Discussing prices for content writing - what are your views?

I often check the Want To Buy section to see if there is something right for me. I often find WTBs such as this one - ?I need a responsible worker who can write me about 20-25 articles per month. 20 of them need to be 500-word articles, and 4 must be from 1000-2000 word articles. It is almost daily work. They should be SEO articles, and they must be written in good English. I can give you 20 $ per month. You will be paid at the end of the month.

When I see posts such as this one I start questioning myself how can there be people who are willing to write all those words for $30? And how is this buyer expecting people to provide good quality content at that meager rate?

We are saying -

  • 20x500words = 10,000words
  • 4x1500words average = 6,000words
  • ?So that is 16,000words in all! And the writer would be getting less than $3 per article.

Do you agree with these kinds of rates? Do you think it is fair to offer those rates? It is like slave labor!

I personally don't agree and i wouldn't work for such low price. After so many years in freelancing. offer like that don't even surprise me, i got more surprised by bids made, like "Hire me sir please"... Oh i feel bad about it. I asked my self many times, how desperate one have to be to do such thing... I know there is a lot low cost leaving countries and some students could afford to work for such money, specially if they spinning articles, but yet i wouldn't go so low and i would let him do it him self. Every job should have it's value and most of us need more then $3 to eat...

Actually I was amazed that there were people to placed a bid on this WTB. However I doubt that they will be able to offer good quality services and put in much effort into it.

I write all my own content for my websites and it takes me ages to do. I recently had someone contact me and ask me to write some content freelance for them. The offered me $75 for each 500 word article I write. I said no, not a chance. I don't freelance and for that sort of money it is a waste of my time when I could spend that time writing for my own websites and earn a lot more money.

So I totally agree with what you are saying, people want quality yet they are offering less than $3 per article? I would be insulted if anyone offered me that.

$75 for a 500word article is a lot. I wish I were paid at those rates! However if you feel it takes you too long to write an article I understand that it will still be low to you.

As you said it is insulting to offer those rates, yet many people actually do.

I've seen stuff like this before and it's just from people wanting to pay as little as possible to get the best of the best, which doesn't happen Discussing prices for content writing - what are your views?

I've actually found some good writers, but the lowest I've ever paid was $3.50 per 100 words lol. The articles were well written and the writers origin language was English, just what I was looking for. Obviously if you need something written in Hindi you'll be able to find a writer that you can pay $3 per article because the exchange rate from USD to Rupees is quite high. So when we pay $3 to them it's the same as if someone were to give us $6 or $30, roughly (I'm not 100% sure of the exchange rate). Think of it this way, a medical doctor makes equivalent to $40 to $55 a day and if someone is writing full time and making $3 an article... They can make quite a bit of money in relation to their currency. And since paypal and other platforms will convert the money for you into your own currency, it's perfect for people over seas to write for website owners in the USA Discussing prices for content writing - what are your views?

Price that you will set, is completely depend on you. If you know what you're doing is good, don't feel shy to ask higher price. There are clients who are absolutely fine to offer higher price for quality work.

I think some of the low cost outsourcing of articles results in low pricing. And as price goes down so does the quality. But buyers don't want to admit that. Some of the time you can see that content writing requires a lot of hardwork and not many people accept that part. Instead they choose to go with the low cost gigs. And people who do such gigs end up in burn out and may not deliver.

Gee, isn’t that a kind of slavery already? However, in fairness to the advertiser, writers are not forced and that’s just an offer. But I’m sure there will be suckers for that ad since I know that there are writers who are in dire need of money. And I will bet my bottom dollar that the content will not be of good quality since the focus of the writer is the earnings and not really the subject matter. That’s one issue with a hired writer, it’s like leading the horse to the water but you cannot force it to drink.

When I started writing online, I began publishing on writing sites like helium, hubpages and squidoo. ON these sites, I earned from the revenue generated by my articles. helium had a marketplace where the users could write for the marketplace. I wrote a lot of 500 word articles for $4. Later, I joined upwork(called odesk back then). In order to gain reputation, I applied on the writing jobs that offered $3 for 500 word . I wrote a lot of articles for this rate.

There's this job portal and someone posted a job about 20 articles no less than 2500 words per article arranged in 18 chapters, "hmmm I think I know what this is for, I told myself", the contract net of commission is about $260, so that's about $13 per article, I then investigated further, I message the client for details and he sent me a file to download hahaha the file he sent me contains his post in another site upwork and it says 20 articles for $30 a piece, so that's $600. I then logged into my upwork account and proceeded to his post and messaging him there using my other name, I found out he's willing to pay $30 per article but only after its been approved as an Ebook in Amazon Kindle. So to make it short there are people out there who are always on the lookout for suckers. It's not illegal, it's democracy at work.

Where does all these lead to?
Simply put,

Good Writers won't do the job.

Average Writers may or may not push through with it. Depends on their economic situation. Which is quite understandable.

Bad Writers would probably do it but they probably won't get paid.

Intelligent writers would probably just make ebooks and sell it in Amazon for continuous profit.

Enterprising writers would simply commit plagiarism and do a rehash by using the new article maker program which rewords and expands articles, the one that automatically searches the net for additional content and suggests it via auto format. Making articles really long and easy to make hahaha.

Having said all that, the question remains,

Which Kind Of Writer Are You?
