    Why you shouldn't worry about instant profits

    Setting up a website in order to make money isn't for everyone, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.  Making money online isn't an easy thing to do, but it's definitely possible since a lot of us are already doing it!  One thing I do notice is that a lot of people worry about how much they're making a day or week after they launch their websites, but I'm here to tell you that you shouldn't focus on your profits right away after launching.  This is because there are plenty of other things you need to focus on like your marketing, social media profiles, SEO, and branding.  Many things with your website will need attention, and if you're focusing on your sales all the time, you could miss a lot of things that might need to be focused on.  Some people focus on their sales so much that they waste a ton of money on PPC campaigns in Adwords and Facebook ads that they don't post as often as they should on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and all the other major platforms.  If you aren't focusing on your company's overall performance, because you're simply focusing on profits, you won't be in business for long.In this discussion, I'll be going over why you shouldn't worry about instant profits right after you launch.No one will be rich overnight
    There hasn't been a single person who has launched a website that was instantly rich overnight.  Sure, there are some people who are making money hand over fist the next day after they go live, but how many of them were bootstrapping or not relying on a large investment from an angel in order to push their companies?  Not many, and this is the main reason you should not be focusing on your profits right away.You will need to focus on the overall workings of your business, not just the closings and sales going into your shopping cart.  If you don't focus on how your business is working, you won't have to focus on how it's profiting because it will go downhill pretty quick because of your lack of focus.Unless you're running ads, you won't get traffic right away
    When you run ads on Facebook or Adwords you will get some instant traffic, and possibly some sales, but there's no guarantee that you will profit.  A lot of people spend thousands of dollars on advertising to never see a single penny in profit.  What if you're not running ads, can you still make some money?  YUP!  You can add loads of quality content to your website in order to hit the top of the search engine rankings and siphon plenty of free traffic to your websites homepage, service pages, and product pages.  This, of course, will take time because you will need to be doing SEO for a while before cracking into the top of the search results, but it's worth the time investment!People trust branded websites, and that takes time
    Everyone wants to find the best deal online, and you very well might have that on your website, but if you're not branded you won't get as many sales as you should.  People trust websites they've heard of in the past, which are the branded ones, so you will need to start branding your company as soon as you can.  Branding isn't an overnight type of thing, so don't expect instant results.  You won't be the best of the best in your industry right away, even if you think you are because no one will be talking about you right away.  You need to make some waves, in a positive way before you start having people purchase from you on their first visit.  You need to work out the glitches before going big

    I know us freelancers and bloggers never want to hear that we are not going to be "instantly rich" or successful, but your advice here is SO important, I think. I started blogging a few years ago, but I only really got serious about monetizing things about six months ago. Some part of thought that it would be easy too, but it comes with a ton of hard work, and, most importantly from what I have found, determination. You just have to persevere. Like you said above OVER TIME you will see your work pay off, so you have to be willing to invest that time and effort and put your faith in what you are doing. Eventually, you will see results as long as you don't just quit. I really believe that.

    I do think that you will find success over time, but success doesn't always involve money. Because Joe truth be told that 98% of the websites on the internet don't make a dime. And out of the 2% that does make money, probably 2% of those websites make enough money to make a living.

    And what really kills me is these guys selling ebooks saying I make $150k a year off of my website network. But I will sell you my ebook for $74.99 and tell you how I did it. And suckers buy their ebook! Without sitting back and thinking if he is making a $150k a year, then why is he going to sell me his ebook for $74.99 so that I can be his competition? And truth be told he is probably making his $150k a year selling his ebook to suckers.

    Wow, lol. The truth hurts, but I tend to agree you are speaking the truth here. I started a website for poets, and every time I publish 100 poems, I put out an ebook and a hard copy of an anthology of the poems there. The poets do want the hard copy usually, and I try to surprise them with original cover art and little surprises here and there in the book. In doing this, I pretty much have a built in purchasing audience, but there's NO way I could make enough money off of this venture to make a living! It's fun and cool to create the books, and it makes the contributors happy, but it is no cash cow, that's for sure, and I would never sell one for $75! Especially not to broke underground poets, right?

