What brand of laptop do you buy?

Do you always stick to a brand when you buy a laptop or do you play around with brands when you get a new one?

I'm a Dell girl. I have always bought Dell and I am very happy with the purchases I've made.

My husband prefers Acer and he has also always bought Acer. He says Dell is expensive and that Acer gives the same performance for a better price.

One the biggest selling points for me is that within the guarantee Dell will come out to repair your laptop at your premises if anything is wrong. I detest the thought of having my laptop being sent away.

So what are your preferences and why?

I don't really know much about laptops and for that sort of thing I just get my sister's advice. I asked her advice 7 years ago which laptop I should get and she said Dell and that was it. I just went with that and I stick with it What brand of laptop do you buy?

Yeah as long as the repair is due to a Dell fault and it is under guarantee they will come to you wherever you are and repair it on site. With my first Dell laptop I had a problem within a few weeks with the screen. I have to admit that when I paid about R10 000 for that laptop at the time and the screen went faulty I was quite irritated but I have to say that I called them and within a day they had a technician with me that replaced the screen very quickly and efficiently at my home. I paid nothing... so yes that impressed me.

i personally do not have a laptop so this is a great post i mentioned in an other post that i was interested in buying one, i like how you took the time out to mention that dell will send some one to you in order to fix things up , i do not think i have heard any thing like that being done before , that could be a really convenient thing as having to send your lap top out for repairs could potentially effect business and i do not think any of us want that to be honest

Yes that was the big selling point for me. My laptop is my baby, I just can't be without it. It feels awful. Now that the guarantee is over I had to send it away to get the HDD replaced and it felt awful.

Well, I care about the brand.
My parents got a laptop, a HP. The clock speed on that computer was only 1.61 GHz (Not good) the computer would constantly freeze up and since I do video & graphic design this would cause a delay. The graphics and everything were good but the computer could not keep up. It had 4 GB of ram and 500 MB hard drive. HP stopped selling this model because how bad it was. I will never buy a HP laptop again, simply because they aren't good.
Today I have a Toshiba laptop which is great and I absolutely love it. The reason I got a Toshiba was my grandfather kept saying how great his was, but his was from 2004. But it lasted over 14 years with no problems. HP seems to be falling behind especially for a company that focuses on laptops, there computers just can't keep up.
My toshiba has 3.7 GHz, 8 GB ram, 1 Terrabyte and it is my best laptop so far.

I think you make a good point you know some times people do end up just paying for brand, but you make a valid stand cause certain brands are higher brands for a reason, as a buyer i believe you have too it is a must to check the specs on what your buying you do not want to buy nothing off the faith of the brand that it will be good, you have to take your time with your options , it is smart to after well know brands as they are usually better quality then the less known brands

A laptop that has lasted 14 years... well that is certainly something! Thank you for sharing that, that is something I will keep in mind next time I buy a laptop!

I have brought brand new HP Pavilion laptop with core i3 processor and 4 GB ram and 1 tb HDD.

I had an HP Pavilion too and it was quite good. If it had not been for an accident where it fell off the table I think it would be still working great.

It is so interesting how so many people have different experiences with different brands. I've never had an HP before but so many people have told me that they have had a bad experience with HP.

to me i would have to go with a apple mac book pro, i have always been of what apple has too offer and i know from experiance that you are less likely to deal with crashing and freezing with apple products the only thing is it might efffect your pockets a little more then you want it too, other than that the specs on it are it runs off mac os has 128 gb dive, 8 gb of ram and a 2.9 GHz processor, personally i think it runs really smooth ill leave that to you too decide, good luck

I had an HP laptop which was great and it held off well considering I used it for many hours every day for some 5 years. But then the battery used to go dead after a couple of minutes, and so it had to be plugged in all the time, shortly after that my dog came running and pulled the cord and smashed it off the table, The result a cracked laptop which started to short. I bought the cheapest laptop I could find at the time, an Asus and it is not bad. The worst brand I ever experienced was Acer so I would not recommend that.

