What reasons could Facebook have for shutting down an account?

Some of my friends have complained that their accounts were shut down over seemingly flimsy reasons. Just wondering if there is a set of guidelines that determines which accounts get shut down and if possible what reasons are being used for account termination on Facebook.

I don't have any idea regarding this. But may be that user making spamming other profiles or being report abusing by others.

If you list a false name, you can have your account terminated. That's just one of the reasons, there are many others.

I think if you use a false name you can only get your account deleted or suspended when someone reported you. Just recently there was a troll that was posting bad messages about my niece. What we did was to report the account and on the next day the account was deleted. We still have the private message that the account sent but the profile photo was not there anymore and the account is missing already.

Thank you for the comprehensive list. Does Facebook strictly enforce the rule about posting promotional links, such as if you are simply referring to a site you like, rather than actually profiting from it?

Adding people you don't really know or who are just random, such as not even on the list of your friends. This can get your account muted, such as you won't be able to talk via PM or add people to friends list. Though I am not sure if it would result in a full ban. Maybe if you continued to add people you didn't know, even after warning.

Sometimes some people accounts might be hacked without their knowledge and that is the bad thing on social media. I think before Facebook shuts down an account, they always give a warning and in most cases, state the reason for shutting down such accounts on their space.

Based on the list above, it looks like doing things excessively in Facebook can get your account suspended or deleted. I have some friends who experienced having their accounts suspended for a week, 2 weeks and another was 1 month. From what I gathered, their accounts were reported with unknown reasons. To be honest, I had reported one account that is excessively spamming that it caused suspension of 1 week.
