Different emails for different purposes?

A lot of websites that I have come across have different email addresses for different purposes. For example, they may have a special email for press related queries ([email protected]) or a support email ([email protected]). I understand the need for this when you are a large company and have different departments. But do you really need different emails when you are a small business or a newly created website? The problem with different emails is that you need to constantly check each and every email unless you setup an email client. Do you have different email addresses for different purposes?

I think different email addresses help you direct your email to the most appropriate person to deal with your problem. I would rather have a few different emails to choose from if I have a question, problem or complaint. It helps to have these options when communicating with an agency.

I agree. It really helps direct your email to the most appropriate person to deal with the customers problem. If they have queries, you can use different email for that. If you have troubles, you can also create a different email for that. It also looks professional if you have various emails to answer various concerns. But, if you are a small company, I guess it's not really necessary to have different emails. One will do.

I'm not a business owner, but if I were, I would use separate emails, even if it was a one person operation. Having lots is bad, because it complicates things for users, but having a few would be helpful, because having them separated is like having them sorted. This allows you to more easily prioritize email responses by type.

For example, some business websites have a separate email for purchases (eg: "purchases@domain"). Why? Because it helps them quickly respond to emails that are from potential new customers. You've got to scoop them up fast, before they turn to another business with a faster response.

For example, many file hosting sites have a separate email for DMCA complaints (eg: "dmca@domain"). Why? Because they need to respond to those emails quickly, so they don't get sued. They may also be able to use it to automate file blocks to prevent further downloads, until the email has been read.

For example, many sites have a no-reply email for sending information (eg: "no-reply@domain"). Why? Because it allows you to send receipts, and other information to a customer without inviting a conversation, which you would need to take time to reply to.

For example, many sites have a newsletter email for sending promotions (eg: "newsletter@domain"). Why? Because it allows you to send out newsletters to massive quantities of people without them responding, or expecting a response from you.

Having separate emails also helps customers sort your emails which, can be a good thing, or a bad thing.

Yes, using different emails for different purpose is a wise step to avoid spam emails or junk emails. I have a special email address for paypal, solely for this purpose only. As for PTC sites, survey sites, writing online sites and forum sites, I have an email at gmail for this purpose. I have another email address for vouchers, promotions, offers from branded outlets. Hence, I don't get all the junk emails in my important email address. Do you know I have 999 emails all junk mails in my gmail address??

I admit that I have several emails with purposes for each. First is my official email in the office, I call it my professional email. Second is my personal email that I use for personal transactions particularly for our travels. Then I have the email for miscellaneous that I use for purposes of social media and others not falling under personal or professional. At least the emails are segregated and easier to locate when I need to check on something. By the way, I also create a folder for the year so I compile the emails there - for example, a folder named 2016 contains all the emails I received in that year.

Yes, that is true. I'm using a different email address for every site I'm on. I'm doing this because it is much easy to track what is more important and what is needed to be done later. Besides in some cases some sites are not useful anymore and we don't lose our time with checking their email!

I think I too do this many times. I have one email for the work. And another email for the home. So this way I am supposed to keep the spam away. I have tried this method plenty of times. And so far it's working just fine. And also I have managed to keep the random emails away too. So it's good to sort emails.

While I don't technically run a business, I suppose in some sense I do, given that I am a freelancer. That being said, I absolutely do use multiple emails for different purposes. I like keeping everything nice and organized as it keeps my work far more efficient, and having multiple emails which filter and funnel different queries and requests is essential to remaining organized. I have all of my different emails organized through Microsoft Outlook so it really isn't that hard for me to keep track of everything. In fact, it is far easier than having everything go to a single box.

Thinking positively, the business won't be small forever.
By creating different email addresses it not only assists with following up on issues but makes the handing over process seamless in the future. It is never advisable to create emails with the persons name, rather their function. By doing that when staff changes do occur the entire history is available.

In my opinion, it helps to have several e-mails even when you are handling a small business. I think it helps you to sort the purpose of the sender. It is definitely problematic if you have to sort manually. This also helps you in case your business expands. You do not want business e-mails and personal e-mails to get mixed up together.

I have a lot of emails. I don't run a business, but I have an email for payments, an email that I use on sites that I don't trust, an email for social networks.. I use gmail on my phone and it's really easy to just switch accounts there. I also like to have everything organized and the app helps me in every way.

