Simple and Easy marketing tips for small businesses and startups

When you're starting up a small business you may think it's nearly impossible to get the word out about everything you do and why. There are actually plenty of low cost ways to get the word out about your business and see a pretty good ROI while doing so. Over the years I've come across many struggling businesses and the main thing that they're not doing is over delivering or helping their customers. A lot of people who are running a small business usually don't answer emails right away, give more than what was purchased (over deliver) or go out of their way for a client. There are so many ways you can achieve greatness, and one of the easiest ways to do this is just by using these 10 simple marketing tips I've listed below Simple and Easy marketing tips for small businesses and startups

10 Marketing Tips Any Business Can Use

1. Give away your product
If you're selling a physical product or some sort of food or beverage, you can usually give it away to potential customers. Now if you're selling something that is physical, you'll have to be selective when giving away items. You'll have to figure out who has websites in your niche and give away items to those people in exchange for positive reviews on their website. This will not only spread the word about your business but it will increase your rankings through backlinking and bring in additional sales.

If you're selling a food or beverage then you'll want to give this away to everyone that wants it. You won't give it away to everyone who walks through your doors at your physical location, unless you're just giving out small samples. You'll want to attend conventions and have a booth that gives your food or beverage away to anyone that wants some. This will increase your customer base and if you're food or drink is any good, you could get large orders since big conventions have buyers walking around looking for new product Simple and Easy marketing tips for small businesses and startups

2. Networking Events
If you contact your area chamber of commerce they will usually tell you when and where there are networking events that have to due with your city/town. You can attend these events and get to know businesses in the area, and if you sell a digital service like SEO or Web Design, you can usually get your card in a lot of peoples hands.

This is usually a great thing because you're going to be the first person someone thinks of when they need your services. You're local and friendly, which is always a great selling point when the person you handed your card to needs something or refers one of their friends Simple and Easy marketing tips for small businesses and startups

3. Create your own event in your area
Don't wait for the events to come to you, just make your own. You can get the word out by using facebook marketing and targeting business owners in your area. If you set up re-targeting correctly then your campaign will be a killer success and you will have loads of people showing up.

4. Volunteer For Organizations
When it comes to volunteering, many people think you can just feed the homeless or pick up trash. Most of you probably don't realize you can volunteer for an organization in your niche and meet like minded people. Take this one step further and volunteer to run a small business organization and you will have a plethora of clients at your fingertips Simple and Easy marketing tips for small businesses and startups Obviously you'll have to take your position seriously and do the job, but people will get to know you and know your business over time.

5. Make a Podcast
You can start up a podcast and interview other business owners in your area. This is a great way to get in touch with business owners in the area either in person or just over the phone. People love talking about themselves and their businesses, so give them a call and hear what they have to say Simple and Easy marketing tips for small businesses and startups

6. Help People
If you're very knowledgeable in a niche that not many people are, you have an opportunity to help others. If you're an accountant, you can help people get their taxes in order or payroll set up the right way. If you're an online marketer, you can help people through setting up their websites and getting increased rankings. People always need help with something, are you going to be the one who helps them out?

7. Send out weekly newsletters
Keeping in touch with your customers and subscribers is crucial. You can easily automate this using something like mailchimp and have it set for months in advance so you don't have to worry about it much. Just be sure to log back in and set it back up after all the emails are sent out Simple and Easy marketing tips for small businesses and startups If you're emails are helpful and informative, people will sometimes share it with friends and family which is great for you.

8. Support Something
Some people like to do a barbecue and have people come over for a cause they support, like finding a cure for cancer. Others will get the get together catered which frees up time in order to talk to people that show up. You can do this for people in your area or invite small business owners in order to do some marketing.

9. Sponsor Something
You can sponsor a local organization which isn't as much as you would think it is. You can then get your logo and links in every email that goes out for the organization, get your logo on their website and possible get your information on any handouts that are given away by the organization. This is a great way to do marketing and people will always see an organization sponsor as selfless, which is great.

10. Giveaways!
This is one of my most favorite low cost marketing tactics for any type of business I run. I'll figure out what a person who is interested in something of mine is interested in and I'll get it for the lowest cost possible. Then I'll put my logos and domain on the item and give it away for free. You'll usually see this type of marketing in the form of business pens or magnets because people don't tend to throw away something that has a use. I know I still have pens from 5 to 7 years ago when I went to a big marketing conference lol.

In Conclusion:
It's not difficult, or expensive, to get the word out there about your business. Think outside of the box a little bit and also use the 10 things I mentioned above. In no time you'll have some additional clients and possibly some really good affiliates Simple and Easy marketing tips for small businesses and startups

Thanks for your excellent enumeration on how to optimise sales which are the essence of any business. I would like to add that the marketing mix which includes the cost of production and the quality of the product matter a lot without which everything would become an uphill task. Again, there is another concept gaining currency, that of negative advertising. For instance if you wish your detergent to excel in sales, you advertise with the tagline, dirt is good.

I will have to disagree with giving away product. Once I offered my book for free on Amazon. I was expecting good reviews by giving the book for free. Over a hundred copies of my books were downloaded in three days, it was even listed in the top 20 in its category, however, I did not get a single review. If people get it for free they won't use it and they will not remember you.

I think small business require a lot of efforts. Landing that first client is not that easy and you should be working more on the recurring clients too. So but it also needs to be said that you should constantly check for the changes in the business. That being said, you have to understand not all startups need to do those things. It takes time to even manage promotion properly.

Giving away sample products is very common in supermarkets here. It seems that every time I go to the supermarket, there were always plenty of promo girls who are giving away free samples of their product, from food items like instant noodles to household items like detergent. Again, the adage is true that the proof of the pudding is in the eating so those giveaway samples will prove to the potential customers that their product is good.
