    Not using .com

    If I have a domain name that I want and it is not available I know that I can us others such as .org or .net. How many of you on this site have had to use something different other than .com for your domain name?

    I have a couple of websites which are .org or .net Not using .com If it is a really good domain and the .com is taken, then I have no problem with taking different extension. Not using .com Sometimes though, depending on the type of website, even if the .com is available, I will choose .net, .org or whatever is best suited. Not using .com

    I owned a .net site and didn't feel very motivated to do anything with it, though maybe only for a lack of time.

    .net is mainly used when the .com is unavailable. The reason .com is so good is because it is used a ton and because of that, if I only knew the company name and I was trying to find out the website I would guess it would be company.com not company.net because .net is less popular.

    I just wanted the .com version of the site. And, I'm sure nothing was actually wrong with the domain. From what I've read, there is no difference between any of the TLD and they all have the same value to Google search engine. So if you can't get one, get another. Though maybe for the consumer who is trying to remember the TLD, they will assume your site is a .com not a .net or .org. At least, that's the way it is for me.
