Doing various tasks at the same time is not something that pleases everyone, it's something that besides being ideal for certain types of people, there really has to be a willingness to do them so that everything happens as expected. But it's true that doing many tasks at the same time requires extra attention, especially when you are dealing with work involving website development / maintenance and similar activities (just to name a few examples).

How do you see yourself in this kind of situation?

Multitasking has become a trend due to the fast paced life we have today. But not all trends are good practices. Being like everybody else and just following all trends blindly is not my attitude. You simply cannot do everything at once so I don't believe in multitasking. Multitasking is good for tasks that are not really tedious, for example, watching movie like eating popcorn. But when it comes to serious tasks, especially the tedious ones, you really need to focus. Multitasking has a higher chance of reducing the quality of work since you lack focus. You might finish things at once but since your attention is divided, the quality will not be 100% and sometimes, you end up not accomplishing anything. Some people experience this. Focus and productivity accomplish more than multitasking. I rarely multitask things. I only do it for tasks that are very light. For serious tasks, I stay focused and productive. It's less prone to errors and it saves more time and energy. It works better that way.

The answer is actually very simple for me, though it might not be the answer you're looking for. Simply put, I don't multitask. I understand that the idea of multitasking might seem tantalizing to most people. After all, who wouldn't want to get multiple things done during one session of work? I used to be a multitasker, until I realized that I was putting quantity over quality, and in the end I wasn't entirely satisfied with my results. It may seem tempting to work on several projects at once, but by spreading out your dedication you're also spreading out the quality. It is better to concentrate all your efforts into one thing at one time, because that is when you will do your best work. I save multitasking for unimportant things, like cooking a meal and cleaning the apartment at the same time, while listening to a podcast and playing with my cat.

If people could choose not to perform multiple tasks at the same time, they wouldn't choose that option. I understand that sounds like a somewhat obvious decision, but when I thought about posting this topic, I was thinking about situations where you are obligated to do multiple tasks almost simultaneously.

Not doing them would be the first choice, but when do you have no choice? That's the point. Multitasking: How do you deal with them?

I have a daytime job and my functions in the office is varied, from supervising the service desk up to asistance in implementing new applications. Sometimes the projects come in simultaneously and I had to multi-task. But my style of multi-tasking is to chart my timeline for each project. For example, I give 1 hour for the first project and 3 hours for the second project. It's not good for me to multi-task in the real sense of the word because I don't want to break my focus. That is tantamount to scattering myself.

I can multi task 3 different sites at one time in 2 hours, just open up different tabs and comment as fast as I could. It has became a habit for me but sometimes it is very confusing too

Multitasking is what really happens to some busy people because of their expertise. They get multitasked because of the fact that people really need them. They are usually bright in something and that is why they are always multitasked. Personally, I used to be multitasked, but still manage to cope with other regular activities without giving one thing up for another.

If you can multitask well, it is a big advantage for you since you can manage more than one task at the same time which easily results in more money. I think that almost any freelancer has to learn how to multitask properly because you will get several job offers and if you reject any, the client will move on to the next service.

How do I approach it? Easy. I always keep records of all my old and current tasks in a document. I update it daily on the progress I am making so it's easy to keep track. I also set up daily and weekly schedule to make sure that ALL of the tasks get done before the deadline.

I always find it hard to do multitasking. Not necessary for reasons that my brain can't really do the whole thing at once, but as a result of the fact that I really enjoy doing one thing at a time. I have tried doing few things at the same and discovered that it is not something that can be posssible for me.

When it's a personal matter, it's easier to solve because you can choose whether or not you do more than one type of activity... But when you don't have a choice and you have to do - obligatorily - do many activities at the same time?

Can you do it well?

I have found out that breaking the tasks into multiple modules. And then doing one task at a time. And then giving priority you can get more things done. And the multi tasking is something you need to properly do if you have any long term goals for the work. I have learned that multi tasking requires a lot of energy to get the work done. Some of the time you can see that multi tasking requires you to be proactive. And you should be able to get most of the stuff done on time. But make sure to properly assign the time or else things may go out of the priority often as well.

I can prepare meals sort to the children while cooking I have my laptop open while working. So yeah I can multitask while some do struggle to do one thing at a time as some say concentrate on thing at a time. But sometimes needs must and you got to do what you got to do.

I have to multitask quite often and this can be challenging at times. If you have good time management and organizational skills then those will make multitasking easier for you. I prepare ''To-Do'' lists on a daily basis. I include the tasks that I have to do during the day according to their urgency and also the estimated amount of time to complete each task on my ''To-Do'' list. This has really helped me to complete my projects on time.

