Working from home as an online marketer isn't always great

When it comes to working from home, you're usually going to think of online marketing.  Well working from home as an online marketer isn't always the easiest thing to do because there are a lot of things you have to focus on as well as not get distracted.  Having a home office is a great way to help you work, but it's not always the greatest thing because you can still get easily distracted.

Don't get me wrong, I have a home office and I use it a lot, but I usually catch myself sitting at my kitchen table doing the majority of my work because I just like the table more lol.  I have a nice desk and lamp in the corner of my basement that just collects dust because I like to be upstairs with my family as I work, which could be a huge distraction at times but I think that's the only good distraction

Working from home as an online marketer isn't always great because of a few things, and that's what I'll be talking about in this discussion



Distractions:
When it comes to working from home, not just as an online marketer, you will have a massive amount of distractions to worry about.  Like I mentioned above, I have the distraction of family but that's a good one to have

Most people, when working from home, will easily get distracted by their phones or TV in the background.  Their phones will notify them of a call or text and the person will then get pulled into whatever other notifications there are on the phone.  I myself have a problem with this because I get a ton of emails each day and I want to read some of them.  I then get pulled down the rabbits hole and don't realize how long I've not been working, which is never good.  The TV on in the background is also a super big distraction because you will only hear snippets of audio that will catch your attention and you will turn to watch.  I've caught myself watching an entire episode of Jimmy Falon on the Tonight Show because I heard a him mention a guest he was having. 

To fix this, I turn my phone on silent and keep my TV turned off until I'm on my lunch break or done with work lol.

Lunch Breaks:
When I work from home I like to take a 1 hour lunch break.  Most businesses allow a 30 to 60 minute break, so me taking 1 hour isn't that bad.  The bad part about this is that I will take an hour long break and eat a huge lunch then get tired.  I'll want to take an afternoon nap because of how full I am, and since I'm at home already, I have a nice big bed to go lay down in for 30 minutes.

Now to most people, a 30 minute nap is ok since you're working form home.  You can just work an extra 30 minutes at the end of the day to make up for it.  When I take a nap at home I usually smack my alarm clock and sleep for at least 2 hours, which kills my productivity and also keeps me awake all night long because I'm not tired lol.

Boredom:
Working from home can bore the life out of you.  You can be working for 8 hours staring at the same screen or 4 walls around you and this will drain you.  There have been plenty of times that I was working and I didn't realize how bored I was and started to go on reddit or Facebook to take a 5 minute break in order to break my boredom lol.

Boredom and Online Marketing go hand in hand if you're working from home because you will usually be the only one home if everyone else is away at work.  You will not have anyone to talk to or mingle with like how most people have the option of doing in an office setting.  You'll need to avoid the boredom, but I can't tell you how to do that exactly since everyone has different interests and it's difficult to tell you what to do to stay on task and keep your attention

Losing Track of Time:
When you're working as an online marketer from home you will likely lose track of time even if there is a clock in front of you.  There have been plenty of times that I've been working for 8 hours in a row and forgot to eat, call someone, go somewhere, etc.  I've missed my fair share of appointments due to losing track of time lol.

The fix to this is pretty simple, you just need to set alarms on your phone and add titles to each alarm that goes off.  You will need to drop what you're doing when the alarm goes off because if you snooze it, you'll likely keep doing so and not remember to attend to whatever it was.

Working Odd Hours:
I work some pretty odd hours as a full time online marketer.  I'll work during the day and at night, which is basically 2nd and 3rd shift.  Now this is a normal thing for a lot of jobs because there's 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift which basically is morning, noon and night shifts.  If I were to always work during the 2nd and 3rd shift I'd be ok with that, but since I work from home and more people live here, I can't always work when I want to.  There have been times that I've worked from 9am to 2pm and then from 10pm to 4am.  My hours are all over the place and that's something a lot of online marketers have in common




In Conclusion:
Working online as an online marketer isn't always the greatest thing, but it's what we love doing and wouldn't trade it for the world   Even if a full time marketer does read this discussion they won't get turned off because they are already living what I mentioned haha
