Breaking bad habits

I'm in the habit of staying up late. I have struggled for a long time to break this habit.

And maybe all bad habits are hard to break.

Just want some general advice on how to break bad habits, whether it's staying up late or drinking coffee?

Once you recognize your bad habits, you will want to take concrete steps toward getting rid of them. One easy way to do that is by adopting more healthy and productive habits. For instance, rather than drinking so much caffeine that can keep you awake at night, you might just go for a long walk that will tire you out. Or, read a long book before bed every night to exhaust your mind. These activities will take the place of other less productive habits and help you break the bad habit of staying up late.

Awhile back I was reading the same thing about bad food habits. The book said you don't cut bad foods out of your diet. Just add nutritious foods into your diet and those foods will automatically take the place of the unhealthy foods. After all if you are eating lots of healthy fruits, vegetables and whole grains, you won't be hungry for sweets and sugar foods.

It's the same way with bad habits, just swap out good habits for bad habits. Over time, the good habits will be all you know. Breaking bad habits

There is only one thing you can do to get rid of any bad habit- Break the pattern. Everything starts with a decision to change and doing something about it. Nothing will happen if you do nothing about it. It may be tough, but you need to have the willpower and the dedication to make changes. Once you've realized what you're doing wrong, you need to come up with solutions and ideas to fix it. You may want to stay up late but when you know that you need to change this habit, you just have to do it. Keep a strict rule for yourself and stick to it.

I used to have a bad habit of just binging on foods, I recovered from that through pure determination to get fit. I've lost 22 pounds currently and I'm still losing. The biggest challenge to every addiction is resisting the urge in my opinion. This is where a lot of people fail, and where a lot of people win too. You'll find that in the end, it's all in you and only you can make a big change as long as you take control. Mind over body.

May I share my husband's story? He was a heavy smoker for 3 decades. But he was able to quit smoking just like that. His carton of cigarettes remained at home and a pack remained in the car for 1 month of not smoking before he disposed of the cigarettes and lighters. He was very sure of himself. And there was no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. His means of quitting? On the day he quit, he had difficulty breathing. He talked to God and promised to quit smoking just so he would live longer. Just like that. It looked so easy, isn't it?

The best way to break a bad habit is to start a new one. Also whatever you practice for 21 consecutive days will stick to you and become a habit. And it gets stronger the more you try it, I would suggest you start journaling. Write down your thoughts each night before going to bed. You will be surprised going through the journal that you can identify things that has kept you awake.

It starts with being resilient in breaking such bad habits. I was that type that always takes alcohol, but with time, I started making serious efforts in ensuring that I don't take it at all and that has helped to improve my life to a greater level. So, you need to be mean with forcing sleep into your eyes and see how it works.
