Keeping your clients happy by surprising them with something they weren't expecting

When it comes to keeping your clients happy, one of the best ways to do this is by giving them something they weren't expecting.  This could mean that you did some free design work for them if you're a graphic designer or you went above and beyond with their SEO campaign if you're an online marketer.  Now those things are all good and nice, but why not send your clients something they can hold in their hands?

In the past I've done this and I was surprised at what happened.  I would send out customize coffee mugs, about 1 dozen of them, to my clients that were paying me monthly to do Online Marketing for them.  They did not know these were coming to them, so when the mugs arrived at their door step they were pleasantly surprised Keeping your clients happy by surprising them with something they weren

On the mugs there was a high resolution logo, theirs of course, on the mugs so that they would love them more than just getting a random gift.  A lot of companies will send free merchandise to clients with their own logos and website on them, but I do it differently so that the people will have the mugs in their break room or on their desk at all times.  The people making the decisions will know where the mugs came from and they will think of you every time they look at them or use them Keeping your clients happy by surprising them with something they weren

You can use a service like CafePress.com to do all of this for you at a reasonable price.  Each mug will cost you, on the high end, $26.  On the low end they could cost you around $32 but you'd have to purchase a lot of them.

Keeping your clients happy by surprising them with something they weren

If you're purchasing 1 dozen, which is recommended, these specific mugs will cost you $33.47 a piece.  This is actually a great price for any type of high quality mug.

You can find the CafePress mugs here:  http://www.cafepress.com/make/custom-mugs

Now you don't have to send them mugs, you can send them whatever you want.  You can even send them products with your own logo on them.  If you go with your own logo, be sure it's something they will use all the time.  Coffee mugs will work well with this, but I would say that you should send mouse pads or pens if you're going to be branding them with your own logos because people will use these every day, or at least keep them around for when they do need them.

Sending out pens with your logos on them are a great advertising method because everyone needs to write something at some point lol.  How many times have you been given a pen and you throw it out?  Never!  You always hold onto it because in your head you think "So what if it has a logo on it, it's functional and I can use it".  With that being said, you can't just hand out $2.10 BIC pens to people and think they'll love them.  Get some gel ink pens that cost around $3.00 a piece if you buy in bulk and brand them.  People will always use a good pen over something they aren't sure will work.  You will also look like a better brand because you're giving away a high quality item for free.

When sending out mouse pads you will want to make sure that the companies you're sending them to actually use computers fairly often.  If you're sending these mouse pads to mom and pop shops that only have a register at the front, it's not a good investment on your part.  You will want to send mouse pads to offices in your area because they will more than likely have multiple computers in each office that will be able to utilize a mouse pad.  If you have the budget for it, you can even use this as a form of marketing in order to pull in clients that aren't answering your calls or emails Keeping your clients happy by surprising them with something they weren

In Conclusion:
You will always want to give out some sort of free products to your loyal clients or even some clients that may be on the fence when it comes to signing up for your services.  You can even send out these types of gifts to companies that you've never talked with in the past and you just want to get in contact with them to see if they'll sign up with you, it costs much more to advertise this way, but it works sometimes lol.

I think giving things out to clients for free can be an exciting way to get them feeling happier for they never expected such from you. I could recall when the firm I work with gave out a unit of our product to our crown client and I was the one that delivered that to him. I would say that he felt quite happy about that and that tightened our relationship.

The surprise is actually that mattered most because when the client is not expecting anything from the seller it will really be a big deal when he receives something free. During Christmas season, clients expect a gift from the seller so it should be taken note that the surprise is not there anymore although you can still make a surprise gift when your client buys for the second time during the season.

Yes, getting something unexpected for your business is something that sticks in your memory bank. I think this is a good way to retain customer loyalty. It is just the thing to make them remember you, and remember you and your company fondly,

It's all about retaining customer's loyalty and commitment to what we sell. Such free items can go a long way in tightening the relationship we have with them at the end.

A great idea if you can afford it as long as your clients don't start expecting it.

