To start making money on a new website/blogs, there is need to try to understand how SEO works, which stands for search engine optimization. Drawing traffic to your website/blog is very important while you're starting out and that would depend on the quality of the content you write on your sites/blogs. You can't write poor articles and expect your visitors to come back again. So, with the increased traffic would bring about some companies wanting to advertise their sites on your blogs and that way, you can make money out of it.

I have a friend who started blogging recently. From what I heard she is having a problem with visitors because she had already posted in social media but the traffic is still very few. Now she is planning to invite me to lunch so she can consult me on the matter. I am thinking of what to tell her because I don’t want to give information for free. It’s not really the money that I am thinking but it is unethical to get a free ride while I am breaking my back in trying to learn SEO methods

I've had several websites over the years... but I remember that for my very first one, it took quite a while. I think around 4-5 months is when I started making some money. Then when I realized how to build a website and properly draw traffic to it, I had a much easier time making a profit and it was faster. For my last blog that I still currently run it took me a few weeks, just enough to get AdSense approved and doing affiliate.

Some niches can be harder to make a fast profit though and require more time, it depends.

I am only a few months into it myself, and it is definitely going pretty slowly. I am hoping that I, like you did, improve and learn how to better conduct my freelancing business. I need the extra income, and, plus, I have been putting tons of work into my projects, so I would very much hate it if all of that work just went down the drain with no significant profit. I have not yet branched into affiliate marketing yet, and I would need to do a lot of research in that area before I would feel comfortable doing so.

You should definitely consider getting into affiliate marketing. Especially if you pick products that you can promote or review on your website - that will boost your sales quite a lot because people will prefer buying things. Just make sure not to be overly pushy and definitely research it a bit How long did it take to start making a profit on your blog or website?

My blog is still very new, its yet to start making a good profit but it took about 7-8 months to start having tangible income daily,I know I'm getting there, at least it no longer where it used to be, the blog is really progressing, we will get there soon.

Yes, I think that understanding the basics of SEO and keyword research goes along way to helping you to monetize your blog or website. I think too many people forget that, and just hope to start making money off the bat when it really isn;t that easy for most people to do. It is a process like anything else.

I remember my first website was a sort of general place where people could just hang around. I actually never made anything from it but that wasn't a huge problem for me because of the fact that I had used a free domain and free hosting. The first ever site I made a profit on took me a little while (maybe around 3-4 months) but I think it took that long because I wasn't as experienced and made a lot of mistakes. I did not promote my site too much back then either which was a huge mistake. How long it takes to start making a profit can depend on a lot of things but as long as the content on your blog or website is good then you will eventually start to make a decent amount.

Yes, I guess content is key or king, no matter how you choose to look at it. I mean people are not going to keep coming back to a site they don't enjoy but as long as they feel they are getting value on the site, they are likely to come back. They may click on your ads, buy your product or whatever your goal is.

I can not tell you how many times in forums I have heard or seen the comment "content is king"--and it is so true. That is the key--have what the audience wants to keep them coming back. They definitely won't click on your ads if they are not showing up in the first place, of course.

Well, the honest answer to your question is that, so far, I am really not making much money at my blog. I know from talking to others that it can take years to do this; however, I sure it happens for me, somehow, much sooner than this! I am considering the fact that I am in the middle of a big learning curve, so I am trying to be patient. I've had a little money come in from AdSense, but it is so little I would not even post the amount here out of abject self-humiliation. However, the alternative is that I give up, anf then I definitely won't make any money in these ventures. I reckon perseverance is the key in this market.

It is I think and just continuing to take good advice from people who are in it and have had success. It is just one of the ways to continue to learn and to grow. As you know more, hopefully your blog will continue to grow as well. It is one of the almost certainties of life I think.

My blog is yet to be in profit. I am still hitting the 20 cents a day into the adsense. And it has never gone beyond that. I have few other articles on other site earning in. But it has yet to make something serious. So on that basis I'd say that it's not going to be any easy to make some serious money for me. I have to make sure that I am adding the backlinks and the promoting the content on regular basis.

Social media traffic is good on my site. But the earning seems to be taking more time. And I have to work on the small things to make them work. I guess affiliate earnings take time for things to properly settle. That's the thing about the website that I have yet to manage.

I don't think you are alone at all in making little to no money on your site. I think originally everybody touted blogging as a way to get rich online, when in reality most people who blog make enough for a cup of coffee per day instead of a substantial income. However, I guess if you devote the time to it, and know what you are doing you can make more for sure..as some here are.

I am guessing my fault is not monetizing properly with the affiliate links. And that is what is causing the issue with the links in the blog post. You can see that the issue with the affiliate marketing is that it may not always work out. So I have to find out the balance between the both ads and the affiliate links. So hopefully that does work out.