LOL I know what you mean. My Dell laptop has been thrown twice by my kids but it still works great, well except for the HDD that had to be replaced recently. I've had it for 3 years and that is the only thing I have had a problem with.

My previous Dell was 4 years old and it didn't survive the coffee that I fed it.

I have been using Lenovo since 2012 and I would NOT suggest you to use it. Wish I could buy a different brand of laptop then. But I was not well aware about the technology. And I am paying the price till now.

Sounds like you having bad experience with Lenovo. What is downside of it as per your experience? Why don't you like it? Is it bad quality parts or what?

I have a Lenovo Laptop that I bought at a very cheap rate and I am very happy with it. When it was new, I used to open even 15 tabs on it at once, never gave any problem but now its been 4 years since I bought it, it is having some issues but still I think it provided me a great value for money.

Well these days 4 years for a laptop is not bad for it to start giving problems. My expensive Dell laptop is 3 years old and I just had to replace the HDD. It is the first problem I have had with it.

yeah, i bet cheaper prices is mostly connected to lower quality... I have seen a lot of people also happy with Lenovo brand, so i guess there is bit of luck involved too What brand of laptop do you buy?

Oh I would be peeved off, especially because I use my laptop daily so I would've probably killed it by now.

I'm sorry you have had such a bad experience, there is nothing worse for me than when things just don't work.

Hi Lynne thanks for your question. I do not know how to tell you which band laptop so good. Because I have 12 laptops and most of the from different brand. I have one Sony vio laptop, one Toshiba, Four Dell, Four HP, Two Compaq laptops. So, for me all band alright. But, when I am going to purchase any product I consider all configurations first than brand. But I mostly like Sony and HP computer than all other computers. And I completely avoid Accer band. I have bad experience on it. I never used Samsung laptop. So, next time, it may Samsung first choose.

Oh wow, so I can tell my hubby Acer sucks LOL. I always knew it. He is always trying to convince me to buy Acer for some reason, he swears by them.

I have been using HP for a long time. My laptop and computers are from HP. Their prices are good and I have no problems with their machines. I considered getting a custom built computer and laptop but I decided not to because I wanted to stick with HP as I believe in their quality. That does mean I have to pay more but I rather do that to get a better machine. I don’t want to change brands because I may have problems with them so I tend to stick with HP. However, I might build my own computer next time.

I always buy HP printers but for some reason I don't like the idea of buying an HP laptop... I'm not sure why though but I have some sort of mental block against it lol.

Hi Lynne
I'm an HP guy and happily using HP laptop from last 4 years. In the meantime I also tried Acer but it was horrible experience for me. Few month ago I bought "Acer Aspire E5-574G-016 Core i7-6500U 1TB 8GB 2GB" it was great experience at start and every feature was like awesome! but then, some hardware malfunctioning happened and it stopped charging. Then after a few hours its operating system got collapsed and I had to get it to workshop. Its battery got expired in two weeks and I couldn't even claim the warranty.

Then I decided to sale it and get back to HP again. Now I'm using HP Probook and everything is just fine now What brand of laptop do you buy?
I'm sure Acer is a good and reliable brand but I'm not gonna try it again.

Oh wow Meetazeem. Yes I guess when you have one really bad experience with a product you won't go back there again!

It makes me think of Russell and Hobbs LOL. That is supposed to be such a high end brand. My husband bought me an expensive smoothie maker when I was pregnant. It lasted only a month and it packed up. My hubby forgot to keep the slip so we could do nothing.

I was very upset and I don't care how good that brand is I will never ever buy it again!

All our computers at home are desktops and this is the first time we are acquiring a laptop. There is a current promo of an HP 348 laptop for only $900 which is very attractive. We are reviewing the specs and we will buy within this week. My official computer in the office is an HP Elite which I have been using for 3 years now. So maybe I am sticking to HP.

I like Dell because they're reliable. I have an old Dell laptop from 2003 that still works as a backup if I need it. My current Dell laptop I bought second-hand 4 years ago so I could keep using Windows 7. It's been working fine for me.