Although the pens are cheaper and everyone would use them, they get lost. I had never thought of coffee cups, its brilliant. Company logo and maybe a motivational phrase or comical joke on the other side. The opportunities are endless and visual marketing promoting your brand. Depending on the style of cups, they make use them for visitors as well, increasing exposure.

It is always nice to get something cheaper then what you first thought. I went into a thrift store expecting to pay the full price for a Christmas item but they were 75 percent off! That was awesome! I will be reembering that place.

This is a great idea, however, the main question is affordability. Whether you can afford your surprises or not, this is the primary question. Perhaps, choosing a handful clients to give surprises could be a better idea. If your clients have been loyal to you and has bought too many services and products, giving them something can give a great boost to your business.

I think this is quite true. Being in sales field, I can surely relate to it. If clients get something that they were not expecting, then surely, it increases their trust on the brand.

It's clear that it is going to increase their trust and loyalty to the brand for doing unexpected things for them shows the brand care for them.

This reminds me of the days when I had my retailing business. When Christmas time approaches, I get a headache because we had to prepare giveaways to our clients. That is right, surprising the clients with something is a must during occasions and even if they expect it or not, the gifts should come. Sometimes our giveaways are pens, mugs but there are times we give our clients t-shirts.

It can be tasking to do, but giving freebies to clients can be a sure way to stay ahead in the business unless you don't want to go far on the relationship with them.

I think mug and the other things which have physical presence requires some level of money. And unless the client is regular and bigger one. You can't really afford it. I won't be thinking of physical gifts unless client has 1000$ account with me. I'd then consider for the gift because such gifts are going to cost a lot in such case. I'd be surely thinking more to manage them. Not sure how that may work out for me though.

That's true to some extent but if you order things such as mugs, t-shirts, calendars or whatever else in bulks it's ten times cheaper than to order just a few. So, if you're running a nice business and have plenty of clients, want to keep them loyal, make them happy, etc. then buying them a small gift is probably the best and most affordable way.

Yes that's my point too. This works out for local clients though. I can't imagine shipping mug from asia to US where it may cost me a lot of money. And that can also lead to more expenses on the logistics side. It is some of the times easy. But we have to deal with the way things are working. That's how it works there.

I see a lot of companies using this method to lure new customers and clients, it a neat way of advertising despite the fact that it really expensive but if it going bring in new clients or customers, then one would be making money too.So why not try if it really to be positive then it can help catapult the business to an enviable height.People love surprises and using this method might just be what one needs to succeed

That's a truly nice idea and gesture especially considering how fast the Christmas is approaching. There's nothing better than to give your clients or costumers a small little gift which will remind them that you care! I love that you didn't only give us a great suggestion but also listed the approximate pricing and so on.

I think that it isn't that big of an expanse to buy them something like mugs or calendars if you consider what a big positive impact it will have in the long run.

I'm glad you shared the link for cafe press. I have never thought of surprising clients but I have learned something new from this post. Coffee mugs, pens and mouse pads are great. Even wallpapers are great.

Adding a logo on notebooks is also another idea. Clients need notebooks to write down daily urgent needs.

This is a great idea to build a stronger connection with your audience. I plan on doing some secret surprise giveaway stuff once our new website launches - hopefully soon.

Underpromised but over delivered is always a good thing. Your client will be grateful for your initiative and they would be always happy in working with you. It will also raise your credibility among other freelancers that are also working with your client. You will always be their first choice for their coming projects because you not only do what they've asked you to do but you also knew other things that would help them more.

I have an anecdote about my first sale on Seocheckout. I had created a service for $15, when I delivered the service, the buyer said, your work is beyond my expectations. Since I was new, the buyer thought I had average skills. I surprised the buyer and he bought the same service again.

Doing extra mile is always the good thing to do for the clients. Giving for more than what they asked you to do could possibly be rewarded with another goodness. You could not always expect that the clients will do the same but at least you have shown to them that you are worthy of their trust and they can depend on your great work.
