Will writing on paper go obsolete or scrapped in future?

With the way technological advancement is going on in the world today, will it be possible to get to a phase where writing on any kind of paper would be deem obsolete and scrapped from existence?

I have watched so many Sci-fi movies and seen lots of techs enables writing on glass. Would this later be a trend in the future?

Absolutely. I don't think it's a future that's too far off either. This will save a lot of trees, but result in a lot more power usage. As demand for paper decreases the price will go up I would think.

In my opinion writing on paper would become obsolete in 20-30 years from now. With all the devices nowadays, sometimes I'm thinking that writing on paper should have been obsolete a year or two ago. That would mean fewer trees cut and it would lessen pollution.

I think it will be sooner than that. You've noticed how paper books are gradually being phased out? How soon before it is a requirement for all kids to use laptops or tablets in school? A few decades after that there'll be fewer people writing on paper.

I'm supposing that keyboards themselves will become obsolete eventually. You just dictate anything you want recorded and the computer does everything else.

Yes that's true. People rely on technologies now a days. Books can be read through e-books or kindle or just download it in pdf format. Some just use their tablet to write some important things on it.

I honestly don't think it is, more and more people are becoming fountain pen enthusiasts. Everyday, new members join bullet journal and planner groups. And each and every member of said groups, write and create using pen, ink, and paper. As the Fountain Pen and Ink industry thrives, so does writing on paper.

If you are asking if it is possible, then I say yes, as is with all things. However, we must admit that papers are quite practical even with how far technology has come in recent years. Papers offer quite a few advantages. They are easy to carry. They are easy to save information on. There is also a feel you get when you read on paper that can hardly be replaced. My believe is, there will always be a place for papers in future. The question is, what kind of paper will it be by then?

I think writing on paper will still be around even on high end years. It is convenient and affordable compared to any gadgets that will replace paper. Besides,, paper is used in our early formal education. This will help a person to develop his ability to write and draw. Our hands needs to be move and use. It seems incomplete when you only know how to press and click when you can't even hold a pen properly.

I think that writing on paper would still undergo even though we would experience some advancement in the technology as time goes by because many people are already used to it. It is very hard to let go those things that you already used to it for a longer period of time. I cannot imagine myself writing on a glass in the near future since I am not convenient in doing that way. I would still prefer the traditional writing if ever we discovered some new way of writing some articles.

I don't think usage of water will be obsolete but it will lessen. Technology will never stop in advancing, evem paper could be replaced. But I don't think that people will really stop using paper because we can use glass instead of it. There will be some people who will still use paper for their notes and writings.

Although the use of pen and paper has reduced considerably when it comes to office and business work, i dont think that the use of paper will completely stop in the near future. Paper will always be used for all sorts of educational purposes and also in case of some government work. I dont htink that the children will be able to learn writing and reading without there pencils and notebooks. However in most of the offices of both private and public organizations there is a considerable reduction in the amount of paper work which has resulted in the saving of time and resources.Maybe someday in the future we will have an alternative for the use of paper for even learning and educational purposes.

That's a really good point - as fantastic as technology is, there are always instances where things happen such as power outages and in those circumstances we're always going to need to revert back to good old fashioned pen and paper. There's still definitely a place for them in society!

It is going to help pretty difficult for us to say that writing on paper is going to help scrapped. I mean things just work that way unless we are trying to focus it on a particular geographical area at the moment. Writing on paper always means that there is so much to come from they way that a whole lot of things happen in a place.

I hope it doesn't go obsolete! I think that handwritten stuff still has its place in the world. I always much prefer a handwritten letter or card, for instance, than an email message.

In saying that, from a work context it's probably more environmentally friendly to work on computers than on paper.

I believe that the most significant market share of paper users are the schools and students. But here in our country, some institutions do things electronically like submission of assignments (via email), posting of reminders (via social media), exams are online, and even enrollment is paperless.

The usage of paper in the future might be lessened but I don't think they would be replaced completely. We might also innovate by making some changes with our papers like water proof papers or the like. Since I love drawing, I find it weird to not have paper in the future. Even though we can make drawings in adobe and such, there's nothing that beat a drawing done with bare hands on a paper. It is more artistic and personal. Other than that, bugs and errors do still exist which writing in paper makes it more secure to write something important.

