How much money to invest into a blog as a beginner ?

Hi, everyone. I am thinking of starting a blog. I have read that blog creation is pretty much free.
If I am planning to target a niche market such as gaming, there would be a need to purchase some games as content creation material.
What would be the optimum amount to get started for a couple of months ?
Your advice or suggestions are much welcomed.

I suggest that you get a web host so that you'll be able to get a professional looking domain name. I've looked up hostgator and found that they're giving a 60% discount if you subscribe for 36 months. You'll just pay 120 bucks and that will be enough for 3 years!

If you don't have the budget, you could go for maybe 3 months but you won't get any discount. I'm suggesting that you already get a paid web host because that's what we use when we are really serious about our online endeavors. If for instance you opt for a free hosting service and your gaming website will grow at a rapid rate, you'd still have to transfer it to a paid hosting service and that would be such a pain.

Again, if you're really serious about this, try to invest in a paid web host provider.

As a beginner you do not need to invest any dollar. You can simply start as a cost free method. If you are a native English speaker than you do not need to hire any article writer. You just need to become a good keyword researcher to start work with a specific niche. You cna regular new keyword list for niches related from google a d w o r d s program.

I invest less than 50$ per year into the blog. I have not earned much as of yet from it. But thinking of making use of the blog for the promotion of any possible type. I can't use much money on this. I guess this is because there are plenty of things to manage on that front. I think if one is planning to earn money from the blogs then it's better to start slow and then build more on that there onwards.

I am a bit confused, are you asking for the cost of the blog or how much you should be investing into buying the new games that will serve as the future content on the blog?

The blog itself literally requires no money. At least initially... you can make it work with zero budget. Just take advantage of the great free offers that you have available. You can use those platforms for a long time before you will need to even consider to upgrade to anything more. You can do the basic SEO yourself by reading and learning from the articles that are regularly posted on the Seocheckout discussion area. Most of the optimization can be done without real previous knowledge... when/if the blog gets bigger then you can always hire somebody else.

I think I am inclined to put it as cost of the blog. The games are variable cost depending on how flexible I am to create content based on the quantity of games. Thanks for the explanation above. I will definitely look around in the discussion area.

You can invest as much as you want, but my advice is to wait for a while before doing this. You should create the blog, add a quality content first, advertise and try to get traffic for free, make a few loyal users and maybe after that you should start to invest in your blog and buy more traffic or advertise more!

Not true. Investing as much as you want is a bad suggestion. Not every blog turns profitable. And for this reason one has to be proactive. And should not spend much money initially. Unless they see some results, it can be really bad in many ways. You can see that investing into the blogging at the right is more beneficial. It should be noted that we need to invest only during the growth. Till then less investment the better and focus should be on traffic.

I have to agree that investment does not necessarily lead to profits. I think it is better to test the waters and not invest unnecessarily. I think I will give it time and see if there is any potential for growth for the niche chosen. Otherwise, I will shelf this project and move on.

Personally, I would use Blogger which is completely free, until you have a following, at which point you can look into getting a domain and get some professional hosting. If you know you have a blog people are interested in you might want to consider moving toward a paid hosting experience and buy a domain.

To start a blog, you don't have to spend money on buying domain name yet. Just register at blogger dot com, create your own blog and see how the traffic flowd. If it is good, then consider buying a good domain name at godaddy.

It would still probably go down to the same old saying: the more you invest, the more you get in return. But you don't just invest right away, you should first learn the ropes and the ups and downs first. By the time you get your content materials and some in depth knowledge about what you are doing, you will then see improvements.

Well it depends on how professional you want your blog to be, how fast you want it to become popular and also pretty much on the type of content you want to put in and how you want to do it. If you want to be a gaming blogger you may want to do some videos too and you'll have to invest in some equipments to do it.

Thanks for your query. I think investment of blog, it is depending on many things. And mostly depend on how your wish and how you want to promote your site. Spending money start with domain, you may get domain free of coast or you have to pay good amount of money for buy. It is up to your domain name selection. Than come for hosting. If you choose low coasting host budget will be low or if you choose high paid host budget will high and hosting quality also high. And hosting concern also depend on from how many days or month you will pay at the same time etc. Than now come to script cost. You can start blog with free script or you can purchase premium script. There has also price verity. Finally start build with content. It is also up to your experience. If you have good experience on your selected niche, than go for it without cost. But, if you need to hire someone for content writing, there also has different price. Low budget content and high budget content depending on quality. As SEO concern you also need to spend good amount of money, if you have do not idea on it.

So, cost depend on may more things. I just said you few.

Since you are a beginner I would rather that you start simple and get the hang of going about creating a simple blog. You could start with Blogspot or Wordpress where you get a whole lot of free this and free that to create a reasonably good looking blog.
You can also read through blogs created by others who have the same interest as you and there you might get leads as to where you can get free programmes to put in your gaming blog.

I think it would be wise to start with practicing your writing skills first and not spending anything at all in the first days as a blogger. There are blogging platforms that are free to use such as blogspot but I wonder how it affects the traffic. If you are skilled and knowledgeable, you could spend as much as you want but be sure to evaluate sites that you want to use.