You almost just described my blog and website experience so far exactly. I get traffic, mainly from social media, from what I can tell, but no one is clicking on the ads; although, they are reading and commenting about the content. This is such a slow-going process. I know I won't make a LOT of money doing this, but I sure would like to see a lot more than what I am getting so far!

It takes weeks for me when I started earning from my forum from the traffic I get from the members and from the free advertising I made from other forums as well but still I only earn a few pennies only, not that big enough to sustain a website/blog.

Yes, making pennies at least at first seems to be the experience of most people. This is sad to say. I think this is unfortunately the way most of us experience the online earning world. It is just one of those things that you might experience when you are getting the options you need.

The road is the same for everyone, but the problem is that most people who try to make money online expect the road to be always easy and fast. The result of this is that many people don't try hard enough and end up giving up for lack of motivation.

Well, it didn't actually take me much time to start making money, and I think that it's because I have mostly everything setup for me already. But most people that earn massively today, it took them time before they earned their first money on their site, so it requires patient, because in most cases the money won't flood in like that.

It will all depend on your effort to make the thing work because success won't build by itself. The reason some people achieve fast-track profitability depends on how committed they are to their ideas.

Think, plot your strategy and work hard until you are satisfied. How long did it take to start making a profit on your blog or website?

It took me around 6 months and at the time I was in a very tight group of bloggers so I was hearing all kinds of stories on when people started getting paid. I heard that a few of the top ones in my group started getting ad revenue almost straight away around a month or two, and they pretty much attributed their success to the uniqueness of their content, which after seeing their sites I couldn't really argue with since the content really was pretty original and catchy so I understood why they were so popular even early on. I think just having a good knack for writing and making your content feel organic and fun can help a lot with speeding up the profits, but also at the same time, I think it's also good to not obsess over it too much, as some types of sites will always tend to need more time to ramp up.

Hi, I'm just new in blogging so probably I'm not earning yet doing a blog. I'm just about to figure it out for myself. But for my opinion, if you create good contents on your website or blogs, you could earn from your blogs in a short period of time. If you give valuable contents to your reader then possibly you can convert them to a potential customers once you offer something relevant to them. Blogging is just a tool to earn profits from what other business or products you are promoting. Or if you have a digital product that you want to sell, it increases the change that people will buy from you if through your blogs you made them trust and believe in you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well yes, but I think you have to attract readers or viewers to your site in particular. If they have an interest in a special or certain product, why should they buy it from you as opposed to other people? I think you have to establish yourself as an authority and also a confidant of sorts so people want to buy from you.

Let's be honest with each other here! Probably 98%+ of the websites on the internet don't make any money. And out of that 2% that do make money 98% of those websites don't make enough money to make a living. What kills me is people make ebooks saying "Look I am making $10,500 a month off of blogs. Buy my ebook and I will tell you how.

When in fact his blogs don't make crap it's made up numbers and he just wrote basic knowledge that you can find anywhere on google. And in fact he might be making $10,500 on his blog, notice I did say blog and not blogs. And the $10,500 a month blog is fools paying $29.99 for his ebook. So in closing if your getting into blogs in hopes of getting rich be prepared to be very disappointed!

At first it was very difficult for me to attract people to my site. I then created a Facebook page and starting advertising about my blog. Gradually I was able to increase the traffic to my blog. It took more than a year before I was successful. I also started writing quality content with catchy titles. Managing a blog is not easy. If you want to be successful then you must dedicate must time to your blog. That's my opinion.

Yes, I would tend to agree with you Pixie. I don;t think you can expect to make a killing in your field or niche without dedicating the type of time and advertising you need for your blog. It is just one of the choices that you need to make. Manage your blog in the correct way and dedicate time to it, and you might have the choices that you need.

I don't have my own website or blog site yet I make a few dollars writing on other owners' sites. This is just my part time to relieve me from stress. I might go hardcore on it in the future when I already have the time in the world to dwell on it full time.

When I launched my blog, I monetized it with Amazon Ads and Adsense. My first commission from Amazon came in three months of blogging and my first Adsense was in the first month. I earned $4 from Amazon and 10 cents from Adsense.

When I was co-blogging, it took a year before the blogger earned from Adsense. Yeah, it’s only Adsense that I know about monetizing a blog or website. But I know of a blogger who is earning more than $750 in a month because of the high traffic that her blog gets. She is in fashion and most of the time she is featuring a celebrity. I think those celebrities are giving her blog a good number of added traffic. Maybe if I would have a blog with that kind of traffic, I could retire in peace.

I got my first profit from a sale 7 days after site completion. I pocketed a $5 income on that first sale. The conversation came from traffic that I directed to my site from Facebook. In my opinion the easiest and fastest way of getting your first sale is by tapping your existing social media accounts.
