7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

Your blog is eager to be read, if it wasn't, how come you're publishing quality content to it every week?  It's pretty exciting to think of what you're newly published content can do in terms of traffic since it's extremely unpredictable.  You may have spent 10 minutes or 10 hours putting together an amazing post about your niche, but it doesn't matter how long you take to write it up, it matters how people will react to it and how often it gets seen.  The downside of blogging is that people won't come read your masterpiece as soon as you hit the publish button.  This is because you need to do a bit more work after launching your new article for the masses in order for them to come in and love, share, comment, like, etc.

The work load actually increases after you hit "publish" because you've basically just been preparing for what was to come.  Most people think that you just publish content and you're done, the traffic will come eventually without much work involved, but that's not true at all.

This discussion will cover the 7 things that you can do to get the most out of your content, so lets get started.

Go over your blog posts formatting a few times
If you've ever published a blog post before, you know that formatting can mess up even after you've taken time to make everything look perfect.  This is why we always tell people to double and triple check their formatting after publishing just to make sure everything shows up the same as before they clicked that publish button.

As soon as you publish your new content, you need to go check it to make sure it's looking right.  You don't want someone to contact you and let you know that it's messed up, because by that point, many people have already seen it messed up and likely think you're not a professional.  You might not even get someone to contact you and you're getting 1,000 people a day reading that specific post.  This means that you've been seen as a less professional blogger than your competition by at least 1,000 people.  Imagine if you don't catch this mistake for a couple weeks, do you think people will come back to your blog?

This is an extremely simple thing to do and many people don't think about it.  In fact, there have been a few posts I've done here on Seocheckout that messed up for some reason, likely because of a plugin I had, and I didn't catch the post right away.  I fixed it a few hours after I posted it, because I check everything I submit, but there were likely a few people who saw the post and thought "What the hell is Razzy doing?" lol 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

Have multiple social media posts about the same thing
I'm not saying that you should write up variations of the same post and link it to different content.  I'm saying to have multiple approaches to the same article you have on your blog in order to see what converts best for you industry 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

I would say that 10 variations of the same post is a good start, but 15 to 20 would probably be better since you can get more in depth when it comes to figuring out what works.  You can do things like:

  • Use a different title for your social media post
  • Use a quote from your content
  • Show some statistics within the social media post
  • Use a screenshot within your social media post
  • Use some graphs to show people you have statistics

You will only know what works best with your industry if you're trying to test every possible thing you can think of.  You never know what will work best with you industry if you're not testing.  You may think one approach is best, but after testing, you will notice that an approach you thought was bad is actually the best one for your industry.  So be sure to split test whenever you can to get the best performance 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

Contact everyone in your list
Whenever you're building a list, they want to see your new posts, but you need to be sure you're not spamming them all the time if you're writing up 10 posts a day lol.  Sure, they want to see your new content, but they don't want 10 new emails from you each and every day letting them know you just wrote something up.

What I like to do is email my lists every few days, or once a week, and add a link to the best performing posts of the week so I know they will like the new content.  I do this because I'm not blowing up their emails and I'm only showing them the posts that had the best engagement on them.

Your emails don't have to be too fancy, but they can't be just a wall of text within an email.  You can use some basic email templates but be sure to brand them slightly so your subscribers know for sure that it's from you.  If you don't let them know it's you, they could hit the spam button on your emails, and we all know that's not a good thing.

Talk to your influencers when you have a good blog post
Similar to how my list method works, I will only contact my select influencers when I know I have something that the industry likes.  I will never contact them whenever I post something new, because I post a lot of content each week and could go broke if I had them sharing everything lol.

I know a certain post is working with my visitors, so I'll contact each of my influencers one by one and see who has an open spot for advertising.  Sure, not all of them will have space for me to advertise my newest and brightest blog post, but that's why I have multiple influencers I can work with 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content  I won't get my new blog post advertised across all my influencers, but I don't usually need them all to boost my traffic since a lot of them have similar followings.

Engage with the people who are engaging you
If someone is commenting on your blog post, you need to talk to them in the comments section.  They commented there and they want to see your public response.  One thing people really hate is when you comment on a blog post or social media post and you get a response from the blog or website and all it says is "We sent you a PM".  I know that when I'm reading through comments of a blog post or social media post, and I see this, it makes me think the blog or website is hiding something they don't want heard by the public.  Why else would they be sending private messages, right?

