How to beat other freelancers and get the sale for yourself

If you're working online as a freelancer you'll likely come across plenty of competition from all over the world. This usually isn't a great thing for you because if you're from the USA or any other country that can't compete with Indian or Phillipino pricing, you're going to sink pretty quick and look for a different job because we simply can't compete with them on a pricing scale.

Now, if you're in a crowded industry like SEO and can't compete with low ball pricing because it simply is too much of your time for a few dollars, you should know there are a few ways to entice people to pay you a little more for your services compared to your low ball competitors. You can most definitely use this information here on seocheckout.com to boost your own sales, but it might take a bit of time to start gaining any ground on the sellers who have 1,000+ orders because they already have a devoted following of members who buy from them on a regular basis. That shouldn't scare you off though, competition is everywhere you go, not just here on Seocheckout the biggest SEO marketplace in the world!

Below I'll be covering a few things to work on if you want to be successful in a crowded market and can't lower your price to fight with the low ballers, and those things are:

Be active online
If you're active online people will start to gravitate towards you. I've written almost 1,000 discussions here on Seocheckout and I'm not getting requests through my inbox asking for custom quotes for XX,XXX words per month. If I wasn't active I would likely lose those sales and not be able to build my profile to greater heights. I may not have as many sales as the bigger fish here on seocheckout, but my orders are always more than $25 a piece How to beat other freelancers and get the sale for yourself

If you're active online, people will find you, and they will start to click any link you put in front of them. I've posted plenty of times on 3rd party websites and linked back to my services, then waited patiently until I get those lovely little "How much for" messages in my inbox How to beat other freelancers and get the sale for yourself You don't just have to be active here on seocheckout, you have to be active all over the internet in order to compete in a saturated market.

Be quick to respond to potential customers
If you're letting a message sit in your inbox or email you're just giving them time to look for other service providers who can do something similar for a much lower price point. People are impatient and that's why you need to be quick to respond. Set up email notifications so you get an alert whenever someone comments on your service or sends you a message.

Another thing you need to remember is to look through your comments on each service you post. If you're like me, you get hundreds of notifications a week and your "Alerts" tab is flooded with comments on discussions, so by going through your services manually to see who's commenting, you won't miss out on anything. I actually had missed a comment for about a week but luckily that client was patient and waited for me to respond. I replied to their comment as well as shot them a PM to make sure they saw me, and they did, after a few days of talking they purchased over $400 worth of content and have purchased a couple of more times since then. If I hadn't gone through my services to check my comments manually I would have missed out on all that profit.

Undercut your competition in the beginning
I can't express this enough, you need to price your services low in the beginning to give people a taste of what you can do. If you're going to be 2 or 3 times the price of the average service in your industry, you need to build up a decent amount of positive reviews before people start to gravitate towards you. I usually set a requirement for myself that I won't increase my pricing to its normal point until I have 50+ successful orders. My writing service just hit 40 successful orders and I'm still charging more than 99% of the people who are selling custom content lol. If I were to write for $3 to $15 per 500 words I would be breaking my fingers each day. I charge $25 per 500 words and tend to over-deliver on everything, which is why people always come back How to beat other freelancers and get the sale for yourself

After a bit of time, you can boost your pricing and people will continue to come back for more as long as you're good at what you do. You can't jump your pricing drastically, you have to do it little by little as to not give anyone shell shock. So if you're selling at $15 per order, you won't want to jump to $150 per order because that's a big leap. Instead, jump up to $12 or even $30 and keep it there for a week or two, then start to climb up and see how many sales you can get while keeping your profits stable.

Brand yourself online
If you're not branding yourself, you're falling behind the people who already are, and that's never a good thing. Think of the seller here named BarryinSiam, he's branded his own name and has gotten thousands of orders because he's one of the main people to go to for SEO here on seocheckout.com (I've actually purchased from him in the past when I needed to outsource some work lol). His services would actually cost 3 or 4 times what he's actually charging if he lived in the US or a country similar to the value the US dollar has (it's too damn high if you were wondering lol).

