What do you think about all these new custom domain TLD's?

It all started with the .com then .org and .net came about, then .co.uk etc etc

Now though you have many funky TLD's (Top Level Domains) like .club .rocks .guru and the like.

Now they are getting even crazier! There are now TLD's like .ninja .plumbing .tube .pizza .beer even .sucks and .meme (yes you can get a .meme domain) .unicorn and .ninja .rehab .transformers just to name a few ridiculously crazy and silly tld's!

What do you think of these new TLD's released by ICANN? Do you think they serve a purpose? Example. You could have eastlondon.plumber and that's quite descriptive or something like tonis.pizza and you know what that is from the TLD alone.

I've grabbed loads of .clubs, a couple .rocks but that's about it. I've never purchased another TLD yet but am definitely going to as an experiment soon just because they're soo much fun to play around with as a churn and burn domain.

But the only thing is, you don't really see them ranking high for very popular keywords. Most top 10 results are dominated by .com's and the like.

Have you purchased any of these new TLD's? What's the most craziest one you've purchased?

Also, do you think that the TLD can help with ranking? In that some TLD's are very descriptive and are basically another word in the domain name.

What's some other crazy TLD's? Will these last or are they just a passing gimmick?

I will be very short on this subject, .com is still KING! As you said:
you don't really see them ranking high for very popular keywords

True and i am not sure if it worth investing in them except it's pure fun.

Perhaps these new TLDs will serve a much better purpose in the future. You mention that descriptive domains such as "tonis.pizza", I see companies buying up domains that fit within their brand. Why wouldn't you want to buy a domain name such as "companyname.services", or "cityname.rentals"? As you both has said it is fun, such domains as ".ninja" or ".meme" are probably only for entertainment purposes. I believe ICANN is trying to make revenue by creating fun and business-like domains. On the other hand, it is extremely hard to find the perfect domain because they are all taken! I hope some day in the future the search engines will rank these TLDs higher, because it is fairly easy to remember them.

If you don't mind us asking which new TLDs have you purchased?

I did buy couple and i don't mind them. Also i believe they will rank better in future, or in other hand they will be much more memorable and popular that way, but ranking wise may not overtake .com or let's see what future will say What do you think about all these new custom domain TLD

Well, no one knows what the future will hold. Maybe a .COM TLD will become unpopular, and people will buy domains that fit into their lifestyle, or one that would have meaning to them on a personal level. I'm waiting for a TLD that has my last name in it so I can grab it up and build a blog/website of some sort. I have had many websites but I never had any website or blog that was about me. I don't think I'm that interesting to have a website about me, however it would be kind of interesting to see if I would have any viewers.

I wonder if there is going to be any TLD that will eventually replace the top 3 TLDs, the top 3 being of course: .COM, .NET, and .ORG. I remember when people said that the .CO will replace the .COM TLD but we all saw what happened, it didn't even do much of anything due to bad rankings on search engines. I'm guessing the search engines will need to reprogram their functions for these TLDs so people can start getting the new TLDs to rank higher.

I know what you mean. Big fishes like Google, ICANN etc. can turn this game upside down very fast, same as we being played with SEO regulations all this years then popular websites were dropping over night and so... This is all about money anyway What do you think about all these new custom domain TLD

A lot of things are about money, and if it is not about money, i'm sure there is money involved!

The first domain I registered was xyz. I registered this domain because it cost me just 88 cents. After I registered this domain, I needed hosting. When I bought the hosting service, I could host upto three websites. Thus I registered to more domains. However, this time I bought dot com. Since the names I wanted were already taken, I had to compromise. Then I began using new extensions like club, online so that I did not have to compromise. There is nothing wrong in having these extensions because search engines treat all domains equally.

This is a very interesting topic. I agree with anwebservices that .com is the best domain extension. I only ever use .com/.org/.net and in the case of country specific websites, country code top level domains. It will be fun to have one of these domains if you want a “fun” website but for a professional and serious website, these domains look so unprofessional. For example, if I see eastlondon.plumber, I won’t really trust it due to the domain but if it was eastlondonplumber.com, then I would have more trust. If I see a professional website using these domains, I will just think it is a troll. Also, I agree that most .com domains are the ones that rank high on Google but that is because those are the domain that people optimised and these domains are still new. I have purchased .xyz domains before but never really use them for any serious projects.

I don't think TLD extensions make much difference in terms of rankings; it is about how much optmisation you do.

I never really understood the .XYZ TLD, like seriously yourwebsite.xyz. I think they ran out of TLDs at the time and someone just said "Hey! I know! Just make a TLD '.XYZ'" and all the ICANN members jumped for joy. I truly wonder what goes on when they discuss new TLDs. Sometimes I often wonder about their mental health regarding some new TLDs.

in the future dot com will no more be the best domain because most of the names that anyone can think of will be taken and more and more people will register domains with other extensions. generally speaking, extensions do not matter in terms of SEO, as long as you have valuable content, keyword optimized and quality backlink, your website will continue to be ranked higher.

I own all sorts of domain extension from dot club to dot online, dot site, dot website etc. If you are creating niche sites, custom domains will be a great help. For example, if your website is about TV programs it is better to have dot tv extension instead of generic domain such as dot com. It helps to get traffic.
