Is increased automation resulting in huge job loss?

Well, recently i saw a news regarding self automated cars that can selfdrive.I was wondering of the day when such cars would be widely used throughout the World.The amount of job loss that can happen due to such inventions can be immense. Every new advancement in technology results in some amount of job loss and most of the times this job loss happens in the case of the unorganized sector.The livelihood of thousands of workers and common people does get threatened due to this.What are your views in this regard?

I agree with you on this as there is now increasing unemployment in my country all because the work that humans used to do before are now being taken up by robots. There is need for the government to build industries to augment this wide gap that is going to come up in the future.

The trend of jobs diminishing because machines are doing the jobs human were doing is numerous. Machines are faster than humans and faster too. Self-driven vars will help but will replace many people.

Exactly. It's just so sad that it is inevitable that Roberts can do jobs faster than humans. But, there are always a lot of jobs that require humans more than robots. So, we must not lose hope.

Automation causes some people to lose jobs because things that used to be done manually are now automated processes. But also, automation creates new jobs for other people. That's just the way it is.

Honestly, if you want my opinion, then I think automation is a great crime against humanity. People might say it's better and makes things easier, but let's be honest, anything done by a human is superior. Moreover, now food is being created on special farms and factories, if you ask me, then the food from the actual farms is healthier and a lot more tasty. I think this automation should stop. We need to reverse some things because people have stopped being humans and resemble robots nowadays. That's what the modern technology brought us. Some is good, some is bad, but massive automation is extremely dangerous and bad.

Well OK I'll donate my opinion too. Automation is not the crime against humanity. It's the CEOs and upper management of the companies and corporations who don't give a crap about the people being terminated from employment and displaced by automation. You can't tell me that they can't exercise some human compassion and use their humanity to think of ways to help these employees, many who have give the company literally the best years of their lives.

Listen! If Ronald McDonald can build a house for parents to live in when their sick child is receiving medical treatment, at no cost or expense to those parents; then executive managers in these various businesses can think of something to help their former employees. You could be charitable and compassionate if you want to be. If you have a heart and you're not greedy for money and you're only looking out for yourself and your family, you can help a fellow human being.

But no! These executives cut off the employees and keep their ridiculous salary, and let the laid-off people go apply for a government assistance program and/or collect unemployment compensation. Businesses have a social responsibility and should care about the community that made them a successful business. But all the Top Dogs care about is the profit. That's why corporations like General Motors close their factories and practically shut down an entire town or city, without batting an eye. You think words from the President is going to move them? NO! Likely how they see it, the POTUS is only in office 4 to 8 years. They were around before he came and they'll still be around when he;s gone. They're not BASING their business decisions on his BARKING AT THEM! He can bark but he can't, don't, or won't bite. No worries.

Is increased automation resulting in huge job loss: It was absolutely true, specially in our country it was really a big issue now the increase of population of unemployed individual. It is because of the technology that boom in this time in which instead man power or labor like before now it was been processed already by machine and only need a 1 operator is simetimes enough.

Yes. This is the advantage of robots, what can't be done by one person can be done by one robot. Some jobs that need a lot of manpower can be done by one robot. I know some countries that are slowly replacing manpower with robots. For third world countries like mine, I think it won't be in a near future.

Maybe in the first world countries, automation can completely replace some jobs but in third world countries, man power is still in demand more than automation. I think that once third world countries catch up and finally use fully automation services that it's going to be trouble for the rest of the world in terms of employment. By that time, most of the jobs will be done by machines and it's scary.

Well, I am not against any kind of progress and advancement of technology in different spheres of life. Technology does make our life much more convenient and easy. I guess there is a huge difference of perception in this regard between the developed and the developing countries. Also there is a difference of opinion between the upper and middle class on one side and the lower middle class and the poor section of societies around the World on the other side. However, if Governments are able to give an alternative employment to the people who lose their jobs, their won't be so much outcry in this regard.

Increased automation will see many people lose their jobs. And it's not just in the auto industry.

Most industries will be affected by advancing tech because automation and using robots to do work humans previously did will be cheaper for most businesses. According to an article I read, more than 45% of people in America have jobs that are at risk of automation within 20 years. We need to brace ourselves for this change when it comes because it most certainly will within two decades.

