Facebook will have its own Marketplace?

I don't know about your area and country but here Facebook groups for selling and buying stuff are becoming more and more popular. They tend to develop in a pretty natural way, for example, some people want organic grown meat and vegetables and they create a group for this to find the best places to purchase such food. In no time sellers appear and a whole natural marketplace develops on that group.

This leaves Facebook with a rather very interesting opportunity: the idea of developing its own marketplace. And guess what? They are going to develop that very same thing!

Here you have it, the Facebook Marketplace:

Looks cool right? I bet this will put tons of general marketplace websites niches out of business. I'm already thinking of ways to publish my own freelance services on such Facebook marketplaces.

As soon as you figure out what you want to buy you can contact the seller directly on Facebook and set up a time a place for the actual transfer to take place:

The whole process will be very easy if you think about it, all you need is the Facebook app on your phone and making a product description as well as taking pictures of the actual product is just minutes away.

Apparently, the Facebook marketplace won't be available for the entire world right away but it will be available in the following days for the USA, New Zealand, Australia and United Kingdom.

Well i can't see it in my country but from your post and screenshots it looks more like classified ads then real marketplace. As RaduV said if there is no real terms of services, paying process and payouts, no real regulations about shipping goods, then i wouldn't call it marketplace. Such group then could be created by anyone and i seen many so far, but it's nothing more then something similar to classifieds

The already have established a marketplace (see the groups where the users are selling everything to everyone) just that it's not regulated. It doesn't follow any rules and besides some public shame in case you are making fraud, they can't do anything to avoid cheating. I'm more inclined to use the real markets until they make some rules on how to sell / buy stuff in safe condition.

You can avoid being detected by doing some real-looking account and start doing business. Anyhow, from what I can see they are heading there so I will not be surprised if in couple of years it will be developed worldwidely.

I wonder if facebook is going to collect a fee if you sell something, or allow you to advertise your items/products the same way as you can by doing the 'promote' page advertising. This is very cool, and I can also see a lot of marketplaces shutting down when users will sell on there. For me, I don't want to sell on facebook, im sick and tired of facebook. What is a facebook anyway? Also, i think facebook wants to take over everything on the internet, so we'll have to go through them to get things done. People flock there in mass and i really don't know why.

This is going to be very interesting but like a few members have already commented it is not exactly a real marketplace but more like a classifieds. I also wonder very much about monitoring it and how this will be controlled? I wonder how this will work with fake Facebook accounts since there are loads of those so it would quite frankly make me a little edgy to make use of it.

Perhaps if they tighten up their security and somehow confirm people are real?

I have already seen in a lot of Facebook groups for a long time that there is an option to mark something for sale. I guess it was just a matter of time before they expanded on this concept.

I think they rolled out selling from groups feature. And that feature seems to be doing a lot better. I know this because I am part of some of such groups and it is working out for me. I have seen other people selling some products. Though not sure how many payment gateways are being used in this process. But it'd be fun to see how facebook can replace websites and some shopping sites.

Facebook has over the years created platforms in which many people that are willing to buy and sell their products and services can connect and do so without having to think about the risk of losing money. I have been using Facebook to buy for a long time now and I must say that it has been an awesome experience for me.

facebook launched marketplace in 2016. However, I did not know about facebook marketplace until recently. By launching marketplace, facebook is trying to attract people who are buying and selling online. Now, if you want to buy or sell online, you do not have to go else where. You can do it on facebook. However, I am yet to use this service.

I've used it before, like other marketplaces it is spammed a lot.. there are also a lot of scams, especially car and electronic scams. yet facebook really doesnt do anything.

I do not know about scam and spam because I have not bought anything from facebook marketplace. However, I have friends who sell crafts and they are doing well. Most of my friends who are selling on facebook are selling handmade jewelry.

I have been expecting this because Facebook was created as a simple social media to compete with Friendster. Maybe the owner, Mark Zuckerberg, did not imagine that his social media network would grow this big as to have 2 billion users. The kind of money that Facebook brought to him is too hard to estimate. Anyway, we can see that Facebook has some agenda aside from being a social media network. It is now flexing its muscles on its own search feature that later on may be a search engine.
