Do you prefer website builders, or prefer building a website yourself?

About 8 years ago, I decided I wanted to have a gaming website. I new nothing about what was needed to actually build a website, so I just decided I would use a free website builder, sort of like "Weebly". I tried to build a MMORPG text-based game with a website builder, and little did I know that this certain website builder didn't allow for code, and I knew nothing on programming languages. So the game turned out to be the worst MMORPG probably on the internet, and no one even played it. This was my first experience of website builder applications, and probably my last.

Have you ever decided to use a website builder? Did you have great success with it? Which website builder have you used?

I don't use website builders or custom code

Well, I use wordpress themes a lot and I guess that could be considered a website builder since I didn't do it myself Some of my themes have pretty extensive back ends and I can actually edit anything I want with the look of the site from the builder within the theme.

I've used website builders in the past and I was never satisfied because they always looked horrible compared to my competition who probably paid thousands for their designs. I wanted something to be on the same level as them and that's why I usually go for wordpress premium themes that fit my niche.

I have paid designers to build my websites in the past and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. Web design isn't where I'm normally limited, it's usually the programming on the back end that I need to outsource since the programming for each website could be extremely different. Specific features you want may have to be custom coded. And even if there is a script out there that does what you want, if you don't know how to apply it, you'll have to pay someone to do it

So in the end I'd say that I prefer to purchase wordpress themes that have a builder built into it in case I want to edit anything. And I do like doing my own websites, but I don't have the programming knowledge in order to do the custom features I'd like to do, so I pay someone with the skills to do it

Have you ever created your own code using PHP? Is wordpress your "go to" software for website development? I personally don't like Wordpress for other applications other than blogging. I don't like their setup, and you can't seem to move away from the blogging aspect even if you develop a website using their engine it can still look and function like a blog.

I know some pretty cool website builders but I prefer making website from scratch. There are many people who will prefer website builders as it consumes very less time but I abstain the process because I like to see my own creation.

I am the same way, now at least. Some website builders try to get you to use them by saying you are in total control of how the website looks, however you simply can not remove links to the designer who developed the layout your using, or the plugin you used for a specific function. If you were in total control you'll be able to remove any link, or any content that you don't necessarily want on your website.

If the website you need to create is going to be a basic one, you know, homepage, about us, contact us pages, and no fussy features - then a website builder is ideal. If on the other hand you expect to add product pages and have lots of products, and you intend to sell over the the site and have to set up an ecommerce store, then it is not a good idea to opt for a website builder. It also depends on the traffic you expect to get and how professional you want the site to look. WordPress offers great options but it still has some limitations if you do it for free.

If you're going to be selling products you should probably hire a designer to design a branded template for you. I totally agree with this. Using a website builder and selling products doesn't seem very trustworthy in the eyes of the consumer. They may think it was done cheaply, and that it may be a false website, and the website will be forever tarnished. It's hard to gain back trust online with all the wrong doings that tend to go on.

I use website builders for my blogs. I don't come close to having the knowledge or skills needed to build my own website.

I am a member of Wealthy Affiliate University and I build my websites through them which suits me very nicely. I have everything I need there.

Have you ever wanted to create your own website with your own code? Creating websites with my own code is one of my hobbies. I spend hours upon hours tweaking, or creating code. I have been creating websites since I was about 15-16, and during this time is when I learned to code PHP.

Maybe you should at least try and code something? It's a skill you can develop and probably at some point in the future you could monetize it - just like I do. But I understand it's like looking at gibberish, but you'll eventually get use to it if you decide to start. I believe everyone should learn to code.

When I first started making websites, I use website builders because I have no knowledge in coding and it was extremely easy to use. Now, depending on the project, I use both. For more serious projects and ones that I need custom features, I would hire a web designer to create the website for me and for other less important websites, I would simply use a website builder to save money. I have used Weebly and RV Site Builder before. Both are great although I prefer RV Site Builder more. Weebly is good but I don’t like the fact that you need to pay to have all the good features.

You sound just like me. About 8 years ago is when I started to learn to code. I got fed up with having to pay for simple features, so I ventured out and decided I would learn to create websites. Not only would I learn to create websites with code, I also learned how to design websites.

This was probably one of the greatest actions of my "online career". I now offer services for PHP coding, and sell PHP scripts that I have coded myself. I monetize my skills, and haven't looked back since. Perhaps you could do the same?

I haven't tried building a website, but it is something I might try sometime. I know you can build a website in about an hour using certain specific sites, so why not? It seems like something that would be worthwhile and not that difficult to do.

it always good to use website builders because they'll do far better job than one trying to do it themselves. I started my blog myself but along the way it needed a professional touch so I had to bring in an expert to help redefined it for me and he did a far better job than I did.So to me using an expert is better and the best.

I have to admit that I have zero knowledge in website creation now although I had a short stint in testing Dreamweaver. If I will start up a website of my own, I would probably hire a website designer to make my life with a website simpler and better. A web designer knows the ins and outs of website and webpages that I’m sure I can get a good advice on how to make my planned website. Make it faster to access with simple images or short videos or even animation. But not to forget, my website design should be responsive so it is compliant with mobile browsers.