The problem is also the fact that automation can fail, and mass automation can cause chaos in the society. People are struggling to survive at many points and edges of the world, a hungry person wouldn't be afraid to attack someone. I think this process should start slowly. The fast development of technology is ruining our societies currently.

When people lose jobs, those who lost their jobs will probably try their hand at crime. What we should expect in the near future is something very much like the French revolution. The chaos and loss of life will be worse this time though.

I think automation is a future. And business are going to save money with it. But some jobs are harder to replace. And some jobs are easy to replace. So it all comes down to people in learning if they should do what can be automated. I'd say one should be cautious about the things. I'd say it's not that easy and people have to learn skills that can stand the test of the time. Most of the time that works out for some time like say learning new skills and doing new jobs.

Obviously, this was expected. Progress of technology will keep reducing jobs, except those than can't be replaced with a robot. A robot for example cannot write as good as a human. Personally, I think we should leave big cities as soon as possible, and start managing our own farms and etc. That's how we'll be able to survive and sustain ourselves.

I think slowly that’s becoming the case where certain industries are requiring less employees because of automation. Other industries like the tech industry are only growing as the need for automated services increase. Long story short it really comes down to the industry you’re in I think.

It can be true at one point. It can eliminate personnel in their job because of this technology. However, it can also create new job opportunities on different dimensions. Exactly! It's very possible that automation can lead to to unemployment because when you get to use robots which can do a lot more jobs very effectively and efficiently with less time, it's bound to relive more people of their jobs.

A robot can do a job which 10 people can do. Do the math and see how it goes.

I would agree on some of the fellows here that due to automation, it will certainly contribute loss of employment. Since, it doesn't need a lot of human intervention. However, I am thinking this might lead to another employment idea. Like there will be more of innovator, inventors and developer rising in this era. Probably, people will convert the idea of invention. Selling their ideas on any manufacturer or company that helps contribute a potential product. Humans are excellent thinker and therefore humans can always find way to survive.

To say there's no job loss as a result of increase in automation, to me, will be living in denial.

Self driven cars are but few examples of what automation could do/had done. Things as simple as traffic lights have taken many traffic wardens out of work; not to mention phones that came, and rendered post offices nearly inconsequential.

More automation is leading to more job loss; but those whose job will be lot are those who have refused to innovate and flow with the change.

I think this one is a no brainer. Since the industrial revolution, more and more people keep finding themselves out of the job. The invention of new machines means jobs that many people could have done are done by less people and even faster. It's easy to see how easy it is for an employer to save money by buying a machine instead of hiring more people.

Let the day not only come when everything of man will be handled by machines and all man can do is nothing.

It looks like that but I don't actually think that this is the case. I think that automation has replaced jobs that no one wants to do. For example people have a problem getting farm workers. Now you can get robots to work on the farm and save your money and time spent looking for for workers.

Well, I think that the impact of automation is more visible in developing countries where even in the case of Farming there is a huge number of farm laborers who would be at a risk of losing their means of livelihood if any such technological advancement happens in the place where they work. I think in all such labor-intensive sectors it is very necessary for the Governments and organizations to provide the alternative means of earnings, before going through any kind of technological upgrades and advancement.

I agree but I believe there would be some opportunities that will open at the same time as this kind of job removed. Just like what happened on a documentary I have watched. Before, we are using two-reel system for an old movie projector. The reels should be delivered by a man riding a bike from one movie theater to another. After the digital movies was released, this kind of job is not needed so they those men lost their job. At the same time, the opportunity for video editors and the like opened up.

I remember when I was a new employee of a company that has a main frame computer. The employees in other departments were wary that the computer will take away their jobs. They even made a sign on a cardboard that says IBM which means It’s Better Manual. That is the expression of their resistance to the computer. As the time goes by, our technology was also improving so fast that our inventors are so hungry on discovering new technologies. It indeed stole the work of people and causes a big job loss. Although employers could benefit a lot from it and they could even save a lot of manpower by using those kind of machines who can replace the work of a human being and time will come that artificial intelligent will conquer our workplace. Personally I don’t think so. On the contrary, automation greatly improves the overall quality of a product or a
service. Of course, this highly depends on whether the automation process is planned carefully applied correctly. Though it will gradually replace the human effort, the benefits provided by automation still outweigh the negative effect it will
incur. Tasks that are repetitive and require significant human effort normally are great candidate for being automated.
