Blogs / Websites with diverse niches or an exclusive one?

What woulb be your choice and why?
For me, things always work better (and more organized) when they are discussed by unique categories. It's clear that the niche doesn't have to be so rigid that it can't offer ramifications but that it's something that keeps the essence of the blog / website intact. In this way, everything becomes easier to read, understand and be discussed.

I'd like to have a combination of both. I currently only have one site because I wasn't able to pay my old web host on time and I didn't backup all my sites. I made a new website in a new web host. The website I have currently caters to a huge niche (Business). Later on, I intend to create a lot highly targeted niche websites and interrelate them through my current website that is generally about business.

I recommend that you have a couple of websites that caters to a diverse niche and lots of websites that target different small niches. You'll need to have sufficient funds to do this but the returns would be great.

I don't like a niche site, I have tried it before and sometimes I run out of what to write and it was appalling.

I believe with diverse niches one will be able to write on different things and writing on different things means you'll hardly run out of ideas and it wouldn't be boring.

This is so true for blogs. You can categorize your topics if you want to so that readers may have a lead to your articles. But with a business website, I think having one niche with sub categories is a lot better at promoting your goods.

That’s also my plan in the near future, to have my own site for blogging and for e-commerce but I want it to be on 1 domain only to save on expenses. I have been evaluating the costs and the potential income from that site that I hope my estimated numbers are correct. If that happens then I can earn good money that maybe can be my livelihood when I retire from my office job.

I think if you are planning to earn money from the blog. You should start with one blog. And then take one blog at a time and improve your system. You can see that there are times when the diverse niches do help. But make sure to get one site working at a time. And then go for multiple sites because traffic and the monetization part is not an easy task to manage.

Some niche bloggers increase the traffic on their one site and earn specific threshold then invest into another site. That's how many people are earning money these days.

I have a niche site and since I don't really have much time to spend on my site I consider having a niche is a better idea. I know that it will be difficult for me to concentrate on different niches. The reason why I chose that particular niche for my site is that I really like that topic and I always have ideas flowing. The problem however is that due to my lack of time I can write articles only twice or thrice per week.

I belong to the unique niche team and this question about lack of time is something that is very interesting because time really makes all the difference.

Working with multiple niches requires more attention, more care and... Much more time.

I think that it's better to have a website exclusive to a niche and not just a bunch of things all thrown together. If you have too many different things on a single website, it will be very hard for you to actually focus and find your target audience. It will be too wide. Also, the visitors might feel confused about what your site is about.

But if you're talking about owning several different sites then it's fine to have diverse niches since they're all separated and therefore each one plays its own role.

I totally agree with you.

By the way, I belong to the team that supports the idea of using only one niche because everything is clearer and simpler to be understood / discussed.

The confusion caused by many niches can keep visitors away.

A niche site as I see it is simply another word for an expert site. IF you branch off into too many niches, unless you are truly an expert in a lot of areas. I think you run the risk of being viewed as a fraud or a phoney. It is just one of the things you might consider.

I agree with you.

Knowing how to deal with various niches requires a type of skill that isn't appropriate for all types of people (it's a very peculiar kind of skill). Although many people think they know how to deal with it, many of them don't really know.

I think its better to work on a single blog until it starts to make money and if/when it does I would only consider a second blog if you can keep up the quality of the content on the first blog. Otherwise you're going to end up losing readers and before you know it your not going to be making any money again.

This is the reason I like reading from those that already have a blog. One thing some of us that are willing to go into blogging haven't come to know is that having a multipurpose blog can backfire especially if the owner do not have the experience of managing blogs before. Focusing on a niche at a time can help to bring out the popularity of the blogs towards that industry it is targeting.

I think the exclusive niche is better. For example, you have a blog where you publish everything from games, SEO to recipes, crocheting, and gardening. can you tell me who are your readers? Do you think a person interested only in gaming will subscribe to your blog that also has articles on crocheting?

You're right on this, I mean having a blog on a particular niche such as games can help gamers to link up with the blog easily and have less distractions locating the information they desire from there as well.

Unless your blog is a personal blog where you publish personal stories and random articles, your blog shoulf have one niche. You may publish on related niche, for instance in your blog on wellness niche, you can also publish posts on wellbeing and alternative healing. However, you should never mix with unrelated niches. gaming and cooking do not match. You need to avoid this.

Mixing niches can work better for those that have had the experience of running blogs or being moderators in blogs in the past. Trying to run a diverse blog can bring back negative results especially when there is no planned background of the blog homepage that can help visitors see where to read the information they're looking for.

It’s not easy to choose between one niche versus several. I know of some bloggers with just one blog and some with several blogs who tell me that passive income is best when you have several blogs with different niches. But maybe having several blogs is not easy to handle especially when you have different niches. It looks like you will lose your focus and the quality of blogs will go down. I will settle for just 1 blog and concentrate on it. At least I can maintain the quality of the blogs there.
