Eating while working is probably bad habit and bad for health too, but i heard that many people need it for better concentration while working. Hmm... Not good, specially if it's not balanced with good exercise after such work. I don't eat while work, but i spend too many hours seating, so i usually going twice a day for fast walk along river to move my muscles, relax my eyes and mind. It's really necessary for every freelancer, because many of us working long hours to make our customers happy, maintain our social media presence and other things...

You definitely said the key word here--BALANCE. When i started working primarily from home, I definitely noticed a negative reaction from my waistband, if you know what I mean. I love walking, and I live in a scenic area, so I try to go for two walks a day to keep my metabolism going, and I avoid snacking and eating while sitting around working on the computer.

And I think I may need a little bit of balance too. I've been freelancing for some time, and working from home is taking its quote. Honestly, I have more time to do healthy cooking, and go to organic markets, but when you remain home, you can become even more lazy than what you were. I think I need to take those walks you talk about, or begin to use my stable bike again.

I just told my daughter recently that its bad manners to use her smartphone while eating. We don't have problem with this before since we don't have smartphones yet when we were little. I teach my daughter to stop using her cellphone whenever she eats.

This is true. Eating with your computer is a bad habit. It will make you unhealthy. If your working, you must work. If your eating you must also eat. It needs not be mixed.

We must not mix our eating and working in front of the computer. The two must be separated. They must not go together. One task should be done without the other. Be single minded and not double minded.

I couldn't agree more to this. Eating while working is definitely a bad habit. It is not good for your health and for yourself to overwork. Don't forget that it's ok to take a pause to pamper or reward yourself for all of your hardworks.

I don't eat while I am on the computer. I am often taking a break when I make something to eat and then consume it. I don't think I would be able to concentrate too much if I was on the laptop. It is something I need to concentrate on and think about when I am online. It is something that I don't think would work if I was eating at the same time.

Sure its bad and to most people they have made it part of them and also allowing it to be part of them is the main problem towards that, because at first they will know its a bad habit but when work gets more interesting that bad habit will be a good habit to them..

So OP it matters ok? They are kind of work that you will be doing, that you will not have time to eat outside your screen.

I agree that eating while working or behind a computer is a very bad habit. I am guilty of it as well. I just can't help it sometimes. I feel like if I nimble on something that my brain gets more focused. It is probably just because I have gotten used to it.

I know that it is bad and that I should be trying to reduce it but it isn't easy when you have been doing it for years. I never eat proper meals behind my computer though. Only snack type of food.

I don't have a problem nibbling on things as much as I have an issue with drinking way too much coffee while I am working. I get pretty amped out on caffeine at times, and that is also not healthy for anyone at all. The impulse to snack comes with freelancing territory, I'd say. It's just too convenient when you are alone and pounding away at the keyboard.

I have this habit. And I have gained a lot of weight due to this habit. And working harder to get rid of this habit. Hopefully this habit changes. And I can manage to reduce the weight. But it's also possible that I have to do some exercise. And that can be another thing to watch out for when you are gaining weight. You have to exercise and then focus on reducing the weight. Working and eating adds up to your eating routine.

Personally .I think eating while on the computer depends on the type of thing eaten.Most times I tend to concentrate better if I have my peanuts with me while working or just sipping my chill juice while working.I think the bad habit which is taking your breakfast,lunch or dinner while working away.In the first place, it isn't even convenience because you might get choked.Food should be taken devoids of other activities.

Some people find it comforting to eat snacks of their choosing. I guess anything light is fine. It's not as if it'll slow you down. It can even improve your mood if you choose the right kind of food.

I concur that it's a bad habit because depending on the type of food that you are eating, it could result in damage to the computer. Liquid spilt on the device could pose a problem but in spite of knowing that we may do it anyway. I don't believe in attributing weight gain to the act of eating around the computer because many of us would probably be eating in a similar manner elsewhere. We all know the drill. If we are using the computer continuously day for hours at a time, we should try to ensure that we try to get the requisite break and activity to keep us from getting computer-related ailments and to keep our body fit and healthy.

This is definitely a bad habit and I am happy that I don't have such a habit. I am currently on diet and makes sure that I eat only three meals everyday. I try my best to avoid snacking. I don't take my meals in front of my computer. I know that this is something very unhealthy to do.

I used to eat while working before and I admit it's really a bad habit. There are times when I have no choice but to eat while working because I am sometimes bombarded with tedious tasks that have short deadlines. I even experienced working while eating breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, literally all meals. Another reason why eating while working is bad is because your food might accidentally be spilled on your computer which will obviously damage the unit. To be honest, I'm not really happy about it. I was able to stop this bad habit when I left employment for good. I am free to eat with my family now. It's indeed enjoyable to savor hearty meals without and focus on it.

I also agree that this is a bad habit, and if you are sitting in front of a computer all day and not getting proper exercise, eating while working is a double attack on one's health. I set myself regular lunch and refreshment breaks, just like any nine to five job would, so that I am not tempted to graze all day or snack too much while I work at my online writing and teaching jobs. It can be tempting, but like every thing else in this freelancing business, discipline is the utmost requirement. Also, who wants to screw up their keyboard with crumbs, fodder, or liquid damage.