I think a value in hosting and buying domain is the basics for investing in a blog. If you can produce the content yourself then you can have a good economy. Otherwise, you will need to hire a copywriter to develop the articles. I think these are the most basic expenses. I could not tell you a fixed amount of how much you would spend.

Depends on how deep your pocket is. If you believe it is a project youll stick to and won't abandon it then it is good you can spend any amount to get everything running.

I started my first self-hosted blog more than a month ago and I opted for a cheap hosting package and domain which cost me $30 . The plan is on the low end but it's good enough for my purpose and it's quite a leap from using fee blogging platform. One thing I like about it is that the hosting fee of $3 a month is not bound to increase upon renewal. The domain also comes with Whois protection.

If you need plans with unlimited disk space and bandwidth, you'll have to be ready to pay for it. You can save a lot by locking the plan for three years. However, most beginners will find it too costly. You can start small while testing the waters but just make sure that the hosting company has provisions for upgrade in case you need it.

When it comes to blogging about something you're already passionate about, I think for starters you should only be spending the amount of money you normally would be. Investing your money into blogging is risky business, as ultimately there is no guaranteed pay off. Buy the video games you already would have, and create content based around them. It's going to be a while before you start seeing any revenue, but once you do, I think that is the point when you should really start considering investing more into your idea because you're likelier to make the money back or break even.

Indeeed . While every business is a potential money maker it is also a potential money waster. A lot of experience and intuition are required in order to invest sucessfully. Do you think online business are more prone to failure than regular business?

For the most part, I do believe that online businesses are more prone to failure than traditional businesses. I had read an article recently on the current wave of start-ups popping up around the internet. If I recall correctly, they stated that something like 90% of all online businesses fail within the first 120 days. I think this is due to the fact that starting an online business is so accessible in this day and age, that anyone with an idea thinks they can start a business. Many of these people have no background in marketing and as a result fail to make the proper decisions to keep their businesses alive. Opening a traditional brick and mortar establishment takes far more work, dedication, and risk than running a website, but I think it gives people more motivation.

Quite frankly, if you're a newbie blogger and just testing "the waters", then I see no reason for you to invest any money except to pay for the Internet service you'll be using and your time and energy, if you want to calculate what that is worth.

There are far too many FREE blogging platforms out there for you to try to see first if you even be successful.

My Pain, Your Gain: Take this advice from me, a person who has had more than one blog DELETED in the blink of an eye. Unless you already know what you're doing, LEARN FIRST. My friend's story is that once she realized that her blog had become popular, she purchased a domain and really put her effort into it. My two other friends have a different story. Their blogs became so popular, other people bought their blogs.

So my advice to beginning bloggers is to try your hand using the free platforms first.
Consider it OJT: on-the-job training.

Thanks for your response. I will certainly keep that in mind. Seems like it's time to try out the platforms first. I think I will need to take things slow as I have plenty of work to put in with limited amounts of time so far.

As many of other members as told you I don't think you should invest your money just yet, especially if you are starting your blog. Maybe just in paid traffic? so you can get followers and people to read you but more than that I think it'll be a bit risky. Also don't invest all your money in one thing because if it end up not being what you expect then you'll be broke!

I started my blogs on a free domain which is the blogger because I wasn't too sure if I will do it for long.When i realized I could do well and with passion, I began the paid hosting, paying someone to design and buying other plug-ins to customize it.

That was roughly 105$ so it depends on what you want.but you can start with the free domain WordPress or blogger and see how it goes

That was the question I had faced two years ago when I was ready to launch my first blog (first because I never had a custom domain and hosting). I decided to go low on budget. Therefore, I got a dot xyz domain (it cost me 88 cents, if I had to register a dot com it would have cost me $15), I bought shared hosting, which is the cheapest hosting package. I decided to design my website myself, I had no web development skills and I began reading instructional articles. I think you should never go far with your blog investment if you are new kid on the block. You should try to do yourself and stay away from hiring. Once you have some graps and begin to see some money coming you can take your blog to next level by doing a make over.

Personally I think you can spend zero money to start blogging all you need first is to train yourself how it works, How to attract people to read your contents and how to be responsible for your blog bh feeding it with posts regularly and make it live long you can train yourself with all that in a free hosting domain just make sure that the domain offers premium versions that way you can change it later when you want to look more professional.
So my advice is always spend less than you can make it helps to not work to fail.

Yes, I believe it is pretty dangerous to get into this thing unprepared and spend unnecessarily. As of now, I guess it is better to do it using free tools and platforms to gauge the interest level first.

If you will be the only blogger for your blog, about $75 will do to cover the marketing campaign. What I suggest is for you to focus on your blogging and let a virtual assistant or a hired person that you personally know to handle the marketing. Social media is my best best so your social media accounts should be active and has many followers and friends. If not, then the virtual assistant can provide you with the regular posting on your social media account and the interaction needed for your friends and followers to notice you.
