What does this mean: "Non Spyware detected"?

My spyware scanner just came up with a warning, "Non Spyware Detected" and gave the option to quarantine the affected files. What does that mean, 'non spyware' and why would it flag files that are not considered spyware? If not spyware, then what could they be?

Most likely your spyware scanner detected a PUP or potentially unwanted program. Often, the PUP is bundled with another download such as from CNET or a browser toolbar. These are not technically spyware but show many of the same traits as a spyware and can affect your browser behavior such as with browser hijacking and tracking. For that reason, the PUP should be removed from your computer or quarantine.
