Could Twitter be the next YouTube? Twitter to share Video Ad Cash with its Users

Could Twitter Become the Next YouTube?

Twitter have announced on their corporate blog that they will share the revenue earned from ads in videos with its users and video creators. Up to now Twitter has only ever shared ad revenue with with its corporate partners like the NFL and CBS.

This move is possibly done in a bid to earn more of the current market share as it competes against other social media sites like Facebook, IG & Snapchat. They say this will allow all its users to "generate revenue at scale" although in the Twitter blog announcement post, it doesn't actually say how much people can earn.

Although on some digging around, tech news site ReCode say that Twitter are planning to share up to 70% of the revenue their video ads earn with the video creator. Twitter say on their blog that people who are approved will have an option to have their videos play commercials before playing.

The video ad revenue sharing will only be available to US resident users at first. And you will probably need to meet some minimum requirements at fist, that could be age of account, amount of followers etc. As well as possibly an update to their terms and conditions and you agreeing to something new.

Twitter have just recently extended the time length that videos can be from 30 to 140 seconds. Possibly as another bid to try and recapture some of the market.

Aside from allowing people to monetize its videos in the same way as YouTube kind of does already. They are rolling out seamless product support across desktop & mobile to make publishing and monetizing on Twitter as effortless as sending a Tweet!

Creators can now upload, manage and publish media more efficiently and effectively than ever before across both Desktop (via the new Media Studio) and Mobile (via the Twitter Engage app). Media Studio, which replaces video.twitter.com, provides a comprehensive Desktop destination where you can access all of our publishing tools and resources.

Key Twitter Video upgrades include:
  • A new unified media library (videos, GIFs, and images)
  • New Tweet scheduling / planning capabilities
  • Team management and multi-account support
  • Improvements in stability and upload performance

It seems like a lot of businesses are starting to share their revenue with the authors, and in twitters case, video creators. It's a great business model because it pulls people in to generate content on your website, and well all know that content is everything in the search engines Could Twitter be the next YouTube? Google definitely has a strangle hold on the video sharing niche, but empires are taken over all the time in history. I wonder if twitter is gearing to take the priority shares/traffic from Google and keeping it for themselves Could Twitter be the next YouTube? Twitter to share Video Ad Cash with its Users

Will you be signing up to the program and taking advantage of it?
Possibly. I don't really do much, or any, video marketing right now because I haven't had a need for it. I know I should be doing it to pull in leads from long tailed keywords, but I just don't have the time Could Twitter be the next YouTube? Twitter to share Video Ad Cash with its Users Actually, I should rephrase that.... I'll be signing up, I just don't know if I'll use it the same way other marketers will be lol Could Twitter be the next YouTube? Twitter to share Video Ad Cash with its Users

Could this move see Twitter become the next YouTube?
It's definitely a possibility. I think that it's a good move to convert it's already massive member list into even bigger content generators because they'll now be getting paid to do so. I don't think it will be over night, but over a year or two you will definitely see them taking a good chunk of the traffic. With twitters authority they will begin ranking fairly quick in the videos tab on Google, Yahoo! and Bing so it's kind of tough to assess how much their traffic will increase. Only time will tell I guess Could Twitter be the next YouTube? Twitter to share Video Ad Cash with its Users

For many years, Twitter is my favorite social media network when it comes to international socializing and marketing. In the past i already found few different ways to monetize presence on Twitter and make my time and efforts to pay out on my own. So this new Twitter offer is actually attractive and i bet that many users would love to jump in to monetize accounts and get paid directly by Twitter. BUT... Yeah, at the moment available to USA citizens and companies first, so i couldn't feet in probably, and application form looking more like business and organizations orientated as you can see by required fields in application form....

However, in the future this can be interesting and i believe that Twitter could compare to YouTube once this option is open to international members outside United States. I will probably sign up for this program too, once it's available to my country as well, so i can use my experience and influence but it still can be small chunk of monetization in compare to how i was monetizing it so far Could Twitter be the next YouTube? Anyway, i am interested to jump in Could Twitter be the next YouTube? Twitter to share Video Ad Cash with its Users

No video network can take on Youtube at this very moment. Not even a big company like Twitter. Seems like nice improvements, they are definitely trying their best lately to come up with new stuff to keep users happy.

I think every social media is getting into video at the moment because is the right thing to do, video is the future of content.

Oh this is way cool, but once again I am always bummed by the fact that US gets everything first LOL.

I am so keen to jump on board with monetizing videos through Twitter but I will have to wait until this option is available in my country, South Africa.

Those new features look great. It is about time they allowed scheduled tweets, this will make like so much easier for those people that don't use any external social media tools and software. I'm also pleased to see team management and multi account support.

Now they just need to be able to turn off private messages completely so that spam fest in my inbox comes to an end!

So yeah, what do you think about this move by Twitter?
I think it's a great move. My only concern is, what will Twitter video stars be called? Twitterers? LOL

Will you be signing up to the program and taking advantage of it?
Possibly, I may even be a Twitterer, who knows! I'm hoping it functions kinda like Youtube does in a way, and hoping it can generate revenue just for the common person.

Could this move see Twitter become the next YouTube?
I would sure hope so. If it does become the next Youtube, and if it is better than Youtube, then Youtube needs to redefinite what their website is!

Thanks for sharing as I was not aware of this. To answer your questions,
What do you think about this move by Twitter?
I truly think that it was a very good idea and it could actually help Twitter to get even more people using it.

Could this move see Twitter become the next YouTube?
I truly think that after some time it will be doing almost as good as YouTube. There is no doubt that YouTube is a giant when it comes to videos, but with all the people that use Twitter, and who will now be interested in making the most out of this so as to earn something as well, I really think that this move was a very intelligent one.

It has been over a year since this thread was posted, however, I am not aware of this Twitter feature. Has this revenue sharing model been implemented?
I don't think any site can replace Youtube. When facebook launched video feature, a lot of people predicted that there will be a tough competition to youtube, however, it did not happen. Therefore, I believe twitter sharing revenue with the users and video creators will never help it become next youtube.

I love anything that is for the good of mankind. When YouTube started its program of monetization to share revenues to uploaders of videos, I was so glad because people can have extra money as a sort of consolation for their effort in creating and uploading their videos. Now comes Twitter. And it that materializes then I’m sure Twitter will be deluged with posts of videos.
