Motivation Monday - You won't know your potential unless you try

It's Motivation Monday! I myself need some motivation from time to time, so I'm here to help those people who need a little bit of a push in order to keep motivated or to re-fuel their systems for success. We all get drained by overworking ourselves and want to take a break, but that break could actually hurt your company or freelancing services. We all work to make money and we need to keep our clients happy, so you need to stay up and positive. Sure, you might fail once or twice, but you can't let that keep you down. Think of all the positive things you've done in the past and that should keep you going.

If you're constantly getting down about your work, you always need to get up 1 more time. You need to keep pushing yourself when it comes to working online because times may get rough and you don't know how much longer it will take before you jump on the success train.

It doesn't matter how many times you get knocked down, it matters how many times you can get back up and keep pushing.

I remember exactly where I got my rule "1 more time". I was in high school and my baseball coach put us all in weightlifting instead of gym class. I was a 6'1' junior who didn't have much confidence because I was pretty skinny for my height, I think I was 140lbs or around there. I would be in the weight room with all these behemoth football players, but after a week or so I realized there was no need for intimidation because they all treated each other like brothers. Soon after I realized this, we were figuring out what our MAX was for the bench press. Obviously, I wasn't going to be benching insane amounts, but that didn't matter. My coach, who was also the weightlifting teacher, would spot everyone when they were maxing out. It was my turn and I was attempting to bench 185lbs, but my coach added an additional 20lbs because he thought I could do it. Now, I've never even benched 185lbs but my coach thought I could do 200+ lol. I began to push the first rep and my coach yells "1 more!" and I go for a second. Everyone in the weight room saw what I was doing and gathered around. I hit the second rep and everyone went wild, they were yelling "1 more!" "You Got This!" "PUSH!" and it amped me up so much that I eventually hit 5 reps at 205lbs and I only weighed 140ish Motivation Monday - You won I kept going, even though I thought I couldn't do the first one, and eventually stalled out on the 6th and my coach had to help me re-rack the weights lol. When I got off of the bench and stood up, the weight room went crazy and I then realized I was in the center of a sort of huddle where everyone was jumping around in excitement because of what I did

I told you that story because I didn't have confidence in myself, but my coach did and so did the rest of the people in there. I felt like I was a part of the family now because I pushed myself towards success with their help. If you don't push yourself to do one more, get up one more time or just strive to be successful, you will never know your limits. I thought I couldn't do even one rep at 205lbs but others believed in me and I ended up doing 5 Motivation Monday - You won

Many people keep themselves down
Most of the time when someone fails, it's because they didn't even try to start. Our own beliefs are what keep us down and we need to stop doing this to ourselves. I kept myself from believing that I could do something, but my eyes opened up when I was in High School, and ever since then I've been pushing to be a better person and getting up when I'm knocked down so that I never fail again. Sure, I will not get the results I want every time, but I don't consider that a failure Motivation Monday - You won

Pick yourself up, keep striving for greatness and take your success.

You never know your potential, unless you try
This links in with the above section "Many people keep themselves down". If you're not trying, how do you know if you'll be good at something or not? I was an all-star baseball player when I was in little league all the way through College, but I would never have known that if I didn't ask my mom if I could play on my friends' teams when I was younger.

I'm a great artist as well, a drawer not a singer-songwriter or musician lol, but I wouldn't have known that if I never picked up a pen and paper to draw something I saw in my head. Yes, it took many years to get to the point I am at, but I kept at it and eventually was able to draw anything I wanted and make it look amazing.

It doesn't matter if you're working online, playing sports or honing your skills in something else. If you never try to do something, you will never know if you have the potential to be good at it.

Just because you failed one time, doesn't mean you're a failure
Many people get down after they fail just one time. You can't let your one failure define you because life is a cocktail of successes and failures mixed together to make you. Take each failure with you and learn from them. If you fail at something, big or small, at least now you know what not to do the next time after you get up from this failure Motivation Monday - You won

Some of the biggest names failed before they achieved success
Do you think Mark Zuckerberg just had the idea for Facebook and put up a website in a few days and BAM! Millionaire? Nope! It takes years of work and failures in order to get to the success levels of some of these people you hear about every day. Oprah Winfrey wasn't always successful in the beginning of her career, and now she's one of the richest women in the world.

Success stories are paved with miles and miles of hard work, failures and small achievements. If you're not trying, you're just holding yourself back from success Motivation Monday - You won

In Conclusion
Everyone has a different story, but they all have something in common. You need to get out there, learn from your failures and use them to hone your skills and approach to success. Take it one failure at a time and figure out what went wrong. Fix each failure as it comes, and eventually, you will hone your skills to a point where you will never fail. Now, you won't always be successful, but you will see the bigger picture and a failure will just be part of your path to success Motivation Monday - You won

This is inspiring and motivating, this is just the tonic needed to face our difficult days knowing that everything we ever needed to achieve is possible.

