7 Steps to get started with SEO on your own website

This is something that a lot of people have asked me, where do you start?

So here are some things you can do to get started with SEO on your website:

1.First of all install an SEO plugin –Yoast or All In One SEO are great
2.Set yourself up on Google Webmaster tools and submit your site map to Google
3.Start adding content to your website that is optimized for SEO – here are 10 tips for on page SEO
4.Every time you publish content share it on social media
5.Start networking with people in your niche, join groups on social networks, join Quora and start getting involved.
6.Start commenting on niche related blogs, make note these need to be quality comments or they will not be approved.
7.Learn other off page SEO techniques or hire a freelancer here to do that work for you.

Ok I have left it at 7 steps and yes the 7th step is to learn more than I know… maybe some of the freelancers here can take up from step 7 LOL

Good points there. For those who have no idea where to start that can prove to be a helpful guide. It is important to place importance on the content, but you cannot stop there. Connecting and networking is very important to improve your site's visibility and help you get more exposure too. On page and off page SEO methods need to be used so as to complement each other for a good SEO strategy.

Yes very much so. It is not one thing only that will get you there but a number of different methods that need to be implemented to ensure success!

Creating quality content is for me without a doubt the biggest and most important job of all but if none of the other things are implemented, such as on page SEO, then I won't get very far at all

Also, set up a sitemap, submit it to Google Search Console, will help a lot with the indexing once you start publishing new content.
A robots.txt file is also required and is actually encouraged by Search Console. Don't forget to do a Google fetch one in a while when you want your website to be crawled by a Google bot but don't ignore the 404 errors that will stack up in Search Console once you start modifying things from a URL structure point of view.

OMG Cristian you are getting too technical now for me...

I thought the rule was never modify a URL?

Sharing your newly uploaded content in social media is now getting to be a standard. I can see the posts of my blogger friends that they upload new blogs once a week because that’s what I see in their promotional posts. And if that friend is close to me, my tendency is to click on the link and scan the blog. If it is interesting then I read it in full and I also post a comment. That clearly shows that social media is not a potent venue for getting additional traffic to your website.

Has Quora really helped you? I have been on that site almost since the beginning and have used it but not really. I've never used it to promote my monetized blogs and affiliate marketing websites. How could I use Quora to help with that? (O.o)
