Can you use Youtube without Google+ sign up?

I would like to watch and use Youtube without linking my account to Google+. Right now, I just watch Youtube logged out, though I can't make comments or post videos that way. Is it possible to use Youtube without signing up to Google+?

It's not possible to upload videos to Youtube without signing into your Google account. However, you can always watch videos without making comments without being signed in.

It is understandable that you should be logged in before you can be allowed to post a comment. Just like in Facebook, you can roam around but you cannot interact with any post if you are not logged in. The same with Youtube, you need to be logged in with your account. But if you don’t want to use your Youtube account then just create a new one that you can use for commenting.
