Advice for Beginners in Affiliate Marketing

Advice for Beginners in Affiliate Marketing
So if you are planning to start Affiliate Marketing in 2017 then you might be confused where to start. Surely you might have done a bit of research on it and know what it is all about. But you are confused because you might have come across a lot of theories by the gurus out there. They will show you that they are making six or seven figure income each month by following just simple steps or working only one or two hours each day. And you will be attracted to buy their courses. Some of them will make you come quick bucks. But are you also going to make the same amount of money they do? Surely Not!
All the Affiliate Marketing gurus out there have huge email lists and can make 200$ or 1000$ in an hour or so just by sending an email through their autoresponders to their clients. And they have done a lot of hard work and spend years to build those lists which are making them millions of dollars.
Don’t get discouraged by this. Because you can also be like them if you work hard and take this seriously as they have done and turn this into a full-time income. If you want you can hire a mentor because that will help you but that is not necessary because if you know the basic outline of Affiliate Marketing you can learn it by yourself from Google or YouTube.
So, how to start and which path to follow so that you can become successful in Affiliate Marketing?
After hours of research, you might have come across various models of affiliate marketing like- “Affiliate Marketing without a website”, “Affiliate Marketing by Blogging”, “Affiliate Marketing by Building email lists”, “Affiliate Marketing by SEO” etc. but you are confused which one will work for you.
The most common path or model which a beginner can follow is-
1) Choosing a product
2) Doing keyword research on that topic
3) Building your site
4) SEO
5) Getting traffic through Facebook Ads, Google Adwords, Solo Ads etc.
6) Earning Money
Well, that is the basic or the most common outline that most of the beginners follow. And this works very well and many people are earning by using this method. But this is not a method which can generate a long term income. Because you don’t own the customers.
If you go to a shopkeeper, who gives you good quality products, then you are more likely to buy from him again. This little theory is the difference between making 100$ a month and 10000$ a month.
The ‘common method’ which you will follow does not have any way that can retain your customers because you are not getting a chance to interact with them. They come to your site or click on your link and go to the vendor’s site, buy the product and you get your commissions. The vendor captures the email of the buyers and makes recurring profits by sending other related products to them or the additional products. But you only get paid once.
So, what can you do?
Try to choose a specific niche and make a list of various best-selling products in that niche. And then build your site on that niche and offer something like an eBook or a guide for free for which they will enter their email. That’s it. For example, if you have a site which is offering an eBook related to “How to lose weight?” then the person who puts their email to get the eBook will definitely be interested in purchasing a product based on the niche. You will need an autoresponder for this. If you don’t know what that is you, go checkout on Google. Try to build different campaigns and sites for different niches.
So, those are some little tricks or advice which will help you get started and prevent you from making mistakes which most beginners do. Hope you enjoyed this article.

I have been working as an affiliate marketer since a long time. I first started with Hubpages. When you joined hubpages, you had an opportunity to join Amazon and ebay and refer the Amazon and eBay products. (Currently, Hubpages has disabled ebay). When I created my own websites and blogs, I started promoting Amazon products. I also joined other affiliate networks such ad Commission Junction and Linkshare.
In my experience, it is really difficult to drive sales. You can drive traffic to your website, however, converting the traffic to the sales is the most difficult aspect of affiliate marketing.

My experience is similar to yours only by the time I joined HUBPages, I had already signed up as an Amazon Associate. I have earned from my HUBs.

Like you, for my own websites and blogs where I promote Amazon products. I joined Commission Junction and Linkshare. I have never earned anything from CJ and for some reason, my Linkshare account got deleted. I was new to affiliate marketing and I'm not sure what happened. No matter because I joined ShareASale which is way better.

I am a Zazzle affiliate but I have yet to earn commissions from sales of Zazzle products. I blame myself. I don't think I know how to market the products properly. But I won't stop trying.

I am also approved by VigLink which has several merchants and neat tools to help you share links.

I don't just share my affiliate referral links via my websites and blogs but also via the social media platforms that allow it – mainly, Pinterest, Twitter, and Tumblr. One of the really cool things about VigLink is that in the dashboard they suggest products and have a social sharing feature. You can tweet links or share them via Facebook.

Another thing I did was collaborate with online friends who have their own affiliate marketing websites or blogging communities who allowed me to create web pages or blog posts and include my affiliate links in my content at their sites.

Now I'm on Instagram and some companies have contacted me directly and asked me to be an affiliate and advertise their products via my IG account. An unexpected opportunity! But I'm cool with it.

Bottom line? To earn via affiliate marketing, you really gotta hustle! But you can earn. That's my advice for beginners.

I make some Amazon sales, however, I have not made any affiliate sales with LinkShare. It has been two years since I started promotion Linkshare products, yet I did not sell any. I earned some commission from CJ. However, last time I logged into CJ dashboard, I found that my earnings have disappeared. When I checked further, I found that CJ deducted my earnings in the name of service charge. I am thinking to terminate my accounts with CJ and Linkshare. I am also looking forward to developing better strategies to drive sales to my amazon products.

I won't terminate my CJ account since I've already given them my private tax identifying information. Besides ... one never knows. Might actually sell something and earn a commission. There's always a first time for everything. I am having a little success with VigLink. Strangely enough, I saw Commission Junction listed as a VigLink merchant. I am not sure how that works. I found it odd the name was there because I don't remember receiving any eMail from CJ that there was a change. Perhaps they are using their stand-alone program and VigLink together. Either way, I have not generated income via CJ at all.

Currenly, I have removed all of the CJ products from my blogs. If the ad network deducts your commission earning as service charge, am not in favor of using the network. Well, I am also not earning well with this network. I am thinking to use amazon in better ways. I will have content related ads within the content instead of having banners and ads in the sidebard ot header/footer.

I totally understand your reasoning. I can't exactly remember where I placed the links for CJ products. I have a lot of varied content around the web. But you're right. It is a waste to share the links if what little you earn gets swallowed up.

With respect to Amazon, have you tried using the Native Ads? Amazon has all kinds of coding you can place on your blogs and websites that look very attractive and could likely attract purchasers.

It's really easy to tweet and pin Amazon product links.

Amazon is one of the VigLink merchants and you can convert links using the "VigLink Anywhere" tool and share them anywhere - on your websites or blogs, in your eMails, etc.

Do you use list-making tools?
I am curious to try this method to see if it generates commissions.

Most of the people in affiliate marketing know about SEO and keywords and also all PPC ad networks to work with it. But the main topic to learn in affiliate marketing is finding a niche to promote. Finding a suitable and unique niche is very important in affiliate marketing.

Amazing advise. I'm taking note of some of your points because I'm just starting out as an affiliate marketer. So far it looks like an uphill task but I'm determined to see it through because I believe that this is the key to my financial security. The most important point for me to note is that your keywords are very important and are the key to your rewards. Researching your keywords is the most successful way of getting visibility for your product.

I am new to affiliate marketing and I still have to start with that activity because I am still in the process of learning the nuances. But I already understand that it is recommended to focus on the products and services that are related to each other. It is like taking a niche and selling products that fall under that niche. I am also looking at the marketing side in using social media because I find social media a very potent venue for marketing.
