Do you have any preference with who you outsource jobs from?

Most times people always have a preference with who they like to deal with especially when it's something that have to do with business, contract and money. Some people have this perspective that sex have a huge impact on determining who people looking forward to dealing with. There are some people who are more comfortable dealing with a female while some are more at peace dealing with males but there are some who don't care about sex but on who would actually deliver 100% whether male or female.

What's your take on this?

I personally never cared if it's male or female, nor i would care. When i need to outsource something, i want to get job delivered on time and high quality. I pay for it, so i need to get good value for my money. Only once i was looking for female freelancer, when i was doing some voice over for some promotional video where we needed to promote some fashion and beauty products for a client, so in that case female was doing like sort of review, where male couldn't review really female products

isn't it. in any other case i don't judge it by sex, race or color of skin....

This is actually a good way to go about handling outsourcing services. When you are divided in sex or race before choosing, you are most likely going to biased and which would not help you make the best decision that would positively impact your business.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that the work should be handed over to one who is more qualified for the job no matter the sex. If a man can deliver better, let a man do the job and vice versa with women.

We had an experience with that voice over when we were making a short video about a real life drama. You are right that hiring a freelancer does not really matter with the gender as long as the work can be done. But in cases that the work is specifically gender related like the voice over that you mentioned then you have no choice but to find a female with an appropriate voice to your requirement.

At first as a Freelancer I didnt have any set preferences when it comes to clients. As long as the price is right and the customer/client is honest and easy to deal with. But nowadays I've learned my lesson and am now very particular to the location and nationality of my client. Sometimes even if the deal sounds good, I would turn it down because of said reason.

This is so true. In the freelancing world we all learn through mistakes and from time to time we will have to let go of some people due to their poor quality of work. It is always important to work with the most trustworthy of individuals.

I understand exactly what you mean by being very careful with dealing with some certain people at some specific regions for the obvious reasons of 99% of people who base in such location to be scammers. I have had one particular experience in dealing with some Russians and it never went well. I'm not saying that all Russian people are bad but I don't easily accept dealing with them.

ooh thanks a lot for the information. I always have my doubts about the area and now I will tread with even greater caution when getting or outsourcing anything from them. However, I think that it is generally important to check the reputation of anyone when hiring them regardless of their location.

I think once you've had a bad experience it can be hard to want to deal with people from the same region, even knowing that just because there's one bad apple from there that not everyone is. For me it's just once I'm burned, it makes me think about things differently and makes me want to protect myself from those things happening in the future.

I don't think that there can be much of a choice in deciding whether your client is a male or a female. I think a client who will act according to the prior agreement and pay me on time for the work done will always be desirable. you can have good and bad experiences with your clients. a client who is very professional in his or her approach will always be prefered by all.

Yeah, it is all about the professional way of working. I don't have issue with any gender as long as we are working at ensuring that we strengthen our working relationship. This is the basics that we should be concerned about and not if someone is a male or a female.

Exactly! Professionalism matters a lot in any business - online and offline likewise. This is a quality that most people don't possess and it ruins so many business arrangements if care isn't taken. So, in any situation whereby you discover that the person whom you are dealing with works with a professional code, it's highly recommended that you stick with him or her.

Honestly I usually just look for the best person for the job based on reviews and whatever other information I can find online. Things like gender and location don’t play into it for me - if it’s an online project I don’t mind where a person is from provided they can deliver what I need from them.

It is all about who I am having a better relationship with work wise at that moment. I always ensure that I give out work to those that can deliver as promised and not those that will make me doing major corrections before I get to submit the work to the clients.

As a freelancer, I don't mind whether my client is a girl or boy. What matters to me is the salary rate and his/her attitude. A professional and friendly client will go a long way. What I really want is to have a long-term work relationship with a client. And I think both male and female clients can be great partners in a Freelancing world.

Attitude is a huge thing about who I want to deal with. Sometimes it’s not worth dealing with someone’s arrogance even if they are great at what they do, for instance. I want someone who communicates well and has a positive attitude - those two things are must haves for me.

I tend not to discriminate between the sexes. I think that I take any client that comes so long as the client is reasonable and he/she is willing to pay for the work I do for them. I always judge the client by how they talk to me or their tone in an email. They are some clients who are rude from the onset. These I ignore. This kind of client want too much and is often not willing to pay much. A polite client is best even if you decide not to work together in future.

I don't have any specific preference. I just make sure that the person who is supposed to do the work is following the instructions. And I try to tell them about what end result I am expecting and what should be done. I also hand over them the specific instructions and the way it can be done. And the rate and the time for which the project should run.

For me the more stronger the currency I'm getting paid with the better. That's why I prefer Western and European clients so that I can I can take advantage of the exchange rate.

That's definitely one of the benefits of working on an international scale - often the exchange rates can be really favorable, making those international clients even more lucrative. When you factor in those kinds of things you can make some pretty good money. I'm American but living abroad right now, and it's amazing how far US dollars can go in certain countries.

I prefer international clients over local ones. Maybe it's just that I think the local jobs don't offer enough money for the job they want. Plus with the Philippine market going down, it's much better to have foreign currency as the exchange rate is high.

I live here in the Philippines and I agree with you. I have already worked in a corporate world with Filipinos. So, working online with international clients is something different and I want to try. They are more straightforward and have different management.

I don't want to generalize but in my work in a Filipino company, most of the workers don't do enough work until it piles on and they only rush on the deadline itself. Sometimes their work comes over to me who works diligently everyday and it pisses me off. I had tried having a foreign client once and not only is the pay better, but it felt more professional to me than a corporate setting that I'm used to.

At times it is not a matter of choice but availability of the job and the payment. There are some scrupulous businessmen and women who can put you down. Sex also is a factor. I may not feel comfortable working for the opposite sex. Surely that is a factor.

I think gender should never be an issue. I would prefer someone base on their sole abilities and their personalities. Regardless of the gender I want somebody who can get along with me. I honestly would prefer a woman worker with me because I’ll be more comfortable. But we all have different personalities so I’ll choose who I can work with.

I never viewed gender as an issue and I don't have a specific preference when looking for clients or people whom I will be working with. As long as the person whom I am talking to is not that hard to deal with. Also, I have to look at the payment and if the job suits me.

If this is a question about which one does it better, males or females? I think it depends. I learned in this forum that concerning influencer marketing, women tend to be more effective compared to their male counterparts. But for other jobs, I don't think gender matters at all and knowledge plus experience is what counts.

There are some clients who prefer to hire workers from a certain region only. For instance on upwork, you'll see some jobs specifically target freelancers from the Philippines, others want only North American-based freelancers - the list is long.

I believe past experience with freelancers from certain regions of the world is what determines someone's willingness to offer more work to either the same freelancers or freelancers from the same region.

If I was to hire a freelancer, my budget is what would help me decide who'll I'll hire but of course I'll have to take into account the level of expertise in their field.

I highly consider preference depending on the type of job. But now as long as he/she can prove that he/she can do it in terms of expectations, then it's fine.

On my part, whether one is a male or female does not count. All that matters to me is timely payment. But, have actually said nothing but the truth. There are some who prefer outsourcing jobs to the opposite sex. I find such people to have some other agendas apart from work. For example, some might have had a bad experience, some just feel comfortable to work with the opposite sex, while some are generally naughty.

If the issue is gender, I don’t think it is material to me. I was once assigned to interview applicant for the vacancy in our department. Sometimes the number of applicants reach 50 that I had to do it in one day. Whenever I would write down the rating, what I deem important are the answers to my questions and never did it occur to me that a male is better than a female or vice versa. In getting an outsource for an online work I guess that rule also applies to me.