Muiti-tasking has always been the way out for almost all areas of our lives. If one does not multitask, alot of work or areas of our life will be left bare. For me I write all I need to do for the day and pick two or three simple one to do at a time,Well, this depend solely on how many jobs I need to accomplish in a day. Then the difficult ones I take them one after the other.

I'm actually really good at multi-tasking and I would definitely put it down as one of my best skills. It's definitely a great skill to have because it can be beneficial for you in so many different situations. It can be beneficial because of the fact that you can finish different things in a short amount of time, which can then create time for you to do some other jobs or to even relax which can be great for you. The best thing to do is to multi-task the short and easy jobs and then keep the harder and longer jobs for later which you can then put all your concentration into

I usually do multitasking at work. Apart from the medical work I'm doing, I also attend to some other paper works which is quite stressful. It's really hard to do multitasking and it's not really recommended because you need to focus on one job at the same time in order for your work to have good results but if you do multiple work at the same time, the output would be a disaster.

I think you have done a very instructive example of one of the many scenarios involving multiple-task activities (because the field is really very wide). People have to be very well prepared (psychologically speaking) to face this kind of challenge.

The mind can give a knot difficult to be untied, haha.

I think that all of us, in this fast-paced economy and culture, worldwide, for the most part, must get accustomed to multi-tasking. I can't remember the last time I completed one large task without doing many small tasks in between or during completing it. I make lists of things that I need to get done every day, and I use smaller tasks to pace myself through the larger ones. For example, if I need to grade 50 papers, I can get burned out after about 25 of them in a row, So, then I will stop and do two or three smaller tasks to refresh myself, and by refresh I mean I shift my thoughts to another place so I come back tot he grading world with a fresh perspective again. I thought that this short video really sums up a good discussion of the nature of multi-tasking:

Well, I think the human brain can't multi-tasks, so it's not really feasible to multi-task as a human being, but you might be doing two tasks sequentially, at the breakage of another, but that those not mean you're really multi-tasking. You are just combing two work duties on the same time range. Which I don't think is good for the health.

Multitasking really stress me but no choice but to deal with it at 5 A.m. in the morning I will start my household chores by preparing my Child breakfast, cooking her meal for lunch in school .Then after my child go to school I will start open my computer to do online job while cleaning rooms and at the same time will start to put dirty clothes in watching machine and other chores.Multi-tasking is real … we have to deal and adjust our time to be able to do all our responsibilities and obligation.

Sometime sit can't be helped honestly. I am not sure how to go about certain tasks without multi tasking. It is just the way to get things done I think. It is a way that you might need to get your work done unfortunately. It can be a problem however.

I can do multi-tasking if it is computer related job like developing a website, while doing some graphics stuff, or writing. And I can work a little bit faster when I'm under pressure. But of course it's not always the case. There are times that I'm stuck in job and code not do other things.

I totally fail at multitasking. I think its way better to focus on one project and see it though. Because if you can't give something your 100% focus it's going to end up failing in the long run and you're going to end up losing everything that you worked so hard on.

I'm not quite sure about this, but some scientific studies show that women's brains are more equipped to handle multi-tasking than men. I actually thrive in a multi-tasking environment and had been doing so for years. I have a lot in my plate and have to juggle between being a part time employee, freelance writer, freelance accountant, blogger, a small offline business owner, and a mom, I'm also running a household at the same time. I know it can be stressful but I enjoy shifting between roles and doing two or more tasks at the same time, For instance, I could be doing an e-book and at the same time talking to a vehicle repair guy or playing with my child in between. I could be home taking care of my child while doing freelance accounting work at the same time.

I find multi-tasking easy if I get a head start on one or two things. If you get the jump on a situation then your multi-tasking number gets cut in half. Juggling 2 or three tasks instead of 5 or 6. Also be sure to knock out the task you despise the most, first. Makes the other tasks a lot more pleasant.

I agree that it is better to do the hardest task first because it is like taking away the pain in the neck and your worries will also lessen. When you have 5 tasks to do and you first do the easiest then the fear of the hardest task will be on your mind and could disturb your concentration and doing a good job for the easiest task. In my todo list, I always prioritize the tasks so I have a work plan on how to go about my work for the day.

I used to be like this kind of person. I have worked overseas and most of the time I needed to focus nor only in my work but also with my staffs. I had to double check what they were doing if it was right. I believe that multitasking is something gifted to a person who has unique attention and skills.
