How many times should I submit my site to Google?

And, would multiple submission of the same site or various pages be considered search engine spamming?

Submitting for getting index? Well just once and from my point of view not even then. Just get some good backlinks, publish some unique quality content and you'll eventually get indexed in a natural way. Usually takes a few days to a couple of weeks.

Does that mean that you don’t really need to submit your site to Google if you have been uploading fresh articles on your site? I am wondering why there are many discussions about submission of site to Google as if it is the only way to get indexed. If the content can make your website be indexed in Google then that is the best way to do it. Just publish quality contents frequently.

Can you elaborate on the robot.txt that you mentioned? What is it all about and what is the relation of that robot.txt with the indexing of Google to the site? What I understand about submission of the site to Google is for the purpose of being indexed and thereby be included in the search list. But for new sites it takes time and sometimes a long time before it can be recognized by Google and other search engines.
