    Does having family and friends on social media effect business?

    As you all know social media such as twitter instagram and facebook have really taken over the web over recent years and now social media is one of the most mainstream marketing outlets all over the world, But when the thought of family and friends come to mind is this a good thing or a bad thing. can allowing your business and your social life to share the same pages be good ? Maybe you should separate one for strictly professional purposes or maybe having all relations on the same page benefits you more . What do you think ?

    I think it is best to keep them seperate. On Facebook you can create seperate pages and if you would like to give a boost to your pages, you can invite your friends to like your business page/s. However as a general rule I would prefer to keep them seperate from one another because some friends may not be interested in your business, and so posts may bother them especially if you post often. Besides some friends may only be acquaintances. On the other hand you do not want to share any personal stuff with clients who follow you purely for your services.

    Short answer: I like to keep family and friends away from my "business". I don't like them in my businesses. I am very private in that regard.

    Yes, I can certainly agree with that depending on the type of freelancing work you do. I'm a blogger so a lot of my personal stuff is my business Does having family and friends on social media effect business?

    But I do have separate business and personal profiles on social media!

    I think having a personal profile separate from your business profile is a good idea. I use all social media for business except for Facebook where I have my personal profile and then I have 3 pages too, one for each of my websites. I post some business things to my personal profile and I have gotten quite a bit of business through friends which is cool. However I keep my business pages for business and don't post anything too personal on them.

    That is a really good idea. It's also best to create additional business pages for your business for security reasons. You don't want a stalker stalking you and you can try and prevent this by having separate pages. Some bloggers are like celebrities, and have amassed a large following.

    You can be quite certain that they try to up their security from the quacks out there. Often at times, if you only use personal pages with business it can easily backfire. No matter what you do make sure that you are completely safe. Some people would even suggest that if you need to create additional pages than you're trying to hide something and therefore are not transparent, but security is always best and those types of people would need to understand this.

    My answer is affirmative. You can easily convince your friends and family to buy the service and products you are selling, however, it is really hard to convince a stranger. More friends on social media means more sales. When I promoted my ebook on facebook, more than 90 percent of the buyers were my friends and family members.

    Your family and friends can definitely help you in your business. Having them in your social media circle can boost your marketing when they share your posts about your business. And when they click like on your post, it can be seen by their friends. I actually have friends who are into dropshipping and Facebook is their primary marketing tool.

    I do not think that having your family and friends on your social networks is a bad way to go as long as they are willing to help you achieve your cause which is to spread the message of what you do to as many as the people scattered on the social media networks. So, having them will benefit you positively in the business.

    I have a separate Facebook page for my business. My relatives and friends have definitely helped me to grow my business and I will always be thankful to them. They help me every now and then especially to get more people to like my page. However, the good thing is that they never interfere in my business.

    @Pixie06 You are certainly lucky, maybe your family are the open free type unlike what we have here in Nigeria. Most families here abhors activities on social media, thereby making it virtually impossible for you to freely carryout ones business activities online.

    There was a friend of mine whom I happen to be close with their family, on one fateful day I got a call from the father telling me to warn my friend never to post the kind of stuff he posted online. You can imagine how that is going to make one feel.

    From day one I had told my self that pleasure, family don't mix with business but I had two accounts.One for my personal use another for business.Everything in life has its principle.If one needs to succeed then the principle must be followed to the latter.So for business, it applies big time and the principle of separating business from family must be strictly followed to succeed.

    I completely agree with you on this, it's never wise to mix family pleasure with business activities. This is certainly because most times, it's either that your family take advantage of your business dealings by demanding unnecessary funds from you because they monitor your activities or they hold you back as a result of having issues with what you do online.

    This reminds me of my college days when I started venturing in business by selling cheap cologne to my classmates. My father got to know it when I was complaining to my mother that one classmate failed to pay. The scheme was installment payment of 4 weeks. When my father heard that, he reprimanded me and said that it is not a good idea to be selling items in school. That really devastated me because it was my first try at business and it was discouraged by my father.

    Yes I think so that having families online in some of one's social media accounts tends to hamper such person business activities. This is normally worse when your parents or families are the strict and conservative type. They would practically have issues with most of the things you post or share in the media, so therefore I see it as very important to have a separate account for business excluding families and one for personal life.