Nobody is a failure, we just need to put our right foot forward, do all we are suppose to do and we all be winners.

We all have the potential to excel and it right inside of us,we just need to harness it and we become victorious in no time.

You are right with your encouraging words that nobody can be considered a real failure unless you quit the game. There is truth in the adage that you can try and try until you succeed because so many rich businessmen have gone that way before they finally hit the big time. Maybe we just have to check on ourselves to look for our potential that can be cultivated and be our main weapon in the game of called life.

That's a very nice post. We should never be discouraged by failures. In the past, I couldn't accept failures and each failure would only weaken me up to the point that I never bothered to try again. However, over time I learned some valuable lessons from my differently-abled friend. My friend used to play ParaVolley and his aim was get selected to join the national team. He failed so many times and yet he continued to work hard to achieve his goal. He eventually got selected. I learned from this friend not to give up and to keep on trying. Over the years I understood that failures are what will actually help me to learn about mistakes and work hard so as not to make them again.

This is so true. Just because of a previous failure, it does not mean that you cannot do something. Never give up on anything because you never know how something will turn out this time. The most important thing that you need to do is to never give up, keep trying and make sure that you learn from your previous mistakes. The person that learns from his mistakes is the one that will be the most successful.

I guess the thing that is discouraging is when you "never" feel like you succeed, at least in the way you want to. It really comes down to self belief and to generate better results for ourselves. I think instead of beating ourselves up for our failures we need to compliment ourselves or acknowledge what we did well.

Fear of Failure is what keeps many people from trying. Failure is painful that’s why most people avoid it without realizing that holding back from trying is already a failure. The basic instinct of human is to be safe, move away from the things that could hurt physically, mentally, and emotionally. The fear of failure develops as an individual is growing up. The family, friends, and growing environment are the big factors that contribute in person’s developing fear of failure as it is growing up. An individual surrounded by skeptic people when growing up has a bigger chance of developing fear of failure.

You are correct. I think that the fear of failing is something that scares almost everybody. Even the most confident people may have fears of a certain thing failing which might hold them back. But the important thing that people need to remember is that, even if you fail, it's not the end of the world. If you can learn from your mistakes then you will become an even better person and will be able to make better decisions in the future.

Yes, we have to stretch ourselves out of our comfort zone. It is just one of the things that we might need to force ourselves to do. It is just one of the options that we might think about and try to do on a daily basis so that we can get used to doing it.

You won't know if you like any food unless you eat it, you won't know if you're going to like a movie unless you watch it, you won't know if you like any drink unless you drink it and the list goes on... So, what I'm trying to say is: try is a key word for you to figure things out. Motivation Monday - You won

This post reminded me of Steve Harvey's words to the Oprah's Life Class episode. He was asked, How do you overcome the fears and doubts? And he said, "The fear and doubts are part of it... everything I've ever done started with fear. I have to overcome fear all the time. When I wrote my book, I was afraid, when they told me, we wanted you to be a game show host, I've never done that, I was afraid. I have to overcome fear all the time. But the best way for me to overcome fear is to dream has to be bigger than the fear. That's the only way you turn around and run at it."

I agree with him 100% on this. we should always measure what is more important in our circumstances. Is it the fear of failure, rejection or change or is it more important to work hard on it.

Referring to comment I just posted below about me learning to program, I had lots of fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of, what if i wasn't that good of a programmer. But really, there is nothing to be scared of. Don't have fear. Have fun.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

AmieBotella
You are absolutely right. We don't have to fear. But what I also learned from experience is fear is essential. For without it, you will never know the true meaning of bravery. You will never know what it was like when you conquer fear. The best things are experienced when difficulties have been passed through. That is life. But there are really times when fear of the unknown eats you up. And that's when you need to up your game.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Everett
You are spot on as well. I totally agree with you, with your statement "But what I also learned from experience is fear is essential. For without it, you will never know the true meaning of bravery.".

It does not hurt to have a little fear, as fear can also be used as a learning mechanism. However, if you ever want to push yourself, do not have fear. Fear can get in the way of your dreams. In reality, it is actually your thought processes that create fear, so essentially you are in the way of your dreams, goals, and whatever else it is you are doing. Not speaking to you directly, saying you have fear but just people in general. Fear of the unknown is silly once you find out the unknown, and it becomes 'known'.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think fear is what tells us about the changes in our life. We have to listen to it instead of consuming by it. You can see that when we listen to it we can make changes. You consume by it then you make wrong choices. So yes your post reminded me of that part. Oprah's reference was also spot on this type of the post. It makes me think of many things right now. Motivation needs constant work from what I have seen.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Everett
If fear is setting anyone back, you need to take a clear look at your situation. You need to basically create a firewall within your own though processes and tell fear "No!". I do not fear that. Sounds really silly, but it does work!

