Should I go for shared or dedicated hosting?

So a I have mentioned in a few posts over the last few days I am expanding the amount of sites I have, and I am looking to make a few more blogs, to add to my network. Currently I have been buying them from a seller who incudes hosting, domain and content, which is great for now but I have one issue. The only way I think the seller is able to offer hosting in the cheap package is by using shared hosting and I think that may cause some issues. Now I don't really know how shared hosting works as I use dedicated for my money sites but I imaging that it is one server assigning a different port to each site. This would, if my theory is correct, mean that they would all have the same IP address.
So, if I buy five sites from the seller and he places them all on the same hosting server, they all have the same IP, would the search engines still value their backlinks to my site as if they were each on separate IP's? I have seen web hosting that offers unlimited websites with up to five IP's so I know it is possible for them to have individual ones, but how do I know the seller will go to all that trouble for the price?

To have backlinks from different IP addresses if definitely better, either it's from your websites or someone else's. If you doing this for sole purpose to build private blog network, it's not smart idea to keep all or most of sites on same IP. Specially when it comes to get backlinks for your money site, you better be careful. I bet someone else here will give you better advice regarding your question.
Also using shared hosting can be ok, but depend how much traffic you get on so many websites. Dedicated serves are better idea if you can afford them, when it's about some high traffic money making website

I use shared hosting, as it's cheap. However, I will say if you do a simple IP search of the domains hosted than it will either be scammy, virus or porn sites associated. I should definitely look into dedicated hosting, but since this hosting serves my needs I keep putting it on the back burner as it were. I have used dedicated hosting once, and it cost me about $75/month ages ago. It just came to be too much at the time, and it's what I thought I needed to run everything but it just turned out that I needed a lower hosting plan for everything. So if you need a dedicated hosting then go for it, plans start at about $105/mon, and you could possibly get a deal.

I was going to ask how do I know if I am on shared hosting or not and I am assuming I am on shared hosting because I don't pay anything like that for my hosting.

My one website is through my sister's company and she has never invoiced me... and then my other two websites are hosted by Wealthy Affiliate and is included in my membership fee of $72 a month. I can have like up to 50 websites there if I want to.

So yes I must be on shared hosting.

go for shared if you are not sure, dedicated is much more work if you are not buying fully managed service

I think more important question is what is your budget. And how much money you can afford to put into the hosting. I have very low budget and I prefer to invest less than 100$ a year on hosting. So I go with the shared hosting. And in such case the dedicated hosting is not for me. I would use the shared hosting as long as it gives me some profits. That is for sure. And also for those who have money VPS is better option over the dedicated server.

Of course is dedicated hosting because it used dedicated resources and your website is quite fast if putting on a dedicated server hosting. Other than that, for new websites with less traffic, I would suggest to go with a shared hosting because it is cheap and requiring less budget.
