Free tools and other giveaways

What do you think about developing small usefull tools and give them for free as a form of gaining popularity and therefore earning natural backlinks?

For example let's say Seocheckout can offer a form of website analysis of on-page SEO. That will be very cool and useful for a lot of people, having a Tools section.

I think this idea can be applied for most niches and will lead in way more traffic, backlinks and conversions. What do you guys think?

Yes Cristian, there is no doubt that giveaways do attract more people, and encourage them much more effectively to consider whatever you are offering. It might be a good idea to increase popularity and gain even more followers.

Not only on SEO niche, you can do this on fashion for example. Offer some sort of guide one how to measure yourself or even a convertor of some sorts, like from inches to centimeters. Simple things that can drive more traffic and make people stay around longer.

It sounds great Cristian... however I have seen some people giving away software and tools and a lot of it looked dodgy to me. How would you make someone like me feel safe and perhaps downloading software?

I mean I trust YOU as I have had plenty of dealings with you, but I don't trust people in general online.

Something that irritated me the other day was a website where the guy seemed so knowledgeable and I was really enjoying his website and he offered a free software to gain traffic from your niche. I was like wow, this must be good and I nearly downloaded it.

Thankfully first I went and researched this software and it really appeared so dodgy. I could explain what he offered but that would take forever. I just wonder how safe it is to download and use tools you find online.

When I said tools, I was referring to online tools and pages. No real software download needed for such tools. Stuff like analyzers, calculators and other kind of similar scripts.

You are right, nobody will trust an unknown source for downloading software.

Sorry Cristian, that maybe came off a bit harsh... I wasn't meaning it wouldn't work. I am just sharing my experience and asking how you would get around that. Free tools and other giveaways

Its sounds good. But who's going to take the first step?

Anyone that wants to gain popularity and backlinks by offering a free quality service. Maybe those free tools can later develop into more complex ones that you can sell as premium.
