How did you get started working on websites?

I get a lot of people asking me what I do for income and my basic response is usually something along the lines of "I work online helping website owners generate more traffic and sales" which is true, but a vague response of what I really do. But I didn't start doing this and that's why I'm posting this discussion How did you get started working on websites?

How did you get started working with websites?

I myself started playing around with websites in 2002 or 2003 and got pulled in because I read something that said "Make $750 a day by just posting ads on websites!" and I opened my wallet and spent $447 on a sh*tty system that didn't teach me anything except for what Google adsense was.

After I attempted to get my refund, which was almost impossible to do because of how they set everything up, I realized that I had to optimize my websites in order to get higher rankings and then get clicks on my adsense advertisements in order to make any money. So I started learning on page and off page optimization, or SEO.

Learning SEO over the next few years while still working a full time job was pretty brutal. I would work 8 to 10 hours a day and come home to work another 3 to 4 and not get paid for it. But I think it was worth it in the end because I started making a few bucks here and there on my websites after they started getting ranked.

After I was proficient in SEO techniques and methods I began to sell my own SEO services to people who needed help. I did pretty well with this until Google banned me from Adwords. I literally went from making $3,000 a day with a $75 a day investment into Adwords. Not a bad ROI, right? After I got banned I began scurrying around to figure out how to generate the most amount of high quality leads since I couldn't use the biggest PPC platform anymore. I started working around on LinkedIn and other PPC platforms but it just never was the same How did you get started working on websites?

Fast forward to today and I now work online full time and I'm still doing SEO for clients and I have a few services that make me some passive income How did you get started working on websites?

How did you get started working with websites?
I got started when I wanted to create my own online game. I wanted a text-based MMORPG game, think along the lines of those mafia style type of games. Yeah, those. I had a problem though, I didn't know anything about coding, what code to use, and was entirely lost. I was around 16 when I first found something called "opensource code". And messed around with that until I broke the code. I didn't know how to fix the script, and I googled how to fix the errors, and this is when I taught myself how to write PHP code.

How long have you been playing with websites?
Since I was about 16. So about 7 to 8 years in total. I usually play around each day to make my coding skills better.

Are you working online full time or are you part time?
I tend to believe I work full time online. I can not go on the internet and not make money. I would feel as if I was wasting my time since I am not being paid to have fun.

How did you get started?
I got started in 2006-2007 i believe. I started with the traditional and popular services that time, forum posting, Yahoo Answers, article writing and so on. I had to do this since i just started my university studies and i didn't had to much free time to get a proper job but still could use some cash. It was interesting, i remember that at some points the rates were so small that it didn't cover my expenses. However i continues because i needed the experience and the portfolio.

How long have you been playing with websites?
Soon after i start selling my services i decided that is time to start my own website. I had a small photos directory, a general blog, a blog about guinea pigs and my favorite, a solar energy blog(which brought me quite a nice income for a while). So i would say 7-8 years, but i didn't made a habit of having constantly an active website.

Are you working online full time or are you part time?
I am a Navigator on merchant ships so i can't work full time but whenever I have the chance i like to feel my laptop's keyboards.

Oh my gosh, so you spend a lot of time at sea? I am terrified of the open ocean. I wouldn't even go out on a fishing boat! I guess you don't always have a good internet connection when you are out at sea?

I also love working online. There is something so cool being able to make money for yourself just with a laptop!

Yes Lynne, i spend some time. Maybe 6 months a year, it gets easier with the time How did you get started working on websites?.
Yeah, i believe you can consider online money making as a noble job, not for everyone. Haven't you had the situation when someone asked you what you do for a living and you just had to resume all the activities to something that they can comprehend?

For instance, i was asked, during college, how i'm getting my pocket money because nobody saw me going to work. And I start to explain them that I'm promoting websites, doing SEO, link building etc... and they were looking to my like i was talking foreign languages. Then i resumed my work to "English-Romanian Translation' and everything was good.

