Hiring a Virtual Assisstant. Is it worth it? Or is it a waste of money?

Plenty of times when I'm talking of forums, chat board, skype, etc. I always see the question pop up "Is it worth it to hire a virtual assistant?" and I'm here to help you with an answer

Hiring a virtual assistant to do menial tasks like data entry. There are tons of Virtual Assistants who want to do data entry because it's an extremely easy thing to do. Hell, you could just pay $90 and have someone in India design some software that will do the data entry for you and that will save you the $90 a week that you would be paying the VA So for data entry, hiring a VA is pointless. The only reason you would want to hire one is if you have a bunch of money and you don't want to do small tasks. But even then you could just get the software designed for under $150 and then pay the VA like $30 a week to use it

Hiring a Virtual Assistant to do some social posts for you. This is the main reason I hire VA's because I can get them working 40 hours a week for $150 and the amount of leads that I generate after the first week usually pay for the VA. Some people reading this are saying "But if you're paying $150 a week for the VA and you're only making $150 a week, what's the point?" Well the money I make may pay for the VA and I break even, but the returning customers are the ones I'm looking for Making $150 off of the sales will pay for the VA the next week, then around 10% to 20% of the first week clients will come back each week and buy small packages. This will then make my second week profits at $220+ If you keep bootstrapping and have good VA's then you can compile a good amount of sales over time and quit your day job

I'm actually about to hire a VA for LinkedIn marketing and have them build 5,000 connections on my main profile and contact each connection as they come in. This way I don't have to worry about my LinkedIn marketing and the VA can handle all the lead generation. If I get just one client for my online marketing services it will pay for the $600 price tag of the dedicated VA for the month

I always get contacted on LinkedIn by Virtual Assistants. Most of them are garbage and just looking to make a quick buck, but the random few are golden and I keep in contact with them whenever I have work that needs to be done

I think that it can be very helpful to hire a virtual assistant, especially if you are too busy to see to the rather mundane tasks yourself. It all revolves around the tasks you need to get done, and if you are short on time to see to them. You need to consider whether it is more profitable for you to focus your time and efforts on the most important and specialized tasks, and then it may be feasible and cost effective to get a virtual assistant you can trust to see to the other smaller tasks for you.

It really depends on what your trying to do honestly. If you are starting a new bushiness and you have no experience in this field then its worth it to get started. You mentioned hiring someone is a different country and that might be a good idea but you could run into problems. Language barriers and other things like grammar and punctuation need to be taken into consideration. I agree about hiring a slave worker for a fraction of the price to cut cost its just risky and could be a waste of time and money. Data entry is probably the easiest thing to do the problem is that in the USA data entry positions start at above 12 bucks an hour. I would not do it for any less than $25, but i have about 5 years experience. Getting a piece of software to do all the work is great but 90% of the time its easier to just do the work yourself rather than spending hours writing code to fill out one form. Between bugs changing information and forms you have to be careful of your overhead.

Razzy I had a full time personal assistant working for me and I doubt I will ever have a full time employee ever again. I was so let down and so screwed over in the end.

I would much rather hire a virtual assistant one day when and if I need some extra work done. I won't hire someone with a permanent contract like I did before.

The thing is in our country that when you have hired someone you can't just get rid of them, you have to follow the labour relations act and do everything by the book which means unless your staff member does something seriously wrong it makes it very hard to get rid of them.

A virtual assistant will I am sure be cheaper than hiring someone full time and I am sure you won't have to struggle if you don't want to continue hiring that person.

Awesome how softwares takes a lot of work off our backs and save lots of money too, hiring a VA is important especially when you have to multitask, you dont want so much information before to over crowd your activities and get you confused, doing marketing, reach out and responding to clients enquiry is something you did want to assign to a VA. Well maybe not the responding to clients enquiry but you get where am coming from.

I think it's possible to hire virtual assistant. I don't think it's a waste of money. In fact if you want to hire the person for long term. Then it's definitely possible and reasonable for you to spend your efforts on that. You can see that people do take effort on right reasons. But sometimes you have to pay attention to the way results are given. Not all the time you have to train them but training them definitely helps.

Hiring a virtual assistant is never a waste of money because we would always need help whether online or offline.So how will a person helping out on clerical and other tasks be seen as a waste of money unless the employer is less busy but still employs a virtual assistant then this can be seen as a waste.

I think some tasks which can be automated on your own those tasks can be done even by you. And for that you don't need a virtual assistant. And that's something you have to understand for the work too. I personally have learned that some of the time virtual assistance requires a lot more efforts too. I don't know how many people can do things properly. I think some of the VA also make use of the automation so it's pretty much same cost.

It depends on the kind of work that you will assign to the Virtual Assistant. Another thing is the type of arrangement with the Virtual Assistant, will it be on a per project basis or on a per hour basis? For me, I would rather hire a Virtual Assistant that I know because it is not easy to deal with someone whom you do not really know personally. However, you can perhaps rely on the recommendations of people you know in the internet.

It really depends if you need one. But I know several virtual assistants who are making a good income from doing it. I think there's a big global demand for virtual assistants nowadays. This is because several international virtual assistant companies have come to the Philippines to set up shop like FreeeUp.
