Can't understand what's wrong with my laptop's internet connection!

I am really getting frustrated with this situation. Basically my laptop decides not to remain connected to the internet, and I have to restart it every time in order to get back online. I tried settings, turning off wifi and all for nothing. The connection is available, but it just does not connect to it unless I restart it. I thought it was something wrong with the modem, but then I realized that my phone and tablet remain connected without any problem. So it must be something wrong with my laptop! I cannot stand the fact that it is happening daily, sometimes even more than once! Any ideas what it could be or what I might do please? Thanks!

This occurs to me a lot, especially when the wifi attempts to automatically connect to a wifi connection. Sometimes it doesn't connect at all and I have to contact my Internet Service Provider so they can reset the entire system from their end. Nothing I tried works, so you may have the same problem as me, bad wiring.

Is your wiring bad in your house, or in the room that your modem is located in? Last time, I had to get one of the technicians to reroute a wire to a different port, and then stream the wire literally across the house. This was the only option for me, and it looked bad but the internet stopped going out.

Another option you may want to try is to make sure your wifi drivers are updated. If you're using Windows 10, try to see if there is a connection problem with the type of laptop you're using. Some wifi drivers from my own experience, are either too old, or too "new" for some systems, so no matter how many times you update, or reset the modem the problem won't fix itself. Now, another option to do is replace the wifi adapter, or try another one and see if that helps some.

This is why i always recommend being hardwired in. Does your laptop have a Ethernet connection? If not you can buy a USB adapter that will allow you to plug Ethernet in. Most places including hotels have Ethernet slots all you need is your own cable. I would also try to disable your adapter in network settings and then re enable it and see if that helps. Is your network private? Can you do an IP scan to see if anyone who is not authorized is accessing your network? People can steal your WIFI and use all of your bandwidth causing your devices to be un able to connect. The last thing i would try is getting a wireless adapter for 10 bucks at Walmart or another store and see if it works better. If the new device works without any problems your wireless card in your computer is going. Let us know if you get this issue resolved and i hope i was able to help! Thank You for sharing!

I'm like you, if I own a laptop, I want to use the wifi. If your modem is fine then it's definitely the operation system that triggers something to cut your wifi connection.

I recommend you re-install your Wireless Network Adapter driver or even search for a newer version, I had a similar problem in the past and the only way I manage to fix it was by updating my network adapter driver or just plain re-installing Windows, which is a big pain in the ass since you will need to backup everything onto another partition.

Oh geez that must be so annoying! I am so sorry you are struggling with your laptop disconnecting from the internet. When things go wrong with my laptop or any of my equipment I get so annoyed. I like to just turn things on and it must work exactly how I want it to without me having to struggle...

Good luck, I hope you have come right by now!

This is always happening to my daughter's desktop computer, with the wireless connection going out. But she is at the other end of the house from our modem, so I think that's why. I'm in the middle of the house, one room over from the modem and have no issues staying online. However, a couple years back, I had similar issues with my (now broken) Toshiba laptop staying online. For almost the entire month of January, the wifi connection would go out at a specific time every day, usually 3-5 pm and then randomly connect later on. I tried all the suggestions listed here and as many as i could find in the limited time I could get online daily. Amazingly, I was able to make the ethernet cord option work, though as indicated who wants to be on a corded internet when on laptop?

I think it came down to being a driver issue, when those finally updated properly I had fewer outages.

I'm good now with my current laptop and rarely have a wifi outage. Still trying to figure out what's up with her computer, though as I said, I think it's due to the distance from the modem. Though possibly something to do with driver updates too.

Well exactly, nobody wants to be connected to the internet now with an ethernet cord anymore. Everything is wireless for a reason. I'm sure your daughter is not very impressed with the arrangement LOL

She's very lucky to have her own desktop gaming computer in her own room Can Though she owned a computer since she was three years old. It's just a regular part of her life now. Sometimes, I tell her about being a kid and growing up without the internet and she gives me this *amazed face* as if to say, "How did you survive!?" Can

LOL I can just imagine how my kids are going to look at me one day. My daughter has just turned 5 and she won't even understand the concept of no internet yet.

She came home the other day and asked me if volcanoes are real. I said yes, so she said ok show me on Youtube.

She won't understand what I mean by "no Youtube" even!

There was a day such a thing happened with my laptop and the worst of it was that I could not connect with my smartphones either considering the fact that I just lost my smartphone then and that was one of the toughest days of my life for I missed so many things online. I would suggest you go into research of what might be the cause and see how you can sort it out yourself. That was what I did then as well.

In times like that technical problem, the first thing I usually do is to check if my anti-virus is working well. There was a time when we had a computer in the office that wouldn’t connect to the network properly. After several changes to the setting to no avail, one guy in the research team suggested that we run a stand-alone virus check. And that was the reason for the problem. Maybe you can run an online virus check for your laptop to eliminate that aspect of virus so you can get on with another direction for evaluation.