Barry uses his own name on his profile and not some Pen name that can be forgotten. He uses his own picture in his services, not some random model, which gives him a little more authority over time. People will land on his service and think "This guy is the real deal and it's not a stock photo like the majority of the services I come across" and that builds trust. He puts himself out there and people like that because it's like they're working with an actual person instead of someone that can hide behind a pen name when something goes wrong with their order. Barry, if you're reading this you should shoot me a PM and we can partner up no something lol How to beat other freelancers and get the sale for yourself

In conclusion
If you do it right, you can compete in a crowded market no matter what your pricing is. You have to attack this strategically and not wing it like a lot of sellers actually do. The more time you put into responding to customers, potential customers, building your brand, and perfecting your craft will pull in thousands of dollars a month in profit and you can likely live very well if you do it long enough How to beat other freelancers and get the sale for yourself

I am doing everything the OP has mentioned here. For example:
I am active online, I am based in Asia and most of my clients are from the US. There is 13 hours time difference, I wake up in the middle of night just to connect with people in the USm where it is day time.
I also respond quickly. I not only respond to orders but also to the queries.
I always deliever more than what I am asked so that the one time customer becomes recurring customer

Having a 100% seller rating isn't the easiest thing to do. You need to do everything I mentioned in the discussion, and you are, so I'm not worried about you climbing the rankings to level 3 and possibly getting accepted into the X level club of service providers when you get a few more orders under your belt How to beat other freelancers and get the sale for yourself

Many people out there want to be successful but they don't want to adjust to the scenario, like waking up in the middle of the night to answer an email, and they think they can mold people to do what they want. The biggest thing that kills a business or service is when the provider thinks they can do what they want when they want, and the customers will just keep flooding in lol. You need to work those long hours, wake up at night, take the extra step, overdeliver a service, and do everything you can to keep your customers happy as well as boost your sales along the way How to beat other freelancers and get the sale for yourself

Thank you very much for checking my profile. The only problem I have here is I am not getting as many orders as I should have. Based on my own analysis one of the reasons why I do not have too many sales is I have a few things to sell. I only have two gigs here. I need to add a few more gigs to attract more buyers. Your tips are really helpful

Great tips - as a freelancer myself living in a country with a high cost of living, it can be hard competing with others in such a global market. In saying that though, these suggestions show that despite those challenges, there are ways to work around them and still be successful.

Your last tip is interesting. It brought a thought to my mind about a service that I was invited to try which is provided by brandyourself.com. It's sort of like posting a public resume and they help you with online reputation management. You get emails whenever something “negative” about you appears in Google search results.

Your post also reminded me that I needed to update the info appearing on the profile. A lot of my work activities have changed. Thanks!

I think some of the time quality and the communication is all you need to do. That's how the freelancers are going to improve with each others competition. I have noticed that there are many other ways to get leads. but the client satisfaction is what makes the difference at the end. You have to work harder for the same. If you can do that then you are going to get recurring work.

Definitely, your online presence and previous work put so much weight into your reliability to do the job you're hired for, and all these things - always being active online, having your own branding, and quickly responding to your potential customers add up to help you in your freelancing career.

Thanks for the beautiful tips on here. I follow these all steps every time. I always stay active to give response to online buyers as early as possible. For that reason some time I get huge and huge work. I like to stay active online. Recently I have been started to brand and promote myself online for more work by making a personal freelancing website, by making a social media marketing related website and also my making an affiliate website by my name. All of the works I have been doing and I have a team support about domain and hosting and word press registration.

Thanks

When you are not available and active online, I seriously wonder how possible it's going to be for you beat off your competitors and be ahead in grabbing clients with ease. This is one important factor in beating your competitors in business. Now, after you must have had the clients that you sought after, the next important factor is keeping the clients loyal to your business products and services, and the best way to achieve that is through good customer relationships with your clients and offer them the best.

Yeah, you're right, and just be honest to the customers about your products and services. Telling lies to customers is not really good for business.

This reminds me of a story of a Chinese businessman who did that undercutting of the competition. The buyers would mention the price of his competitor as a way of haggling. The Chinese would instantly lower his price. And so the story goes that the Chinese got bankrupt simply because his clients were just fooling him with the quoted prices of his competitor. But the lesson is that the Chinese had established a firm bond with his clients that his next business would surely succeed.
