Cyber Security - Are You Safe Online?

  • Cyber Security for Families.
  • Cyber Security for Small Businesses.
  • Cyber Security for Family Owned Businesses

All three are things most people rarely think about or actually deal with unless there is a problem. These problems can be something that starts with clicking on the wrong link or opening the wrong email. Escalation can quickly turn into compromised banking, healthcare and social media credentials along with identity theft, and cyber bullying, stalking, theft of business trade secrets, and violations of HiPAA and other regulations.

We all need to know the basics. Just like our parents taught us (hopefully) to cross the street on a green light and stop on a red, and not to put fingers in electric sockets; now similar but digital things need to be taught to all generations for privacy, cyber security and safety.

Whether your family with multiple devices, multiple social media accounts and multiple ways in which both cyber security and reputation security can be breached — or a small business up to 20 people — or a small family owned business. Don’t let another few months go by without doing a basic overall assessment and strengthening of your cyber posture. Do not believe that you are not a target or “have nothing a hacker would be interested in.” That simply is not true. Everyone is at risk. Everyone needs to actually take steps to prevent and defend against cyber attacks of all types, against us and our families. Children and older people are especially vulnerable.

How do you prevent your self against cyber attacks?

Nowadays people are connecting even the fridge to the internet no wonder more and more people are looking for the way to improve their online security and protect their loved ones.
I myself have a very complex wifi password that I never tell anyone, not even my friends when they come to visit, the only persons that know the passwords is my and my wife. Also, the passwords don't match with any of my past and current passwords, it's unique with total random numbers and letters and in my opinion pretty impossible to break.

I also have a modem which is also protected by a password, don't know exactly how a hacker may approach things, but I think I'm pretty well secured. We also have antivirus on the laptop and NEVER download fishy stuff, used to use the laptop without an antivirus for years and I didn't had any problems, but recently I've installed one out of fear.

Well sir i love this article i am a internet security BUFF. I very often listen to "Security Now" when i finished i will post a link at the bottom. Basically all they talk about is new threats and how you can keep yourself safe. How do i keep myself safe online?

1. I do not answer any emails or open any that i do not recognize.

2. I make sure to not visit any websites i am not familiar with if i do i use VPN.

3. I always use an alias online to keep my true identity safe from criminals.

4. I do not download anything on the computer i use to shop online.

5. I use lastpass to keep all my passwords safe and i never use the same password twice.

These are just some of the ways i keep me and my family safe because as you say we are ALL susceptible to a cyber attack. Below im attaching the links to both Security now and lastpass.

I am also using Lastpass now like Jkeyz2. I don't open anything that looks suspicious or if the email comes from someone that acts like they know me when I don't know them. Things like people emailing me invoice attachments or a link to an invoice yet I don't have an account with that person.

I also get lots of emails with competitions won or that my account is now active yet I never visited those websites or entered into any competitions.

I think a big one is never to click to click on links in an email from your bank for example. Always type in your bank's url. I know this because my bank always lets me know when I log in that there are phishing scams going on and they tell me not to click on any emails from them that ask for passwords or login details of any kind.

I find today's world quite a sad place to be at times but if you stick to doing things in a certain way you should be fine. My motto is to be suspicious of everything!

Sometimes I think about the movie of Sandra Bullock, The Net, which was about identity theft. What happens when my email is hacked and my other accounts connected to the hacked email are manipulated? To be honest, I would be helpless when that happens. The only protection I have is the anti virus which is not directly related to the issue. Maybe I have to regularly change my passwords.

I tend to think that I am safe online, but in case of an emergency, I use https://spinbackup.com/products/ransomware-protection/ for their ransomware protection. It completely protects my computer from any outside interference. I am satisfied with its performance so far.
