Common Facebook scams

What are some common Facebook scams?

For instance, I've seen requests on Facebook featuring a very sick person with requests for donations. Would this be considered a scam? How can you be sure if you donate, your money will go toward a good cause?

Yes to me that is a scam unless they are very sick. But really how do you know? I tend to stay away from all this.

Stuff like this makes me very mad. Do not advertise a good cause and then run and hide with the money that others have donated in good faith.

I remember Brittanny Murphy "official" fanpage, they posted photos with sick people and said in their status "For every like and Share, Facebook will give 1$ for this ill child". I remember seeing that picture years ago and that child was already dead. It's not a scam, but it is a bad way to promote your fanpage. FB should make more action against those bastards.

Yes I agree that FB needs to make it a point and take some action. It is not fair to that child, even if they are no longer with us.

Has anyone seen those ads for facebook games? And tell you to install a toolbar (ad/malware) for game updates/promotions/etc? I believe that's a scam.. installing ad/malware so they can place ads on your sites, etc LOL. But apparently facebook is 'cracking' down on that.. but who really knows with facebook.. I particularly don't like facebook.

The two main reasons why scammers are grateful for Facebook's existence are the fact that they can easily access a great number of people in a short period of time, and the fact that victims often end up "endorsing" the scams and by doing so add an aura of legitimacy to them. FB should crack down on that. It is ridiculous that they can do this or that they are.

I hadn't seen that one before, though I rarely install toolbars for this very reason as most have malware that will infect your computer. Thanks for the heads up though.

People will add you from Facebook game groups and then when you respond to their friend request, you can get hacked because they gain access to your IP address.

What I see as the main problem of scamming in Facebook isthe gullibility of users. They have the propensity to share the post regarding financial assistance to the poor or charity without even validating if the post is genuine. But more dangerous as the investment scams. I was invited to join Money Three, that is the name of the Facebook page where you can invest money and it becomes threefold. It’s really a big stupidity to join such schemes for it’s too good to be true. After earning a few, the investor tends to invest more and that’s the time their earnings will be pending... forever.

I have seen that too but I verify before parting with my hard earned money.I know there are genuine cases but one still has to be careful.The one that is most rampant is one someone you don't know from Adam would send you a private mail of wanting you to get some money from wherever for him or her and you'll be given some percentage.I don't even ask about it for clarification, I just delete it straight away.

I have seen similar activity on numerous occasions on Facebook, but I have not paid much attention to any of them. There is the possibility that some of the requests could have been genuine but I have no means of determining their validity, therefore, I have had to ignore them
