    What you should not be posting to protect your website

    When you're running a website, you'll want to please everyone because we all know that the angry people out there are more likely to post something negative than the happy ones posting something positive.  You need to think before you post and having some sort of guidelines will usually keep you safe rather than sorry.

    So many times I've seen some companies post something without thinking and they instantly regret it.  This doesn't even have to do with social media, it can be through commercials and billboards as well.  Do you remember the commercial with one of the Kardashian sisters handing a Pepsi to a black cop and it was suppose to be something like "Bridging the gap between racism and ease the tension between officers and citizens" which was a complete disaster.  No one wants to see a super privileged Kardashian in the first place, but put her in something that is suppose to have a hard hitting message and it's obviously a mix for chaos lol.  The Pepsi commercial was quickly pulled from TV after it aired, but the damage was already done.

    So Pepsi had no right to try and come in to "bridge" anything, so they should have kept their noses out of the situation.  They decided it was a good idea and ran with the commercial but got a huge rise up of angry people b*tching about the commercial.  I honestly don't know what they were thinking when they did this, maybe they thought they were going to be remembered for "fixing" the entire situation. 

    Anyway, let's get into what you shouldn't be posting in order to protect your website and business.  You must remember that if you're in the niches below, you can obviously post about them.  If you're not, then you should avoid them at all costs.


    Religion
    Posting about religion is never a good thing unless you're already seen as a religious website or business.  Posting about religion will usually get people coming in to complain because maybe you got one little thing wrong or you don't actually know what you're talking about.  You will also see people coming in to bash religion, and if you're not in the niche, you won't be able to defend your views and be taken seriously.  You will lose a lot of clients, traffic, frequent visitors, etc. if you start posting about religion because you're always going to offend someone.


    Politics
    I try to avoid politics at all costs unless there is something that is going to happen to online marketing and it's in the news.  Politics is pretty much split down the middle in the US.  You either vote for an Elephant or a Donkey and one side always hates the other.  So if you start posting about politics and voicing your opinions, you will be pushing away roughly half of your traffic and we all know that can kill a business.


    Pornography
    You should never be posting about pornography unless you're something like PornHub lol.  You never want to be seen as posting images and content in this niche if you're not a part of it because you will be seen as unprofessional.  You will lose your current image and now you'll be seen as more seethy and gross.  You will definitely lose ground on social media because people will unfollow you and that's never what we want.


    Anything Rascist
    If you're posting racist information, you should probably get your website deleted.  Being racist is a horrible thing because it's not needed.  You're not better than anyone else even if you make 10x the national average.  The color of your skin and the size of your bank account does not matter, so it should stay off of your website.  If you do post something racist, you will lose respect from a ton of people across the world.


    Misleading Content
    When you're posting misleading content you will just annoy people.  Annoying people is always a horrible thing to do when you have a credible business because you won't be increasing your sales.  You need to do a lot of research on something before posting, if you don't, you will just post garbage and people will begin to see you as unauthoritive.  Not being an authority is a horrible thing when it comes to a website promotion.



    When you're running a business it's always good to stick within your niche.  You never want to be posting out of your niche because you're passionate about something else.  If you do want to post about something your passionate about and it's not in your niche, start up a new website/blog and write there or go on a website that is related and voice what's running through your head.


    In Conclusion:
    Knowing what not to post will always keep your image safe.  If you lose the authoritive image with your traffic, you'll likely lose it with the search engines as well.  This isn't an "All news is good news" type of situation.  If there is bad press out there online about your website, it will usually stay out there and you will be haunted by it until your website is sold or taken down.

    Yeah, I always thought that this is common sense but companies keep proving me otherwise. I don't know why some take such high risks (Pepsi was a good example) to POTENTIALLY get attention. The attention that they end up getting is bad and causes a lot of controversies but hey, some like the saying ''no publicity is bad publicity''.

    However, Pepsi is a big company and can afford to do such things. When it comes to smaller companies and websites you really should be more careful. Razzy pretty much listed all the big ''no-no's'' when it comes to website contents. Stick to the list and you will avoid a lot of possible damage.

    As Tronia said, this looks like common sense to me, but it is also really nice to have it laid out in this way, people should have it as a to go check list whenever they want to post something and avoid big mistakes that will go and damage the image of a website or company.

    Hallo I like this thread And you got some usefull advices, Thanks for the information, I personally Stay away from Religious and political discussions so Won't bring it on my business website :-)
    What about people who wants to put ads in their bloggs??? Some ads are irrelevant to the theme of the blogg or website and it doesn't affect the audiance. is it because most of people use adblockers just like me??? or?

    This is true, but sad as well. To have such things like politics and religion discussions on your website and ruining the good reputation for you. With so many people on planet and each of them having their own view on all of that, those are surely topics you should be avoiding unless you want to deal with them.

    I like your article with full of helpful suggestion. It is really true that we should post such a material that can be sensitive to any kind of visitor. The Internet is worldwide technology. So we should be careful while posting anything that can be disturbing for any country, religion,or race. The post should be suitable for all ages of visitors. If you want to work in a long term then we should write an attractive post that everyone would like.

    Intelligent / intellectual people tend to do this a lot, that's one of the main reasons why dumb people make more money or are rich more easily. They stick to one subject, they do not mix things around.
    I think that this is one of the main reasons why dumb people are more successful than the intelligent / intellectual ones. Dumb people are frequently smarter than others.

    These days people are very sensitive on the internet. And they can get easily offended too. So it can be hard to have content that does not affect others. And I mean by hurting others we can invite the trolls. That's something we should be avoiding in such case. That is for sure.

    The world is full of crazy people. Some of the topmost can find a problem with the most basic of content. So putting up a debatable content has a wide range of risk factor.

    Avoidance is the best move. It is better to play safe rather than to waste the valuable time handling such issues.

    Yes avoidance can be a good move. But the thing is that the above mentioned content which OP showed is what is being used by the Buzzfeed. And they seem to be posting a lot of such content. And they seem to be getting a lot of money. So not sure how the risk factor is there. There are some of the buzzfeed like content mills which are making money through the spreading of hate, religion and other controversial. That's the thing that makes money for them.

    As a person, your post speaks more about you., therefore, you must be mindful of what you post make sure they are decent, meaningful and not discriminating as said above either in terms of religion or politics.
    Also, nude pictures should be avoided because you will be addressed the way you are seen.

    I could recall when I posted something on pornography on the blog that I work as a guest and that really cause some negative feedbacks on the site. Then was when I learnt that doing so is not the good way to go about online content creation.

    When I was young, I heard my father telling my eldest sister about arguments. She had a quarrel with one of her best friends. My father said that never involve religion and politics in your socializing to mean you should not talk about it. My sister’s best friend belongs to another religious group and from what I gathered, the conflict arose from the religious differences. And until now, I remember not to talk about religion and politics with anyone so as to avoid conflicts.