    I think if you approach it like a regular job you will see results like a regular job, but not that many people have the hours they need to devote to their blog. Usually a part time thing is all they can do for their blog or website.

    I had been co-blogging before and that phrase “over time” is very applicable to the earnings of blogging. You have to be patient and be persevering with the build up of the contents for your blog because blogging is about the articles that you write for your niche. When there are lots of contents and traffic is still not picking up then that is the time to consider SEO methods for your blog.

    You shouldn't worry about instant profit because you are starting a business and need to build a brand. Building a brand is the first target for a reasonable and determined online entrepreneur that really wants to make money online. Profits will start coming at the right time when your business will have become fully established. Your website is your brand and, thus, your virtual real estate.

    Exactly. Building a brand takes time. I am trying to think of any popular or successful brands which came right out of the gate with great success and then still stood the test of longevity. I think that the slow and steady, yet dependable and consistent pace, is more preferable than the "flash-in-the-pan" quick buck or the "one-hit-wonder". Sure, it's good to make a fast buck, and who wouldn't want to, but it is also real cool to build a lasting brand and the customer base which comes with that and keeps coming back. That's my philosophy, anyway. I am more of a tortoise than a hare, I guess.

    Yeah, I agree with you 100%. I think that when you start your business initially, it's important that you try to focus on other aspects of your business rather than maximising your profit. Once you have developed your brand properly, like you said, it's much easier to then focus on improving your profit. And it gives you a good foundation to build on as well

    Quality work first and the rest comes with time.

    The big problem in this is people who want to make money overnight, as if everything happened like a magic trick. Then, since most of them can't do this, they end up frustrating very easily and giving up work (including making bad comments for those who want to get in).

    WOW, Razzy, I really enjoyed your article today, I think this is the most down to earth article that I have seen you write so far. I have seen so many people putting the cart before the horse that it's not even funny. Like you said they invest thousands only to find out that there not going to make a dime. And whats worst yet is some of these people are taking money away from their families in hopes of striking it rich. I sure hope anyone wanting to start a new online business reads your article before they go spending money that they don't have.

    No one can grow rich overnight, however, it is also true that you cannot continue to work when it is not giving you profits. I launched my website two years ago. However, I have not been able to earn even my domain and hosting renewal charges from my websites. Yes, I know I need to be patient, but for how long?
    My websites are my investment and I am burnishing a hope that these websites will earn me a good revenue. but how long should I wait?

    I agree with this and I think this is a pitfall many beginners fall into because they don't instantly see the results and they are discouraged. This only means that they haven't prepared enough and have no sufficient plans because if they did then they would know that it will take time to get to the destination and that building the brand and an audience is necessary. Fortunately, I think many younger people these days are very smart and don't fall into this trap.

    I think instant profit is the wrong approach to look at the online money. Because here we can't really predict if it may work or may not work. I have seen some of the people who are posting content all day. And they are trying to make up with the affiliate marketing. And it can take time for the profit. So instant profit is a myth. And surely something like that is not a good thing. We have to consider that instant profit is definitely not a good approach for the things.

    I agree. I think many people see the results of years of hard work and because they did not see the build up towards it they imagine that the success was made easily and overnight. I can understand why people think this way as I am guilty of it too in many occasions, but it simply is not the best way of looking at things. Nor is it good to make plans and not consider that short term profits may also be necessary and I've also seen many companies create great things but have no idea how to monetize them.

    Yes. I do agree that some niche and trends are instant profit. But it takes a lot of time for anyone to build their profit. And it can be really hard to get things properly on the ground. Some of the time having profits laid out can be a bit harder if you ask me. I think people look at the output instead of looking at the effort. So that's another thing to learn as well.

