Three things I've learned as a SEO in 2016

2016 was a great year for me as an SEO. I've made a big comeback in the online marketing arena by getting a job as an SEO at a very respectable local agency. But things weren't very easy, I had to learn and adapt to all the new rules and changes 2016 and Google had implemented. Here are the best SEO related things I've learned in 2016:

1. Everything Google matters. When it comes to Google and their services you need to be extra careful and informed about all the changes they are making. Don't ignore services like Google My Bussiness, Google reviews, Google maps or Google plus pages.

2. Organic CTR is playing a bigger role than eve in the SEO arena. You need to watch your organic CTR carefully and implement changes as to increase you CTR as much as possible. This means good and modern title tags and meta descriptions but also microformats and structured data.

3. There is still a lot to learn when it comes to SEO, almost every day you should keep your skills sharp by reading articles even from people you disagree with, informing yourself daily as well as testing the things you are reading is the only way you can evolve and keep yourself relevant as an SEO.

I agree that Google is the giant when it comes to search engines that maybe you can get traffic from other search engines but just about 20% or less compared to the potential traffic that your website can get from Google searchers. My take on Google is for SEO specialists to focus on Google for the desired traffic and the other search engines will follow when you are doing right with Google.