If you're just publishing content and ignoring it because all you want is increased search engine rankings, you won't have a happy following.  They will comment and ask questions with hopes you will come and respond, so be sure to respond and keep your visitors happy 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

Thank anyone who shares your content or tweets/retweets it
People will likely share your content on their favorite social media platform, and that's usually facebook or twitter.  If you can figure out who is sharing and where they are doing it, be sure to go there and personally thank them from your blogs profile on that social media platform.  This will help build up your own following because people will see that you're taking the extra step to reach out, which most companies aren't doing.

Your response doesn't have to be super long, you can simply comment "Thanks for sharing our content!" and people will notice 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

Rewrite your old posts that were successful
A lot of bloggers will publish content, promote it, then forget about it after a few weeks because they've moved on to bigger and better things.  What you can do is rewrite your old, successful, posts in order to bring people back in and recreate the success you previously had.

As long as you're not duplicating the post by copying and pasting the content and switching up the titles, you'll be able to get a decent amount of engagement.  Most people don't think to do this because they want all their content to be about different things, but in reality, you have a finite amount of things to write about which means you will likely run out of topics.  By rewriting your old posts, you're going to increase the lifespan of your content and keep your visitors happy 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

Think about it, how many times have you been to an SEO website and they only have 1 blog post about backlinks?  NEVER!  They have dozens or hundreds of posts about backlinks, and they're all unique.  This helps in the search engines as well as increase engagement across the board 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

In Conclusion
Your content isn't done as soon as you click "Publish" so keep working with it in order to get the most out of it.  You will need to push your posts with ads and influencers in order to increase engagement, which you'll have to follow up on if you want your following to love what you're blog or website is all about 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content  Be sure to thank everyone who helps you out and also you need to be rewriting your old content that showed some success.  Doing all of the following will make sure you get the most out of your blog posts and boost your engagement as well as sales in the long run 7 things to do in order to get the most our of your own content

Excellent tips and I know they work because I put them into practice.

RE: Your tip about multiple social media posts. I use Sumo and it has a highlight function. I highlight certain portions of text at my post and can tweet the same post many times.

RE: Your tip about rewriting old posts. Before images were encouraged, many of my blog posts did not have images or the images were small. I edit my old blog posts regularly because lots of them need to be updated with relevant images. I've been blogging since 2011 so it's not a job I can do in one day. But once I update them and I share them into my social media posts stream again.

You must maintain your content, especially updating broken links, adding images, etc. Otherwise, people get disappointed with your work. I know when I visit a website or a blog and links are broken, etc., I get disheartened. I try to make sure my visitors don't have a disappointing experience.

I disagree with rewriting old posts because for me a post that was published should be kept intact. But maybe adding pictures or even videos would be fine. Alteration of the contents is not a good idea because you may delete something that should be there and if that happens then that will be a big disaster. Maybe you just have to write new contents that will serve as reference for the intended changes to the old contents.

Oh, I'm very careful about what content I delete. It's usually related links that no longer exists. Some people delete their blogs and articles but if you don't check the links yourself, you will have a lot of erroneous links coming from your blog. Also when they started with http versus https, some people didn't switch their image URLs and if you drew in an image along with a link, it shows up screwy-looking on your blog. My Blogspot blogs always show a warning before I hit the publish button. Also, I rewrite things that have significantly changed. For example, if you're providing advice on using a tool and that tool no longer provides that service, you don't want the reader thinking they can use something that they can't. There are all kinds of valid reasons to rewrite or update your blog post content. Keeping a post intact and giving out erroneous information are 2 different things.

I think I will have to focus on having multiple social media posts about the same thing. I have 6 facebook pages. If I promote the same post on these different social media pages I will be able to reach a different audience. For example, I can share my health niche post on travel niche page.
Using different title, using a quote from the article, showing stats are all good ways to engage people.

I think thanking people is a good strategy. And many of us should do that. Because it'd be good for the people who are interested in the content in future. And they may link and keep bookmark of the content. And that seems to be one way to get the most out of such content marketing. I have also checked on one strategy where people write in blog carnival. That also works for getting most of the exposure.

I really agree with you on that. Gratitude is something that brings people closer together. It connects us with what we value and uphold together as a community. It strengthens ties so much that we learn to better appreciate each other. Both as a creator and target audience.