I am guilty but sometimes I just can't help it. I feel more comfortable when I eat snacks when I am in front of my computer. But that doesn't happen often though. And I don't do heavy meals on my desktop, it's just not..healthy to do. So yeah, sometimes I eat small time foods or snacks on my desktop. Eating while working is a bad habit

I agree, everybody has this kind of habit that you can't even control. I know that it's bad but it feels good at the same time. And I think the side effect of this one, is you, not really savoring the flavor of the food you eat because you focus more on the laptop, like when you are watching a movie. You tend to focus more on the movie rather than the flavor or the dish that your mom have cooked.

I think eating while doing something always looked disrespectful to the elderly. They say that we should respect the food in front of us. But in a practical reason, we had to do some work while eating to save some time. In today's world, we all want to be productive and we are required to be good at multitasking.

I am doing the same thing. Sometimes, we are just in a hurry that's why we eat snacks in front of the computer. I just think that it is the most practical way to do to maximize the time. I always to this because I always catch the time and wanting to do more stuff in a day. I just want to accomplished more things in just a day. I wanted to be rich someday that's why I am doing this. Honestly, while writing in this forum, I am eating just to save time.

WIthout a doubt, I agree with your article. Sadly, I'm also a victim of bad eating habits such as eating while working. Sometimes, I get so caught up in my work projects, that I don't take breaks for hours at a time. Before I know it, it's time for lunch or dinner time. Most of the time, I don't like breaking the flow I'm in. Because of this, I'll take my meals to my computer or laptop. It's a habit I know I need to consciously break.

Yes it is a bad habit and unhealthy for the digestive system too. I do not eat while I work online. I do not want my laptop keyboard to fill up with crumbs or spills. I rather shut down my laptop, take my meals quickly and concentrate on blogging later. You need to eat at ease, do not think while you eat and do not pause for 10 minutes before continue eating. The digestive system could not figure out what you are up to.

I never eat while working, I either eat first and then work or work and eat later; I can't even think of doing that simultaneously I would not concentrate on the work I am doing for sure plus it's not healthy to eat while you are doing something else, So yes It is a very bad habit to eat while working.

Hahahaha, i can't stop laughing you really got me there, the funny thing here is that am eating as am reading this your post. and the worst thing is that it has become a part of me and should i say an addiction that can no longer be immunized in the long range of things. what am saying is that many people, up to 80% of internet workers eat in front of their computer while stroking the keyboards as they eat and this is really a big problem, if this bad habit has any side effect because i myself has already fallen into the shackles of it. LOL, i don't think i will ever stop eating in front of my laptop, except am out of my comfort zone. because most of my life is spent in front of my laptop except when am sleeping and i don't really see anything bad in it though, seriously. as long as bad habits don't kill, am cool with eating and stroking the keyboards.

Instead of thinking of it as a bad habit I think of it as multi-tasking. If you're ever working on something that requires you to create something and then you feel hungry, going to eat elsewhere might make you lose your train of thought. If you simply eat while you're working (which won't be that bad if you're not a messy person) you can kill two birds with one stone. Not particularly sure what makes working while eating that much more unhealthy than eating minus the working.

Thankfully I don't have this habit, I don't eat when I am working. I don't even carry my food to my working chamber. I always eat in the right place i.e. dining table. However, I drink when I am working, I drink water, tea, coffee or juice. I drink a liter of water in every two hours. When I am not drinking water, I will be drinking coffee.

But I do drink tons of coffee. I guess that is bad too. However, I discovered one thing. One time I ran out of coffee and I always drink something while working. That time, I was too lazy to go out and buy coffee so what I did is have my coffee mug and a 2 liter bottle of water with me. As I go on working, I realized that I don't really need the coffee. What I need is the act of drinking something. In this case, water. So I consumed my water in no time and then I realized with coffee, that's how much caffeine I am consuming. So after that, I just make 2 cups worth of coffee in my coffeemaker for a day and the rest is just plain water.

I don't eat at my computer or while I work unless it's at my full time job and I absolutely have to get something done over my lunch break. Usually by dedicated my break to working, or working while I eat, I'll take off early another day during the week to make up for it (since I'm not allowed to exceed 40 hours without consent). Or I'll leave an hour early for the day to get some errands done.

But if you eat at your computer consistently, I suppose that could definitely turn into a bad habit, especially if it's make you become less social. I grew up in a household where mealtimes were a time for us to catch up with the family and spend time together. Our dining room never had a television either, so our dinners revolved around conversation. I guess that aspect of my childhood has followed me while I've grown up, too!

I used to do it, but not anymore. That was part of the plan my physician helped me with. When you are in the PC, or watching TV, you tend to focus on what you are doing or watching, and don't realize the big amount of snacks and food you are eating. Also, I was used to eat junk food while working. Right now, I get or cook healthier food, like salads, grilled chicken, organic soups, and I try to focus on enjoying the meal, chew it well, take my time to eat. The whole point is to give the meal the proper time and attention.

