Forums vs Blogs: Which is better?

I've run a forum before and it's so much harder work than maintaining a blog where all you do is put up a post a day. The forum has so many members to manage, where as the blog only has one.

For me, a blog is easier to manage. But, a forum is far more exciting to be part of.

I agree, forums are so much more work but so much more rewarding when you get an awesome community. Blogs to me are too boring, the content doesn't change often enough.

Another great thing about forums is that once going, users create the content for you. You can go on vacation and come back to 100 new pages of content. Not so with a blog. You'll come back with exactly the number of pages you left with.

I like forums. I think that they are more engaging and that you meet more people this way. I would much rather have a forum than a blog.

Being on a forum as a member can be lots of fun. And, before i started my forum, I thought it would all be fun times as a forum owner. But, owning a forum and making it work (promoting, keeping members coming back) has been non-stop labor. Very little fun about it. Maybe I just need more staff for the forum to do some of those jobs. My staff has dwindled to nothing. It's hard running a forum alone.

Beverly then you should look into getting some staff. Yes I agree that it could be hard to do it by yourself. You should not put that all on yourself. See about hiring someone to do a few hours of work each day or so many hours a week.

I like either. I think that when you own them it is a different story. I would much rather post on forums than comment on blogs but I have done both before.

I think that for me a forum would be the best bet. I just tend to like forums better.

I like the freedom of expression that I have with my own blog. But my forum allows me to have a central place to speak one on one with my readers about a common subject that we all love.

You can maintain and update 10 blogs easily. But usually you can only own one or two forums before it becomes too much work and expense.

If I will be the one to choose, it will be the blog for me. I have full control of the blog and virtually I can do what I want. With a forum, you are creating a community so interaction is the name of the game. That's where the moderator comes in because the posts and comments can get out of hand. But in fairness to the forum, it can be more dynamic quicker than the blog. That means you can earn more and faster with a forum when it becomes a beehive.