Hi there,
Thanks for your query. Yes! most of the website wanted to get support by different email. By mentioning specific email, people may get support confidently where he send email and what purpose he send email. For example: if he wants to get support by sell department, he may send to [email protected] or If client want to get support by customer care, he may send to [email protected]. So, it may different by purpose. That is not bad idea. On the other hand, google fix this problem if you use gmail. Gmail now supporting one email for all as services. You can merge email with each other as mail server. So, if you want to get all email to one email, you need to set up some simple option.

I think that it's almost a necessity to use separate emails or more than one, especially if you're a company or a business. It is much easier to divide the emails by use and to know what specifically the customers need if you have them set up for example; one for support and help purposes, one for selling, one for common questions and so on. You can then assign different workers to answer each individual emails.

But even if you don't own a company or run a business and you're a simple freelancer like me, I still believe that you should be using at least two emails. I have always been using one for personal things and one for work related issues. It's extremely simple to set up so every email you get, gets redirected to one single email address though... if that's what you want. But I don't do that. I just have them all logged in and I can switch by one click on the Gmail.

This was a good forum topic, I think. I do use different emails for different purposes, and one of my jobs, for security reasons alone, requires that I ONLY use its email for any dealings I have with "clients", etc. I have a personal email, of course, which I filter certain business through, but, for the most part, I use a gmail account for all of my blog correspondence and business. It can be a bit tedious keeping up with multiple accounts, but using different accounts for different specific purposes is smart, I think.

Yes I have different email accounts for different purposes. I use a generic gmail account for public use like forum registration, social media accounts etc. I have another email account I use for personal purposes.

I have several emails for various purposes. These different emails enable me to filter emails.I use some emails for work and others for personal communications.Small businesses can benefit from having several emails to handle various issues. This approach helps the business to focus on the most important business related emails while at the same time avoiding junk and spam emails.I would recommend small businesses to have several emails.

It is basically for redirecting those emails to the proper department to avoid spam and confusions. Companies and business establishments tend to have different departments such as careers or human resources, the manager or president, the press etc. It also depends on what type of company and establishment you are. Instead of having one person or the same people using the same company email, they use sub-emails for different email purposes. I hope you get my idea.

In the good old days when storage memory was limited I had opened several email accounts at different sites such as yahoo,, google and so on. I even had two emails per site. They have not been deleted but they have helped me make groups. I find them quite useful now.

Definitively, having different emails for different purposes has helped me to get a very organized use of mail. I used to have one single email, a mix of everything there, from job mails to social media notifications, so every time I was going to send an email it was confusing. Now, I have an email for my personals like taxes and ID issues, services related. Another one is for friends and social media like Facebook, Instagram, Telegram. There's a corporate one, for only job relations and employees. Some people may think is confusing, but in fact is a super comfy way to replied to everything and everybody.

I think it is actually a good thing to have different emails as this will prevent things from getting mixed up. For example, if you use the same email addresses for your suppliers and customers this may create some confusion. I think having different emails allow for better organization and if you ever need something specific it can be easily retrieved. You know exactly from which email you can actually retrieve the information.

As a small business owner myself and a one-man-band type of business owner, I have one email address specifically for all things work related and that's it. If my business were big enough to warrant having multiple employees and departments, then by all means I'd probably have separate emails for each department. However, this is not the case, and I'd rather have all of my business related emails (whether they're quotes, support, or complaint related) to all come to the same email address so I only have to worry about checking one inbox. I think this also makes sure that I don't miss any emails as well.

well, as a business owner, my personal and business emails are different.A lot of forums and blogs need one dropping his or her email and it not reasonable to leave one's personal or official email.
online because of hackers and spammers

I remember years back before I realize this, i do leave my personal email online and it was hacked.so I had to separate my emails.

have emails for different purposes.

I myself have a few different emails. They all serve different purposes. I am really kind of fed up with my hotmail email though, and think I am going to use that as a secondary email from now on. Using outlook and dividing all the mail into different categories is not that useful as far as I am concerned. They don't know what should be where. I am tired of having to look for things.

It is a good method to have separate emails for each purpose. My husband has the same method since he started using emails. In the beginning, he had 2 emails, one for the official which means it is the email for personal and business while the other one is for his testing which has a fake profile that he uses for surfing websites. I think he now has 7 emails because there was one for the Youtube videos, one for Facebook, etc.