I had to because I got sick. My family has had very bad feeding habits all their lives, and of course that's what I've learned since I was a kid. So, it took a lot of time and effort to change my habits, and it wasn't easy because I was used to eat without any control. Right now, I'm trying to make small changes on my family, so they can live and eat in a healthier way.

Well, certainly I hope so. Changing habits is a challenge, and when you come from a large time of using those, is even worse. I've used this experience, to let people know that anybody can do it, it does require a lot of personal commitment, but the results worth it.

Eat and Work are major 2 works for daily life. Every body should need to take proper food and every body should need to do work properly. So when I shall eat I will eat properly. When I shall work- I shall work appropriately. This is a bad behavior to do 2 works together. In this way none of any work stay as an appropriate.

I'm not sure why it would be unhealthy to be honest with you because eating at a computer doesn't really change the food. If the food is actually unhealthy then I can see why it would be like that but otherwise, I don't see the connection. I don't really eat food at my computer anyway, mainly because I don't want any of the food to actually go on my computer because it gets annoying having to clean it.

I don't like eating while working because I find it too distracting and I prefer to just eat at the table afterwards. Still, because I do work in front of the computer most of the day, I do tend to be physically inactive most of the time and I realize that it is very unhealthy. I am planning on correcting this habit soon after I get my initial plans into gear and I am a little less pressured and stressed.

Sometimes you can't help it. This is especially true for those who are tied to their respective work places. But if you want, there's always a way to avoid it. Having fresh juice instead of whole foods can be great substitute.

I definitely agree with you that it's a bad habit. I may watch television or my favorite YouTube show while eating, but I never eat and work at the same time. When I'm working, that means that I am completely focused on what I'm working on. That is the only way that you can do your best. If you're watching something in the background, or eating, or doing anything else really, you already aren't giving it your 100% best, and that will ultimately show in the final product. Do your work, take a lunch break, and then get back to it. Eating and working at the same time helps no one.

I never eat at the computer because I don't want crumbs all over the place. And I don't want to risk spilling water and wrecking something. And worse yet I don't want to get food or water on what ever I am working on. And to be honest it only takes 15 minutes out of your day to eat and avoid all of those problems.

True! It's super disgusting to see all those crumbs and rests of food all over your laptop or PC. Also, all of them will bring insects to your gadgets, and sure you don't want that to happen. My cousin lost a very expensive desktop by spilling apple juice on it. You know, gaming, getting excited, leveling up, and lunch, equals big mess all over the place.

You are right. It's a bad habit . I try not to do it but I fall in temptation once in a while with some snacks, specially for the mid-morning snack. I don't snack in the afternoon. I just wait for dinner instead... If you don't concentrate in eating your brain and stomach don't actually feel like you ate and you tend to eat more than when you take the time to eat and just do that. Also is a bad habit eating in front of the TV or do any other activity apart from eating while you eat for the same reason...

I'm guilty with this too. I know its a bad habit to eat while working on computer or watching TV but I can't help it. I mostly snacks while watching TV. We all do it, watching TV while eating popcorns. But I make sure to eat the proper meals in the dinning table. I'm only guilty eating snacks while facing computer and TV.

It happened to me before. What I did to avoid it was I eat before doing something in front of the computer.I made myself full so that I would not tempting to eat while working. I think eating habit while working is really not good. The company has certain rule and meal breaks that needs to be follow by their employees and they should do it.

I can see how it's a bad habit. They do say that you are likely to gain weight when you are not paying full attention to your food and are distracted while eating. Besides, it can get messy for your workspace to have food around it. I only eat during brakes, but not on my workspace itself.

I also only eat during breaks. I am glad to not have fallen into this temptation. I like the fact that eating in the computer lab is not allowed in school. So I never dare to do so even at home.

Eating while working on the computer is a bad habit for more than one reason. Firstly you could spill food on your computer and destroy your meal and your computer! secondly, I like to wash my hands a lot. I don't like the idea of touching my keyboard and mouse and touching my food, just doesn't go together. My food demands my full attention, plus my hands must be super clean to touch my food. It's a good idea to take a break from the computer and grab something to eat. This gives your body and mind a good rest and allows you to revive and return refreshed for the next round. In fact you may probably get more work done and at a higher quality if you factor in a few well needed breaks to eat or perhaps just to take a walk and relax before delving into an extended work session. The idea is to work smarter not harder so as to produce the best results.

Your answers are very true. I too have difficulty combining these two things. And I probably won't. I mostly limit myself to drinks. And I don't place them near my computer. I'm careful to not spill anything near my workplace.

That is one good advice that you said about taking a break to eat something. You can refresh your mind when you eat away from the computer and it is better to think of something else while eating instead of focusing on your work. Our high school teacher said that you may develop indigestion when you eat while working. That’s not to mention that you can mess up the computer particularly when you spill your drink.

Especially if you eat at the computer, the whole table will be dirty. When I see a person eating a hamburger at a laptop, I get goosebumps, and when a person sits eating an apple or the like, I want to smile.
