I never guest post. I always join the site fully by registering. That way I am able to access more features on their site that guests may not have and I also add my link into my signature if possible and also will add my link to my account profile so that others can see it. I also will promote in a promotion section if they have one. If not then my link will just remain in my signature and profile.

If you own a similar forum, you can start by establishing yourself as a niche expert. And, you do this best by posting relevant comments and discussions on the forum where you are posting at. Just be the go to person that everyone on the forum can rely on when problems come up. And, over time, you will gain many new members for your own forum as people migrate from the forum where you are posting (guest posting) to your own forum.

Although it is easier said than done, I agree that establishing yourself as an authority on a subject matter is one of the best ways of building an awareness to your brand. However, I know that some forums don’t allow the promotion of your own business unless it is a forum for such niche. I sometimes wonder how to promote yourself in a forum in a sly manner that the admin will not be offended and the readers will understand that it is brand awareness that you are doing.

Find discussions which cover a similar product as the one you sell and make comments about it. You should always speak positively of your own products and services in public, without blatantly spamming or drawing attention to your signature line.
