AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites.

Hey freelancers!

I have a question for you all. We've been talking about adblock and ad blockers previously, and this time it's about AdBlock, but, I have troubles with it.. Or at least it seems to be some kind of problem.

Previously, from the first time I've used it until very recently, like a week ago or something, I get tons of popups when I visit different sites, even though I still have AdBlock activated.

At first, I thought it was due to AdBlock being out of date, so I obviously updated it. . However, that didn't solve it. - I still get these annoying popups, and there's literally a bunch of them at the same time.

Is there anything I can do to skip all these ads?

Best Regards,

Hmmmm it sounds like you may need to look into a new ad blocker, or just a blocker that focuses on pop ups.

I use AdBlocker Ultimate and I haven't had any problems with pop ups. I've actually gone to my own websites and gotten mad because some of my ads didn't show up and I forgot that I had AdBlocker Ultimate up and running lol AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites.

What websites are you going to when you're seeing these pop ups?

Is there an option for you to add in websites for your ad blocker to check and update their programming to block ads?

Is there a section that allows you to add special websites to blacklist in order to block everything? This may affect all the images from loading, but might help with the few websites that you're seeing these annoying pop ups on.

Pop ups definitely are annoying and I feel your pain. Annoying ads that slowed my page load times are the main reason I have my ad blocker running in the background to nuke them all AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites.

After facebook started setting up their system to avoid all ad blockers I noticed more and more webmasters and programmers setting up something to do the same thing. This could be the reason you're seeing more ads, popups in particular, when you're browsing around online AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites. Maybe you can check to see how people are still blocking facebook ads and see if you can use a similar system to block the pop ups you're seeing when online?

I think that if you ran 2 different ad blockers, or switched your ad blocker, would be the easiest way to solve your problem. A lot of ad blockers out there are free so you don't have to worry too much about that. But if you're dedicated to a specific one, it could be difficult breaking your loyalty lol.

I'll come back to check and see if you have any updates on what you've done to block these annoying pop ups AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites.

Hmm.. Thank you very much Razzy, I appreciate it! - Adblocker Ultimate sounds like a good option! - I don't really care about which Adblocker I use, as long as I get rid of all these lame pop-ups and ads. I hate them!

I can't really state the specific sites I'm using, due to various reasons. (And no, it's not porn related AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites.) - But I can't actually tell, as these have started to pop up on a daily basis literally "anywhere" I go. - Nothing on SC or any Ionicware sites, so I know it's not a virus or something I've got. It's pop ups alone. Like Adblock have started to show them on their own or something. It's weird and crazy!

That is strange Andre. I also have Adblock on my laptop and I have no problems with pop ups. Perhaps it is a setting somewhere in Adblock that needs to be tweaked?

I think Razzy could be right that web masters are probably working around the clock right now to get around adblockers since they are probably losing money hand over fist with so many people blocking ads? But if that were the case I am sure that I would also be seeing pop ups too?

Yeah I know.. But I don't know. AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites.

I haven't changed a single thing in my settings so everything is like it "supposed to be" so to speak, and I've even re-installed it.. Without success. I still get all these lame pop-ups, and truth to be told, it seems like I'm getting more of them too, so it's like my Adblock are showing them on it's own or something...? AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites.

Totally weird and I literally hate pop-ups. Especially when I'm smashed with 4 or 5 at once. That will eventually leave me with one choice, and that's to cut the power! AdBlock - Still get TONS of popups on several sites.

Oh that is strange. Do you remember the discussion here a while back about how these Adblockers are not actually blocking everything? If a company pays enough to the Adblocker they will make that person appear through the Adblock so maybe this is what is happening to you?

I have experienced this before, this could be due to your whitelisting features. See if that AdBlock has a section to stop nonintrusive ads. Sometimes 'nonintrusive' ads result in way too intrusive ads such as popups. Another thing to do, is to try blocking the hosts with your hosts file, this is the BEST way to block ads, and then install the adblockers to remove the advertising elements for a nicer, cleaner looking page.

Try using uBlock, also, it uses LESS CPU and it seems to be a lot faster, and it's pretty small compared to AdBlock.

This is all a cat and mouse game when it comes to adverts and in-line "in your face" DIV's are used instead of pop-up more often than not and i am starting to see sites that detect if add-blocks are being used and hide the pages if they are.

Some of the advert images are now hosted by the sites people are visiting and only the javascript come from the add-servers so we are getting to the stage where browsers will need something like script monkey built into them to stop any timers in the scripts from displaying DIV's but all ( I SAID ALL ) the browser's software houses are in bed with the corporations so as soon as one solution is found then these browsers will open up a new backdoor to keep their paymasters happy.

I for one will not be force feed anything that i don't want to see and have the skills to write some code that will fake-view all these adverts hour after hour if they don't get the message and want to play games like that because blocking is a defensive move and it can be turned into an offensive move if that's the way they want it.

As long as there can be money to be earn by advertising placements, there is going to be those that will call for ad blockers to be banned, or illegal.. or something of the sort. I have an ad blocker, ublock for Chrome (much better than "AdBlock") and AdBlock Plus for Firefox. Not only do I use browser extensions to block the advertisements, but I also use my hosts file to block the hosts itself. This seems to work 99% of the time, and it also helps you from getting adware/malware from some advertising networks. You have no idea how many times my hosts file has saved me.

The model of adblock is like they get paid by advertisers and they filter those ads. So surely they are just playing gate keeper. And people believe that they are being nice to have such plugins. But the advertisers are buying the inner access through that. So in that case it'd be reasonable to say that such type of the site may not always work as well. I guess we have to see how that works out.

So don't expect the adblock extension to be working in your favor. They are just making money off publishers and the advertisers. So that's how it works as well.

Definitely, pop up ads are the most annoying especially if the pop up page has a sound or audio that is on loud volume. I remember a long time when I was searching for websites that pay writers, I chanced upon several sites that have that annoying pop ups. Maybe that was one reason why I stayed with ChatAbout because even if money is slow, at least I am already earning and no more annoying pop ups. But I wonder why your Adblocker couldn’t block pop up ads. Isn’t it about the site itself that has a way of making the pop up appear?
