Some time back, when i owned a local service related business, i purchased newspaper advertising for the business. And, it worked out very well. Though i didn't have a website for the company. I'm sure i would have a site now, if i were to open the business again and even include the link in the newspaper ad.

The only advertisements of websites that I see in newspapers are the hotel booking sites. I don’t know why but maybe Trivago is earning so much that it can afford to spend so much money in advertisement. It is also the only website with advertisement on tv that I see almost every time I turn on the tv. Trivago is for the booking of a hotel accommodation and maybe it is now the biggest in the industry.

But when you take a look at what's happened to newspaper advertising over that period, it's a wonder they all haven't.

It might just be better to get a listing in your local phone directory, both print and online, rather than newspaper advertising.

I have not done newspaper advertisement. I think probably because of the fact that I have fallen in love with the digital way of doing things and believe that many people have gone on the internet already.

I guess newspaper advertising is still effective since it has a print version and has an extended reach to its readers with the online version. However, the cost should be taken in consideration vis-à-vis the kind of your business. For local business like services, newspaper advertisement is not appropriate. And for small businesses, social media advertising is better because it is cost effective and has a higher effectiveness rate.