These are all awesome ideas here, and several of them, for some reason, I did not think of myself! I already do multiple social media attacks regarding my blogs, but I am sure that I could definitely do more and be more aggressive in that category. Thanking and acknowledging those who traffic your sites is obviously a good idea, and I think that it really helps to create a sense of community with you and your customers. I also really like your conclusion here--in some ways, I think that a good piece of writing is never done, and that if you put the right amount of pressure upon your content, then it can yield more than you may have initially expected!

Sharing the same content over and over on the same social media platform can be considered spamming. However, if you share the same content on various social media platforms and write an interesting year along with related 2-3 hashtags, you can maximize your social media sharing. You should also update your content time and again because the stale content is never liked by the audience.

Going over my content several times is absolutely not an issue for me, as I've gotten into the habit of practically triple checking anything I create. One could say it's almost a kind of obsessive compulsive disorder, but whether it's an email, a video, or a written project, I double or triple check absolutely everything and then even return to it in the future sometimes just to absolutely make sure everything is a-okay. Besides that, I like the fact that you reflect on the importance of engaging with the community and being grateful to those around you. Very wholesome and positive advice.

That’s a good advice to contact the people in your list. If you have an active social media account, more likely you have a thousand friends in Facebook. Think of the people you can reach if you will check the list of your friends. However, it is easier said than done because I seldom react to such spams, yeah, I call it spam when a friend would send me a message about promoting something. What I will do is to post the promotion on my timeline and include a creative approach so my friends who can see my post will think twice before ignoring it.

I have used this approach very well when I was into networking. I was very active on Facebook and it served as my hunting ground for clients. I also targeted some public pages and post some of my promotional articles on them. I has several people reach out to me after going through my content and picking interests.

Creating multiple pages would really be a great move and posting articles on all of them can definitely help reach a lot of audience form different parts of the worlds. In addition, thank those who share and advertised your post is really a good point. It is because they will probably to it again because they feel that they were recognized.

In order to maximize your social media promotion, you need to create social media accounts and pages for your website. You need to have facebook and google + pages, twitter, instagram, and pinterest accounts. And you have to promote your website on these sites. Having multiple images on your content and pinning each images on your content and sharing on Pinterest is very beneficial. Sharing your contents on numerous facebook pages will help you reach wide audience.

I definitely agree with you on this one. I know someone who uses this technique and speeds up his popularity. He also told me that he targets to make or share more than 300 post a day to be able to reach a wide audience and if someone commented, replied or shared his post he responds as soon as possible. This way he can attract more audience.

You need to promote your contents to generate traffic. You will generate revenue only when you have traffic. However, having traffic alone does not guarantee revenue. Your traffic also must convert. Traffic conversion means getting clicks on ads and products as well as sales.

That is true. In addition, I think you should also choose your target groups wisely. This way you can save time and effort by spending it to those who might actually read and spend their time browsing your content rather than to those who have never thought of it.

I agree with the point on thanking anyone that shares or like your post. Showing appreciation is something most people fail to understand the power it holds. Once it's exploited, such person would always be keen to read your content and share it as well. Remember that the more the share, the more wider reach your content is getting, this means more traffic for you as well.

You should always thank to the people who share your work, you should always respond to the people who comment on your work. You should also get back to the people and leave comments on their posts who leave comments on your posts. Yoy should always respond and reciprocate.

Great tips, Tommy. I'll say that one of the most important things when writing a blog is to focus on your interests and strengths. you cannot be able to sustain a blog when you are limited in your ideas because you are simply not interested in the subject you are talking about. Once you have the passion for what you're writing, you can easily relate your experiences with other people, which will make your posts more genuine, and in turn attract more similar-minded individuals until you form your own niche. from there, it is only a matter of keeping your blog presentable, easy to read, with good spelling, grammar, and punctuation, to keep your reader coming back. If you have an established "fanbase," they'll even serve as your promotions people because they will share your blog posts in their own social media.

Great tips as usual, Thanks for sharing. I think we should do some of this to make sure that we get the most out of our posts. It is just some of the options we can use to make sure that our blog is successful and does what we want it to. It is always good to be aware of these tips.

I've come to notice that engaging people that engage us on our content is a good way to show that we want to be interactive with them. The good thing about doing so is that you get to see how they feel about the articles you write as well as places that you can get better. This is one of the key ways that we can get to become better at getting the best out of every content that we write on a daily basis.

I've read lots of content on the internet. It's inspiring to see that more and more are becoming quality posts. I think the best you can do is to continually improve your content. People will appreciate your work and will support you with your site.
