you have a problem.

Thanks for the feedback Robbie626.

Yes! Images are very important to any SEO strategy and when we talk about e-commerce, I think optimizing the images becomes even more important.

People are constantly searching for product details in Google Images, so being in the top positions for user searches can help you boost your sales.

Good costumer support should always be one of the main things every company should aim for. Not just good support, fast as well. There is nothing more annoying than having to wait for ages to get a reply if you are contacting them via e-mail.

As for the duplicate content, I guess google knows what they are doing. After all, pretty much everyone uses google, so making it more user friendly is a good thing for their users. Removing duplicates is one of those things. It is actually pretty simple to understand why.

These mistakes are extremely common. Especially the non-optimized images and unfriendly URLs. If you're not getting any customer feedback, that's probably the reason why. Do you have an opinion or have you written an article about setting up shop on Facebook?

Paying Full for Only Half the Goods - SEO
Mistake: Do your web guys know anything about commerce? Many companies today buy a website that may look good but not really get anything out of it. The most common scenario is a company buying a great looking website and then not realizing that after having it for 60 days, they only had 2 views. Well, even if it would have been 100 view, it still wouldn't be worth developing if that is all you are aiming for. You are probably just ranked on Google for your business name, with no SEO on your website.

Solution: Before hiring a web developer, you want to make sure that this web developer also knows SEO. Incorporating the right keywords for your business on your website is important. Everything on your website has the be optimized not only for visitors, but also for the search engines. This way, you save hundreds of dollars on SEO onsite optimization, as it is really not difficult for the web developer to incorporate onsite SEO while developing the website.

I have read in one discussion that a duplicate content can harm your website regarding SEO because Google will tag it as spamming or fooling around. And I have to agree because from what I know, the contents of the website should be original and unique which means there should be no duplicates. I still cannot come to terms why some websites, particularly blogs, upload a duplicate content to their web pages.