    Perfectly stated, thinking about profit in early days of a business might bring frustration and disappointment, nothing good has ever been achieved overnight.I know human are always try to be in the fast lane and thinking about shortcuts and this is where we get it all wrong.

    Starting a business and getting through with it needs patience and commitment.No need jumping ship, put things in place, fix all that needs to be fixed, clear all bugs and set a good standard before thinking about profit.With all this in mind, one can walk through the stress of business without breaking down.

    It is true that all of us must think about profit when we invest in a business. However, thinking about the profit just a day after you launch your business is a wrong approach. Business does not make you money instantly. First of all, your business needs to earn the operating cost. When you reach the break-even point, then you have to change your focus on making profits.

    Yes, the old adage don't quit your day job is something that most bloggers and entrepreneurs have to keep in mind. It can be a long haul to turn a profit on a blog or website, and instant riches are not going to happen for the vast majority of people.

    That is true. You shouldn't just quit your job if you have one since that will still be your main income for at least a while.

    The reality is that not every blog or website ever starts making enough money to survive just of off that. You have to keep your options open.

    I couldn't agree more with the things that you have mentioned. Many people go into creating a website purely for the making money aspect and I do understand why but at the same time they really do expect to get rich overnight. Sadly, that is not possible because even if you invest your own money into promotion and marketing you have to give it some time to take of and start making the revenue that you envisioned.

    I think it's perfectly okay to create a website for making money. But the execution has to be in such way that one is building the community around. So that in itself can be something one can learn about. You would surely see that instant profit is not going to be a good idea. And revenue can't be coming instantly. And it would take like a long time to see some serious growth.

    Instant profit is almost impossible especially with websites, forums and blogs. You need to put in a lot of work, money and time into these types of projects and you just cannot expect to get instant profit from these sites. You will need to spend quite a bit on hosting, domains and marketing etc. And you won't make money from your site instantly which makes it hard to break even let alone make a profit.

    This article is very informative. There is nothing like quick profits unless it is free money. I have seen most big businesses being closed it is probably because they were focusing on making quick profits. Every good thing takes time and needs more patience.

    I agree that instant profit is only possible if you get so lucky just like in winning the lotto. But for an honest to goodness job or business, time is of the essence. Hard work and perseverance do count so we should have that in our daily life. But not to forget, learning hands on is one important element for a freelancer. So when someone offers you a business that promises instant profit that is incredible or too good to be true then beware because it is 99% probable that it is a scam.

    Most companies will take a long time to become profitable. It is next to impossible to really make money right out of the gate. Unfortunately, many people who are drawn to starting a business see the success of others but have no clue about the struggle. SO, they have this idea that they can just open their doors and the money will flow.

You don't expect to start making profits or breaking even at the start-up, but must endeavour to work hard once you are 100% sure you are into a profitable business.     Eventually after a lot of effort, time, energy and even money most site owners gradually begin making money of the contents of their sites. Its not an over the night thing or make money over night as the post said, a lot has to be put into it like also explained in the post.

    But I still want to make it clear that most people start a site for the sole purpose of making money. Nothing more motivates them better than money. This is the reason why am recommending the tips and advices explained in the post.

    I have giving so much testimonies about my own experience when I started as a freelancer newly, I have had to answer similar questions like this because I enjoy telling the whole world my story and how I started, me reminiscing about it a lot helps me to remember how I started out. I started out broke depressed and unaccepted with just income making on my mind, it didn't go down well with me because I thought I could make easy money, without stress only to post and comment and own a blog I did do crazy things I couldn't handle because of my search for money. But now I don't get to bother because I enjoy what I do, freelancing is now my passion always remember that it works with patience, freelancing and blogging requires your time and both your dedication to it always remember that.

    It is not easy to earn online. It demands determination and hard work. When I first started selling my products online it was very difficult for me. I was barely getting any orders. I had to invest in advertising and improve my customer service. It took at least one year to start making profits. I am happy that I never gave up and today my business is flourishing and I want it to grow further.
