Should we still title ourselves as SEO's?

When we all started, we were known as SEO's (search engine optimizers) but over the years, SEO has evolved into a much larger thing than just fixing a few things on your website and posting a link here and there.

I know that in my own experience I was doing plenty of SEO in the past and started to branch out because I quickly found out that just optimizing my pages wasn't enough. I began backlinking my pages, doing press releases, building content on third party websites and talking about my sites, and so much more. I slowly got into website design so that I could do exactly what I wanted with my sites and even get some web designs up for clients that had my link in their footer for my own SEO purposes. But the people who do everything there is to do for a website should have a different title than an SEO.

What titles do you think would fit best for someone who builds websites for themselves as well as their clients, does SEO for themselves and their clients, answers questions to people who are just starting out, testing methods to make money online and so many other things?

Would it be better to just stick with the title "SEO" or should we try to branch out and label ourselves as something different since we don't just do SEO anymore? I myself say that I'm an "Internet Marketer" or "Online Marketer". what do you call yourself when asked by friends or family members?

Razzy, I would go for: Web Developer and Digital Marketer. Sound good enough, in my opinion, it's also modern and pretty fancy. I agree that the term "SEO expert" is pretty overused and highly overrated.

But remember this, no matter what you use, there is always going to be people claiming to be just that but having probably just 10% of the skills needed to be a fully functional "Digital Marketer" for example. Don't know exactly how we can differentiate between "experts" but Mike's idea on giving everyone tests is cool.

Hi Razzy thanks for your question. You asked our professional related question how we title us. When I start to work on freelance marketplace in that time this type of profession was very uncommon or unfamiliar in our country and many people asked me what I do on interment? I always tried to answer them several ways. But many people was not understand. But now time is change and many people aware about our profession. I simply use 2 work first internet marketer or outsource contractor. What I do, it does not matter. I may do SEO or SMM. But simply I am internet marketer. So, still I love to expose myself as internet marketer.

Razzy, I think "Digital Marketer" will be the better word to express ourselves rather than "SEO" OR "SEO Expert".

Actually the word SEO & SEO Expert is misused by the guys who even don't know the meaning of it. They just started working like a blogger OR Blog Commentor & name them self "SEO"

Marketing expert if also good enough, this is my official title at work even though I'm an SEO expert in essence.