In worst case scenarios both the writing in paper and digital have limited shelf life. There was a reason why people used to crave on rocks because they tend to hold the information longer. That's one thing why I think people in past were understanding of how the things could go down and how it can get scrapped in such case. That's what I have realized in that case when reading about papyrus for the information storage.

I highly doubt it.
Myself I find it easier to write some short information on a paper rather than pulling out my Smartphone (that's regarding notes). Although I can concur that you can lose that paper piece. In schools, university and etc I think writing on paper may indeed go extinct.

I am not so sure. Paper has been such an integral material in society for hundreds and hundreds of years now, ever since it was discovered and first used in the ancient times. I agree that there is an opportunity for other media to take over, with the rapid rise in technology. However, I don't think it will come to a point that paper will be obsolete - or at least, not in the near future.

The reasons for cutting back on the use of paper was to help improve the environment. As paper disposal was a problem in terms of how many trees it took to create large amounts of paper. I think where we are now is at a good place, but paper will never completely die. Also remember printers, scripts and artwork all use paper. Another reason paper will never go away in full.

More and more schools these days are using eBooks but of course there is the option to use physical books as well. I think there is a possibility that paper will be obsolete in the future as more and more people opt to using digital means rather than paper. But as for me, I prefer paper. It's easier for me to jot down and having a physical copy is better. Plus, the smell of books is just divine.

I agree. The painting and the art is always going to be there. It just that we may move to digital for the documents and the transaction. And also there are going to be some documents that may move to digital if they can be 100% moved. But anything that is educational will surely remain the paper related.

Most definitely. I advise my kids that if it's an important document, especially if used for school or work, make a paper copy. You never know when the technology will go KAPUT! If somebody says they can't provide you with something because they can't access the computer system, show them the paper document.

I used to work for a bank and we always kept paper reports for when the computers went bonkers! We know when a customer comes to handle a business transaction like withdraw their own money to pay urgent bills, they don't want to hear any excuse about the computer system not working. They want their money!!

Absolutely it will be obsolete in the future. People now a days mostly rely on their tablet, laptop or even smartphone. Even in class teachers don't write in the board but instead they have projector where they will just show it to the students. Most of the people preferred it that way because it is a lot more convenient to them.

As for me, I would still write in the notebook. There is a different of feeling when you are writing on a notebook and and just simply watch. I just appreciate my hand writings and me happiness when ever I write using a pen.

Writing on paper may eventually go away but keeping paper documents will never fully go away. It's really the only way to track everything and make sure that it maintains its existence. Getting rid of written paper products runs the risk of history and improtant information disappearing so it will never fully happen.

No, written documents are more powerful and legit. And when it comes to personal messages it is more heartfelt to read a written letter. I think more people use computerized letter because it is the most proper look. But for me never under estimate the handwritten documents or letter.

My guess is that at some point in the future, pen and paper will have a revival. We all rely on technology, but the world seems to be veering towards a point where there are wars, rumours of wars and sooner or later, technology will be targetted. It is great while we have it, but to rely on it completely seems a foolhardy way to go. Either the technnology will fail or handwriting will become a craft that people do for a hobby. Sadly, I suspect the former scenario is likely.

I actually have raised this question to the young parents in one gathering. Do you think that it is still important for children to learn cursive writing? Most of the parents agreed that writing in printed form is not really that important today because the technology is changing the traditional way of writing with the use of pen and paper. It is more important for the child to learn the proper use of keyboard typing so he would be quick and accurate. That is what we need now and not the pen and paper anymore.

Cursive writing is important if not for signing contracts, but for signing at the store when you are using your credit card. Those electronic scanners as for your signature after making a purchase. If your script sucks, the computer might not recognize your buy as a legal purchase.

For me it is still worth it to use the writing on a piece of paper method because I am comfortable with it, even though I am experiencing some advancement right now in technology I would still used the writing on paper because I feel motivated when I am writing on a paper on my articles. My prediction is based on if and when writing on paper becomes obsolete then it follows that handwriting as a form of communication would also cease to be a norm for humans.