Now fear is a survival mechanism. So with that being said, it is perfectly okay to be fearful of things as it is nature.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
I agree that fear is what keeps us going. And it is the source of the changes in the life. You can see that some of the time people don't pay much attention to the changes that we have to go through with the motivation and the action. But as long as we are moving and motivating our own self things change. But it requires a lot of effort in due time as well.

Two years ago, I always wondered how a website is built. Currently, I build wordpress site for clients. I don't have any skills and knowledge on programming, however, I did not know I could build a wordpress site from scratch until I tried this myself. You know what you can do only when you attempt to do it.

About 8-9 years ago, I did not know how programming worked. I knew absolutely nothing of it. I played a couple online games that were coded in PHP and i knew they were coded in PHP because the end of the URL resulted in .php. I wanted to see if i could learn how to code it. At first, it looked terrifying. I saw programming as another language in and of itself. I had zero clue on where to start, and zero clue how to code the basics of HTML, and CSS.

I decided I would teach myself. I have heard of people learning to program on their own. Initially i thought they were super nerds and that intelligence, and the inner workings of things just came to them. I decided to really give it a go. Nothing to lose. So I wanted to start off by teaching myself how to program a MMORPG browser text-based game written in PHP.

I looked for scripts for games, and found one that was opensource. When I look back I realize the code was hideous. Whomever created that script, lets just say i hope they are not still programming, the code was just awful. Anyways, so after i found my script, i decided i didnt like certain features, and wanted to them change them. However, this is when i really messed up. I refreshed my browser and bam, PHP ERRORs everywhere. I googled the problem, and this is when i really learned to code PHP. I learned by "coding through errors". It didn't take that long just a lot of reading, and troubleshooting. Before you know it, i was creating my own php scripts from scratch. No college schooling, no training, no courses. Probably the best mistake ever, PHP error.

Haters are my motivators! Nope! Just kiddng! I do not believe I have any haters.. that I know of. However, whenever I do not feel like working online, and i dread logging into my computer and doing my work, I think of things to keep me motivated. Let me explain:

1. Food. Food is a great motivator. If you're like me and do not have a day job (the market here is crazy where i live, i am trying to land a fulltime job but they are rare a scarce) then you want to make all the money you can in one day.

2. Housing. You need housing to live. Well you could be homeless with access to electricity and wireless. But I like to live in a house with a roof and 4 walls. Heating, and water is nice too!

So these are a couple of my motivators. Whenever i feel like i want to just be lazy, i always have these 2 things in the back of my mind. What i dont make any earnings today? Can i afford to feed myself for the next week, or 2 weeks? What if I lose my place of residence? Can i afford to pay the bills, and the rent? Just some questions I ponder whenever i am lazy.

Yes, you can't realize your potential unless you take actions. Actions make you see what you have never seen before in your life. A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one would find fault with what he has done. Many prefer using their potentials to serve men, who don't even have their type of potentials. They don't ever want to be on their own, but just want to serve. Take actions today on just anything you think you can do perfectly and start building on that.

I think motivation is really hard when you are not making money. And especially when you have to put some food on table. That's the thing about the motivation that worries me a lot. I have struggled a lot with affiliate marketing. And continues to do so. But I need to find a way to get all of this working. Not sure where to start and where to get. But food and shelter is always in my mind to get things properly sorted. I am guessing that as things go ahead it'd be reasonable to make choices. And then those choices can put us in more control as time goes on.

This sounds a little bit like depression. However, what really motivates me is survival. Without being motivated to be online everyday, for hours a day at a time with little sleep then I could go hungry, or lose a roof over my head. This is the same for many freelancers as well. We work every day without days off, and if we do take a day off then it is really needed. We strive to offer the best support we can to our customers, we try to make everything we do the best quality as possible. Basically we are existing in our own little work world to provide services for people that either do not know what they are doing, or do not want to do the work themselves. It does get tiring, but it has to be done. Otherwise, if you are slacking then your credit goes down the drain, essentially people wont order from you anymore, and you wont get any more money. So we always have to be motivated somehow, by something whether it be food on the table, or a roof over your head..

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
Yes it is depression. The reason being I am stuck with the job and other life stuff. So the motivation is a bit harder. I am getting out of it one after another slowly doing things. And this may means I have to take proper sleep and also watch the diet. So it is something I guess I have to work on. I know I should be positive all the time. But it is kind of hard you know.

Thanks for the motivation here! I have had several business failures in my life, but I always just tried to stay positive and use them as learning opportunities. It can be tough to bounce back from some things, but, I see it as that we do not have a choice. Life must move on. and we need to take care of ourselves and those who love and depend upon us. That being said, your points about how very successful people out there have had a history of failures are good because it demonstrates that, as long as you persevere, things will most likely pan out for you in a great way down the road. Either way, you are experiencing life and learning along the way. It is all a process.