Yes I have had some people quite confused as to what exactly I do and a good few others thinking that I am into MLM or online scams. Not exactly right?

But that was a while back, now people see all my websites and promotions on social media for a few websites so there is not so much confusion now. I just say online marketing.

I don't know what exactly a "Navigator" is, but I do have one question. Do you get access to internet whilst out at sea? This may seem like a dumb question, but some airlines actually do provide internet access so I am wondering if this was the same case for you as well?

Well Everett, yeah on some vessels there is a full time internet connection. Starting 2017 it will be compulsory to have full time internet connection on ships. Anyway, a Navigator is one of the Officers who is "driving" the ship, while is en route to some port.

It's a demanding job which implies a lot of things but it's also an interesting way to build up your character and test yourself in critical situations ( keep in mind that, during storms, you don't have where to run How did you get started working on websites?) )

Oh that will be handy right? It will make it so much easier to make money all the time, I bet you are looking forward to 2017!

Yes I am eager to 2017. First that i will be connected all the time and i won't be like from outer
space when i come home after 3 months and second reason is that i can keep track of my websites in real time.

And do loads of other things online too! I can only imagine because I am like so connected all the time what it must be like to be offline for 3 months!

I started working online in 2012 when my daughter was a few months old. I realized I hated what I did (bookkeeping) and I didn't want to do something I hated while my daughter sits in daycare so I can work hard to pay the daycare bill.

I opened an online baby store, to go in line with my new passion of being a mom. I knew nothing about working online and I learned very quickly that just having a website does not mean anyone will find me online. It took me a lot of trial and error to learn what I was doing and after a few years I closed my online store because I was learning better ways to make money online and I set up another two websites.

I have decided that blogging is what I want to do, so that is why I closed my online store How did you get started working on websites?

I am working online full time.

A website isn’t static; it’s dynamic. It’s ever-changing. The moment you accomplish something, you can add it to your website. You don’t need to print new copies of it and send it out to your contacts over and over; you just update it. People can continually come back and see what you’re up to.

Yes that is what I love about it too! You have such control over what you do and so much of it can be automated too.

One day, I found myself unemployed. I got tired of uploading my resumes into online databases and filling out job applications giving out all of my personal identifying information to people who keep it and I don't know if they secure it from identity thieves.

Wasn't getting any job offers. So I decided to hire me. My kids gave me a computer, paid for the Internet, and for the rest ... I was on my own! So I Googled “free website” and up popped a DIY app to build my own website. The rest is history.

The self-employment work-at-home road has neither been smooth nor easy. But it beats doing nothing and wasting precious time whining about how cruel and unfair life is. Amen! How did you get started working on websites?

In 2000, I published my poetry book. I was praised for my book, which encouraged me to do more writing. I began writing stories, however, my stories were not accepted. I took a lead from my journalist father and began writing articles for newspapers. Luckily, my articles were accepted. By the time I completed MBA, I was already publishing 3-4 articles in a month. Later I attended a writing course and honed my writing skills. Then in order to earn more, I began submitting to article publishing sites. After two years of writing I received my first payment. rest is history.

Some people may not realize that the great Charles Dickens didn't start out as the great author we all know. He used to write articles. Just like we ordinary people, he had to earn a living,

I think for me I started with geocities in 1999. And then made use of various online builders for the page. And then proceeded to different options over the years. And it was kind of hard to work on website and not earning anything. My skills were good and though payment was not much from clients. So working every now and then to establish the network. And it has managed to get more leads for me there. So hoping that as time goes on it'd be reasonable to see if the results come out the same for me. Hoping for things to change.

I was introduced to online writing in around 2005. The site was called gather.com, and we could earn by posting articles. Then I discovered Helium.com, it was also a writing site. After a while I got bored. I returned to online writing in 2010 by creating accounts on various writing sites including Hubpages and Squidoo. It took me two years to receive payments. When the writing sites began to collapse, I decided to launch my own website in 2015. However, my websites are not earning good amount yet.
