Widgets for your blog

Hi, I would like to add something to my blog page but I don't know which widgets could be useful. I was thinking of a preview of some motivational playlist on Spotify but I don't have any other ideas. What would you suggest?

Alexa widget is not much useful. In fact it is more or less waste of resource. people only use it for the traffic display and fake rank. Because only the people with rank are those who have widget. I'd instead use the instagram or the twitter widget. Because those are much more effective on that note.

For Wordpress I recommend:

Contact Form 7
Disqus Comment System
Jetpack by WordPress.com
Lightweight Social Icons
Social Warfare
WordPress Popular Posts
Yoast SEO

Can you explain the plugin "social warfare". Are you using it for anything specific? I heard about the plugin. But not much experience. Also not have plans to try unless someone vouch for it. Is it good for the blog or any other specific usage?

Some of these are plugins. There is slight difference between plugin and widget.
My favorite widget is " Footer Credit Remover." I am not a programer therefore I cannot remove code that removes footer credits from free themes, however, I can use this widget to remove footer credits. "Header footer script elementer" is my another favorite widget. This widget helps me ad widget to header and footer even if my theme do not support this.

I think often widgets can take people away from the setup. So that is one more reason i personally prefer to add only the analytics widget. I also add the recent post and recent comments widget. In that context, I'd say those are definitely worth going for as well. So you may want to make use of the widgets such as this here.

I really enjoy that one that gives information about the traffic that you receive, like a number of viewers and respective country locations.

I have a few good widgets on my WordPress, I use a mixture of recent posts to categories. I also paste the code 3 times on a post, one at the top and middle of post and bottom.

I would add widgets that show the rankings and hits for the blog, but I would NOT recommend adding a Spotify music player on your site if you want your readers to concentrate on reading your content. I know songs may be related to the content of your blog but they can easily distract your viewers from getting the point of your posts.

I think it depends on what specifically your blog is about... is it more about fun, entertaining subjects or what? It's hard to suggest things unless you are more specific with your information. For example; if you're focusing on news reporting then I won't suggest widgets that are ''funny'' since that wouldn't fit the blog.

Also, you should ask yourself which widgets have you seen other people use on their blogs that you found good? And then simply try to find out the name of those widgets.

But here's a short list of some interesting ones worth checking out:
- different clocks; like the world clock, different countries,
- RSS feed;
- quotes widget; it shows different quotes every day.

I am using wordpress and blogger dot com. Most of the widgets available are almost duplicates. So, choose the ones that you would prefer to click when you are reading other people's blog. Then you will know what are the widgets you needed for your own blog or website.

Get the basic widgets and plug-ins like the search bar, the owner information widget, or some widget links for your other stuffs. Also don't put up a lot of widgets that would discourage visitors to stay longer on your blog. Try to keep it a minimal. Widgets for your blog

I read somewhere that Google discourages use of certain types of widgets because they create “artificial traffic signals” or they look “spammy”. I'm not saying don't use widgets because some of them are really good. I'm just saying be careful with the widgets you choose for your blog.

Additional comments:
I borrowed this idea from another blogger. This can be used if you have a Blogspot (or Blogger) blog. On the sidebar use two Posts widgets. It's the same widget, just used 2 different ways. For one widget, display your most popular for the past month or week. Take that same widget and display the most popular posts for all time. Once a reader reads your current post, they may glance over to see what other posts visitors may have found interesting. This might help keep folks at your blog exploring it.

You might also try to create a widget using Feedgrabbr.

I think there are a number of great widgets out there. One I used to like was a traffic counter and also a little graph of showing where people were coming from that viewed my site. Both of them were instructive and useful as far as I was concerned. I haven't put either of them on my current blog however.

I haven't checked them lately but Feedjit used to have some really good widgets you could include on your blog. They were where I got some of the bells and whistles that I used on my former blogs but maybe Google doesn't like these types of widgets anymore. I am not really sure what their policy is on the use of Feedjit and other counters of that type.

I try to keep the contents on my widgets as simple as possible. Currently I only have 3 widget blocks on my sidebar:
  • A random poll - I think this ads a bit of interactivity to my site. I like my site to be interactive in order to extend the time of the visitors on my site.
  • Popular posts - this could increase the chances of visitors to stay on the site much longer by showing them some of the more popular posts on my blog.
  • Adsense Ad - I also put an adsense skyscraper on my sidebar in order for my site to earn a bit of money.
That's it! I'm planning to add a chatbot on my sidebar too. What do you think? Widgets for your blog

This thing is new to me because I am not into technical. To be honest, I have encountered widgets, kernels and plug-ins but I really couldn’t understand the difference. Anyway, I am still in the learning stage about this technical matter and I guess I have enough information from the comments above that could explain about the widget. By the way, I used to be a blogger and I have plans of having my own blog so this topic is relevant to my future activities.