I can fully understand. I have had many website flops and fails. I can not tell you the amount of money I wasted on websites; domain costs, hosting costs, etc. If someone was to present that money to me i would be very happy! Motivation Monday - You won But what I have gathered is, without flops and fails then you will not succeed. You have to fail to prevail, is that the saying? Is it even a saying? I do not know, but I heard that somewhere. Anyways, I gained so much knowledge and experience from many fails in my past to get me to the point of where I am now. I want to fail again, and again to help me gain more knowledge and experience. Now you may be asking how in the world do i gain knowledge and experience in failing? Well once I fail I do many hours of research. I google so much that google always makes me input that stupid recaptcha. Google if you're reading this, whitelist me. But yea, failing is a great thing. But success is better.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I appreciate your comment here, and I wanted to say that, although it hurts at the time, I think that we learn way more from our failures than we do from our successes. When we "fail to prevail", we are given unique opportunities to try to take our mistakes or boundaries and to be even more creative in our approaches to our lives, businesses, projects, etc. For example, I was running a literary website where I set up an ad generator. I foolishly did not check what kinds of ads were popping up, and all of these dating sites started to appear beside the poetry that was getting posted. A lot of my blog frequenters weer not happy with this, and they let me know about it, and it was quite embarrassing. They said that this lessened the integrity of the work on the site. I went in and fixed this issue, but it was definitely a learning experience.

Seriously... the difference between those who succeed and those who fail is the decision to stop trying or not. You look at most of the top professionals. We mostly just hear about the success story. But, when you dig into their life, you find they have had a long list of failed ventures under their belt.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's why I think trying is the big key of the game. So, when you give up too easy of things, it might be a sign that you're not "pre-destined" for success.

Fall and rise, fall and rise (as many times as necessary) is part of the process. If you can't figure out this rule, you're already dead.

This is something that I've been having such a hard time convincing myself of. Lately I've had a lot of fear and insecurity holding me back from starting new endeavors , but I'm slowly starting to realize that the disappointment associated with the fear of not trying is probably much worse than any disappointment I could have from the result of failure. At least then I could say I tried rather than not having tried at all.

Thomas Edison was a bit of a jerk, but I have to admit that I love the quote "I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Most people would agree that the road to success is paved with trial and error.

I admit that I am not a writer especially with articles. And when my boss recommended that I take up a writing course to improve my written English, I don't know what got into me. Instead of enrolling in a workshop, I took up the challenge of a writer friend to work online instead. That's the time I learned that I was up to par in forum posting and that my stock knowledge is an advantage. Truly you don't know your potential until you tried.

Great advice as always. I have a problem of being unmotivated to start something because when I am not familiar with a certain task or item, I often feel daunted by it and I always imagine things to be more grave or bigger than they actually are. Most of the time once I just bite my teeth and dive right in, I quickly find out that there was really not much to be afraid of and it was just all in my head. Nowadays I still struggle with that but at least I am more conscious of my weakness.

I used to live in a rural area and I tend to think of many things in a rural setting.

Just look at how trees grow. They start from small seeds. Given the right conditions, they sprout. However, they need to be nurtured before they can grow big. A lack of water or sunlight at the early stage would kill the sapling.

Same with success in life. Especially with making money. The idea you have is the seed. Find the right condition to get started. You don't need a million dollars to get started. Just something small and appropriate. Then you have to take care of your growing business. Nurture it. Protect it. Keep on believing in it. Eventually, you will be rewarded with a big tree of success.

Amen to that. As the saying goes rest but never give up. This is a brilliant story. The easiest thing would be to give up. Life can get really hard, it's so tempting to stay in bed all day. It's inspiration like this that reminds us all to get up and fight another day. It's not that easy to think positive all the time, sometimes life can weigh you down.

I keep a book where I have all my mantras. I say them every day to keep myself positive and to motivate myself to achieve greater things. It's true you have to get out of your comfort zone and do things you never thought you would do,

I totally agree with your points. You'll really never know your potential unless you try. A lot of people don't even try because of their self-limiting beliefs. They are afraid to fail. Every successful person started their journey with the decision to start trying. A lot of failures happen at the middle of a journey. Failure is part of success. It's part of the process of learning. Each failure teaches a lesson. It's a proof that you are doing something to improve yourself so you can unleash your potential. I believe that some of the richest people you have mentioned, Oprah Winfrey and Mark Zuckerberg have learned a lot from many failures before they achieved success. They triumphed over their challenges, learned their lessons from failures, and as you've mentioned, they used what they have learned from failures to hone their skills. They better themselves everyday until they succeed. Never fear failure. Fear the chances you have missed for not even trying. Success happens to those who face their fears and rise.
